Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here, and I've been staring at the Margate Pier forecast. Let me tell you, it's a bit of a bummer for us paddle surfers over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we don't have any real surf on offer today, Tuesday the 7th. The waves are small and the wind is a messy cross-shore, making for poor conditions. That sets the tone for the next several days.
Honestly, looking at this stretch, there’s a big gap of surf that’s just not worth paddling out for. We're talking from today, Tuesday the 7th, right through to Friday the 10th morning. That's days of weak, choppy, and cross-onshore junk. The swell energy is pathetic, staying below 70 (weak energy), with a tiny 1 ft to 3 ft of short-period chop. You'd be fighting an onshore breeze for nothing.
There is a slight flicker of hope late Friday afternoon, the 10th of July. The wind turns offshore from the NNW, cleaning things right up. The swell is tiny at 2 ft from the south, with a short 7-second period, but the combined energy is still a weak 68. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The good news is the water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
From there, it's back into the wilderness. We get small, weak swells with cross or onshore winds all through the weekend and into the next week. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are a write-off with strong onshore winds and even a risk of some rain. The energy readings are pathetic, often in the teens or low 30s. For a spot that’s very consistent, this is a poor run.
We do get a few clean moments with offshore winds on Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th, but the swell is barely a ripple at 1 ft to 1 ft. You'd be floating around more than surfing.
The only other period that catches my eye is around Thursday the 16th. Nothing special, really, but the swell bumps up to 3 ft from the ENE with a moderate cross-shore wind and a combined energy of 58. Not great, not terrible. The winds do clean up a bit into Friday the 17th, but the swell drops away again.
Then we jump ahead to Tuesday the 21st of July. We get a bit more energy, with a 3 ft swell from the ESE. The combined energy ticks up to 107 (moderate), but the wind is a messy cross-onshore, so it’ll be choppy. That’s about as close to a highlight as this forecast gets, and even that’s a stretch. That’s two full weeks of mediocrity for Margate Pier. For an exposed spot, this is a seriously flat and messy run.
Rusty.
