Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, let's have a look at what's on the cards. The forecast starts a bit slow, so we've got a few days of small, marginal swell before anything really gets going. Most of the action is at PKs, a reef break that's a beginner-friendly spot and fairly consistent, so it'll be worth checking even when the numbers aren't huge. Crowds can show up there sometimes, keep that in mind.
The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing weird going on there.
Alright, let's walk through it. We kick off on Friday, the 3rd of July, with tiny little 2ft to 2ft SSW swell. The period is a super long 17 seconds, which is a proper groundswell – great for shape and energy, but can make it break a bit straight on a beach. It's a reef here, so that long period should help it peel nicely. The wind is a cross-off at 16 mph, not perfect but workable, and the combined energy is weak at first (273), bumping to moderate (304) later. It's really marginal though, barely worth a paddle.
Into Saturday the 4th, the swell builds a touch to 2ft to 3ft from the S, period still very long at 20 to 21 seconds. Combined energy gets solidly moderate (634 on Saturday morning). Still the same cross-off wind around 16 mph. The wave comment says “marginal surf forecast” all day, so it's still a bit iffy for quality.
Sunday the 5th is more of the same – 3ft to 3ft SSW swell, 18-second period, moderate energy in the 500s. Wind stays cross-off. Not firing.
Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th start to drop off a bit. Swell stays around 3ft but the period shortens to 15 or 14 seconds. The combined energy dips, and the wind picks up to a fresh breeze at 19 mph. The forecast calls it “poor surf conditions.” This is a stretch to get excited about.
Now, Wednesday the 8th of July is where it gets a little interesting. The morning is still poor, but the afternoon throws up a 6ft swell from the E with a short, choppy 8-second period. The combined energy jumps up to 554 (moderate). That 8-second period is not going to give you any quality – it'll be a bit of a mess, and 6ft is getting too big for beginners. The wind is still cross-off at 16 mph. The comment says “marginal” for tide reasons, so it's a maybe, not a yes.
After that, from Thursday the 9th through to about Saturday the 11th, we're back down to tiny 2ft to 2ft S and SW swells with periods bouncing between 11 and 18 seconds. Combined energy is weak, generally under 300. The comments are all “poor surf conditions” or “marginal.” Sunday the 12th is similar, with 2ft SW swell, 16-second period, still under cross-off wind.
Then from Monday the 13th of July onward, there's a consistent run of 2ft to 3ft swells, mostly from the W and SSW, with periods of 14 to 17 seconds. The combined energy starts to nudge up into moderate territory (523 to 762 on Tuesday the 14th morning). The wind stays a steady cross-off at 16 to 19 mph. It's still described as “marginal” or “poor,” but the energy is there. The clean surface from the cross-off wind will help the shape.
The best bet in this whole stretch is likely the morning of Tuesday the 14th. You've got 3ft W swell with a 16-second period, and the combined energy hits 762 – that's the highest all forecast. The wind is a fresh breeze cross-off, so it'll be clean and have some push. It's still marginal-sounding, but that energy and period combo suggests there'll be some decent runners on the reef.
Later on, Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th stay very similar – 3ft W and SW swells, 14 to 16-second periods, moderate energy in the 500s, cross-off wind. The Thursday morning even gets a 2 out of 10 score, which is the highest you'll see in this window. Still small, but consistent and clean.
For the last few days, Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th, it's back to 2ft to 3ft SSW swells with lower energy. The wind stays cross-off at 12 to 16 mph. Nothing to write home about.
So, the standout? It's got to be Tuesday the 14th of July morning at PKs. The 3ft W swell, 16-second period, cross-off wind, and the highest combined energy (762) in the whole outlook make it the only real session to pencil in. It'll be clean, have some grunt for a small reef break, and the crowds won't be too mental if you pick your tide right. The rest is just small, marginal fun for the patient surfer.
