Table - best surf conditions forecast for Margate Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for Margate Pier over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch. The entire 16-day window is a mixed bag of tiny, weak waves and poor conditions. We're looking at a long dry spell with no real standout surf. The first real, albeit ordinary, pulse of energy doesn't show up until Monday the 20th of July, and even then it's not a winner.
Here's the rundown. Starting now, it's a whole lot of nothing. Through the end of this week and into the next, the swell is tiny, mostly under 2 ft, with lousy period and weak energy (often in the 20s and 30s). The wind is all over the place, often cross or onshore, keeping things choppy and messy. There's a brief moment on Saturday the 11th afternoon with some glassy conditions, but on a 1 ft swell with only 29 energy, it's not worth paddling out. You'd be bobbing around more than surfing.
The pattern continues through the second week. The swell tries to pick up a little around the 14th of July, with the combined energy hitting 133, but it's still a cross-onshore mess with a 3 ft wave from the ESE. Not good.
Finally, on Monday morning the 20th of July, we see the best opportunity of the entire forecast. The swell hangs around 5 ft from the S with a clean, light offshore wind from the NNW. The energy is moderate at 130, and the water temp is about average for this time of year. It's surfable, but the conditions are still described as "very ordinary." It's a small window, and it's blown out by the afternoon when the wind turns cross-on and the swell jumps to 5 ft, pushing it into the "too big for beginners" territory and wrecking the surface.
The rest of the 20th and into the 21st and 22nd is just more of the same: small, messy, cross-onshore junk. Honestly, if you're desperate for a paddle, Monday morning the 20th is your only real shot, but don't expect anything special. This is a lean period. The one saving grace is that Margate Pier is very consistent, so it'll come back around. But for now, keep the board in the car and wait for the next proper swell.
Rusty.
