Table - best surf conditions forecast for Margate Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. Rusty here, looking at the next couple of weeks for Margate.
Right off the bat, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next week or so is pretty grim. We’re looking at a long, quiet spell with barely a ripple worth paddling for. The water is sitting at a warm 76°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only thing that’s firing.
From Sunday the 12th right through to Friday the 18th, it’s a write-off. Tiny, weak swell, mostly onshore or cross-shore winds, and the wave energy is bottomed out. You’re looking at combined energies in the 30s and 40s (44), which is just weak. Not worth getting wet for.
Finally, there’s a flicker of hope on Sunday the 19th of July. The morning session at Margate Pier sees a bump in swell to 5ft from the ENE, with a clean cross-offshore breeze from the WSW. The wave energy jumps to 218, which is moderate, and the conditions look clean. It’s not a massive standout, but it’s the best of a quiet run. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it’s windswell, not groundswell, but it’ll be rideable for the intermediate crew. Keep in mind, this spot can get busy, so expect some crowds.
Monday the 20th still has some size – 4ft in the morning – but the wind is a bit more tricky, and the energy is similar (226). It’s a marginal call.
After that, the swell drops off again into the 20s and 30s (energy) until we get to Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th. Saturday the 25th morning has a 5ft south swell with clean cross-off winds, but the energy is moderate (323). Sunday the 26th afternoon sees a bigger 5ft south swell with a bit more grunt (427), but it’s still just a marginal call. The period is short (8 seconds), so it’s not going to be a thing of beauty.
If you’re desperate, aim for the morning of the 19th. Otherwise, it’s a long wait for anything decent.
Rusty.
