Table - best surf conditions forecast for Margate Pier over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Margate Pier are looking pretty grim. There’s a big stretch of days coming up with hardly anything worth paddling out for.
We’ve got a dry spell from Friday the 10th of July right through until early Tuesday the 21st of July. That’s nearly a week and a half of flat, weak dribble. The waves are tiny, mostly under 3ft, with the odd pulse barely reaching 3ft. The wind’s all over the shop, usually cross-shore or onshore, and most of the sessions are rated as poor. The water’s sitting at a warm 76°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – over 4°F warmer, so you won’t need a wetsuit, but you will need a lot of patience.
Now, the only real glimmer in this whole outlook is Tuesday morning the 21st of July. We’ve got a bit of a pulse building. Margate Pier (beach/pier) will see some chest-high swell, around 4ft, coming from the ESE. The combined energy is moderate at 283, so there’s a bit of grunt in the water. The wind will be light from the NNW, blowing cross-offshore, which should keep the surface clean. The swell period is short at 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and won’t have the power of a proper groundswell, but it’s the best on offer. This spot is very consistent and exposed to the swell, so it’ll be breaking. Crowds are possible. Don’t expect perfection, but if you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your window.
After that, Wednesday the 22nd through to Saturday the 25th sees us back into poor surf with small, weak swell and onshore or cross-shore winds. The water temperature anomaly isn’t recorded for those days, but by the end of the run, on Saturday afternoon the 25th, we get a slight flicker: 2ft from the SSE with a WNW offshore breeze, making for clean faces, but it’s barely surfable.
So, the honest truth? It’s a long quiet period. The only standout is Tuesday morning the 21st. Don’t hold your breath for the rest.
Rusty.
