The Lowdown

Alright, let's be straight with you. The surf is completely dead for the next two and a half weeks. I'm looking at the charts for Oshawa and there is just nothing out there. Not a single decent pulse on the horizon for the entire 16-day window. It's a total blank.

We've got a lot of clean, glassy mornings, sure, but it's all flat. You'd be better off checking the lake for a water skier than a surfer. The water temp is sitting at 69°, which is about average for this time of year, so it's not a matter of a cold snap keeping the swell away. There's just no energy at all. The combined energy readings are all coming in at zero. It's a dead ocean.

The first week is all light winds and clean conditions, but with zero swell, that just means it's a good week to fix your dings or go for a paddle. There are a few afternoons with a bit more breeze, but it doesn't matter when there are no waves to mess up.

The second week, starting around the 18th, the wind goes onshore from the east, and it gets a bit choppy, but again, there's nothing for it to chop up. It's just a flat, messy lake. The last few days, the wind swings offshore again, but we're still looking at nothing.

Honestly, this is one of those stretches where you just have to accept it. The break is fairly consistent in general, so it won't stay poor for long. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but as it stands, there's not a single wave worth your time. I'm not even going to pick a standout because there is nothing to stand out. I'll be back when there's something to talk about.

Rusty.
