Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Margate Pier.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with ya – this is a tough stretch. We’re lookin’ at a long, quiet run here. The next few days are flat as a pancake, with nothing worth wettin’ a wetsuit for. We’ve got a real dry spell from Wednesday, July 8th all the way through to Saturday, July 19th. That’s nearly two weeks where the swell just ain’t showin’ up. The small, weak waves we see are mostly poor quality and the wind is all wrong. The water temp right now is 77°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like bathwater out there, but with no surf to enjoy it in.
Things finally get a pulse around Sunday, July 19th afternoon. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the S, but it’s a messy cross-onshore wind messin’ it up. The energy is still weak (101). Monday the 20th might be our only real chance. The morning sees a 4ft SE swell with a longer period of 9 seconds, combin’ for a moderate 232 energy reading. That’s the biggest push of the whole forecast. But look – it’s light cross-onshore wind, which is okay but not perfect. The water temp anomaly is back to average by then. This one is not for beginners – that 4ft is gettin’ close to the big stuff for a learner.
Honestly, if you’re jonesin’ to paddle out, Monday the 20th has the most going for it. The swell direction aligns with the optimum from the SE, and the wind is light. The rest of the period after that drops back down into small, weak junk with onshore slop. It’s a long wait for a brief moment of hope.
Rusty, out.
