Table - best surf conditions forecast for Linda Mar over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here, with a look at what Linda Mar’s got cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Overall, it’s a pretty frustrating stretch ahead. We're looking at a run of persistent cross-onshore winds that are going to mess with the surface most days. The energy will be there at times, but clean waves are going to be hard to come by. Honestly, there’s no true standout session in the whole 16 days; it’s a grind of marginal, choppy surf.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
Right now, the best we can say is Wednesday morning, July 8th, has some swell. We’re looking at a 3ft swell from the SW with a very long 17-second period. That long period groundswell carries decent energy (1008), but the wind is a cross-on at 9 mph, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. It’s only a 2 out of 10 kind of session, and the tide might be wonky. That's about as good as it gets for the first few days.
Thursday morning, July 9th, brings a bigger pulse of 8ft from the WNW. The period drops to a short 9 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly and disorganised. The energy is high (1198), but again, the wind is cross-on. This size is pushing it for learners.
The pattern just keeps repeating. Mornings offer a glimmer of hope with a marginal forecast, but then the afternoons get wrecked by stronger winds. We see this right through until the end of the second week.
Around July 15th and 16th, we see another bump in size, with 8ft on the Thursday morning (July 16th). The energy is solid (1366), but with a short 9-second period and cross-on winds, it's going to be a lumpy, powerful mess. At over 8ft, this is expert territory only, and the wind will make it a battle.
By the weekend of July 19th, the swell drops right off to 2ft from the SW with a very long 17-18 second period. The energy is low (681-713), and the winds are lighter, so it might be your only chance for a clean, small wave on a longboard. It’s not going to be any kind of highlight, just a small, slow, pretty session.
A little bump shows up for the final few mornings, like July 20th and 21st, with 5-6ft from the NW and light winds. The energy is moderate (around 534-439), but the period is short at 8-9 seconds. The light cross-on wind will still leave some ripple. It's better than nothing, but not worth getting excited about.
In short, there are no epic days on the cards. If you have to paddle out, aim for a morning with the lightest wind and the smallest swell to keep it manageable. This kind of blank run is pretty normal for the area; it tends not to stay poor for too long, but the forecasts will need to change a lot to give us something good.
Rusty, signing out.
