The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming our way for Margate Pier over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a lean stretch. We're looking at a pretty long dry spell before anything even remotely worth paddling out for shows up. From now, through the rest of August and into the first few days of September, it's basically a write-off. Tiny waves, poor conditions, and a whole lot of "don't bother" energy. The water's sitting at a very unusual 79° – that's much warmer than normal for this time of year, which is nice for a swim, but the surf just isn't there.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn't come until Thursday the 4th of September. The morning at Margate Pier shows a glassy start with a light offshore from the northwest. We're only talking about a small 1ft swell from the ESE with a combined energy of 57 – that's weak, no two ways about it. But the wind is clean, offshore, and it'll be glassy. It's a session for a longboard or a foamie, not a proper wave, but it'll be the best we've seen in a while.
Later on the 4th, the afternoon stays clean with a gentle offshore from the WNW, but the swell drops even smaller at 2ft from the S. Still, with the wind off the land, you could get a few tiny, clean walls if you're keen.
After that, it fades right back out. The rest of the forecast into the second week is more of the same – small, weak, and mostly onshore or messy. Nothing stands out as a proper session.
So, the one standout? It's got to be Thursday morning the 4th of September. It's not big, not powerful, but with glassy conditions and a light offshore, it's your best bet for a clean, peaceful paddle. The break is very consistent here, so even with small swell, you'll likely find something to ride. Just don't expect any barrels – this is strictly small-wave cruising.
Rusty.
