Right then. Rusty here. Look, I’m gonna level with ya. The next 16 days for Margate Pier are lookin’ pretty grim. The finder doesn't show a single decent session, so what we’ve got is a long stretch of flat to small, messy junk. We’re basically looking at a gap of about 10 days from now (Saturday the 11th) until Tuesday the 21st where you wouldn’t even bother paddling out.

The first note of any kind of surfable wave doesn’t show up until Tuesday the 21st. The morning is glassy with the swell coming from the ENE at 3ft, but the combined energy is only moderate at 122. The period is a short 7 seconds, so it’ll be weak and a bit gutless. The wind is calm, so it’ll be clean, but it’s not gonna get the heart racing. That same afternoon stays glassy with a 3ft ENE swell, but again, it’s small and ordinary.

Then it falls apart again. Wednesday the 22nd is a write-off with strong cross-shore winds. By Thursday the 23rd, we see a bump in size with an E swell hitting 6ft and the energy jumping to a strong 263, but the onshore wind from the ENE is gonna chop it all up. That kind of size and messy wind makes it a challenge for anyone but the experienced. The period is still a short 7 seconds, so no real power behind it.

The real kicker comes on Saturday the 25th. The combined energy is a very strong 489 with a 4ft SE swell and a 9-second period, which is fair. But again, the wind is howling cross-shore from the NE at 16 mph, making a lumpy mess. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.

Honestly, for this stretch, it’s a bust. For a break that’s this exposed, we’re missing the right wind and swell combo. The setup with these strong, messy winds and solid swell would actually be more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer right now.

Keep an eye on it, but the forecast isn’t giving us anything to get excited about.

Rusty.
