Table - best surf conditions forecast for Margate Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, let’s take a look at the outlook for our local zone. I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s a tough stretch ahead. For the next 16 days, Margate Pier is the only game in town, and it’s not exactly firing. In fact, we’ve got a proper flat spell to start. The first real sniff of anything surfable doesn't show up until Sunday the 19th of July. That’s a solid six-day gap with barely a ripple to ride. Hang in there.
So, for that Sunday morning, we finally get a bit of hope. The swell’s a tiny 3ft from the SSE with a period of 6 seconds – short period wind swell, not much grunt. The combined energy is still weak at 63. But here’s the thing: the wind is swinging WSW, which is a cross-offshore breeze at Margate Pier. That means the surface will be clean, glassy even. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing freaky going on. It’s not going to be pumping, but for an intermediate session on a longboard or a foamie, you’ll find a few grovelly shoulders. The break faces the SE, so that SSE swell gets in there.
If you can only pick one window, that Sunday the 19th morning is the standout, and it’s really the only stand-out in the whole run. After that, we see a few other mornings with clean conditions – like Wednesday the 22nd morning, which is dead glassy with WNW winds – but the swell drops right back to 2ft. All the other days are a write-off with onshore chop or just flat-out tiny. The later part of the second week into the 28th looks pretty hopeless.
So, bottom line: 19th July morning is your best bet. Tiny, clean, and all yours because no one else will be out there thinking it’s worth it. Crowds are only ‘sometimes’ a problem here, so you’ll have it quiet. It’s honestly more of a paddle and a tan than a proper surf. If you’re a beginner, it’s perfect. Experts, you might want to take up golf this week.
