Alright, let me tell ya how it’s lookin’ out there.
Straight up, Laniakea Reef and Holtons is in a bit of a slump. For the first solid week, it’s gonna be pretty flat and weak. The water temp is sittin’ at a warm 79°, which is about normal for this time of year, but that’s where the good news ends. From Friday the 3rd through to Thursday the 9th, you’re lookin’ at tiny, weak swell – mostly around 0.3ft to 2ft – with a combined swell energy that barely gets into double digits (48 is the highest early on). The wind is a persistent cross-off from the ENE at 12 to 19 mph, which keeps the surface clean, but there’s just no power behind it. It’s poor conditions, no doubt.
There’s a glimmer of something on Saturday the 11th morning. We get a pulse of 4ft swell from the NNE, but the period is a short 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 237 – that’s moderate energy. Still, the waves are gonna be a bit messy, and it’s only rated as marginal. The wind stays cross-off at 16 mph, so it’s clean, but it’s not gonna be any kind of standout.
Now, let’s talk about the best bet in this whole 16-day window. That’s Tuesday the 14th. We get a nice long-period groundswell – 2ft from the W with a 16-second period. That’s a proper long period, and for a reef break like Laniakea, that’s gonna mean some nice, lined-up waves with good shape. The combined energy is solid at 379 to 419, so there’s decent power in the water. With a gentle breeze from the ENE at 9 mph, it’ll be offshore and super clean. This is the one to circle on the calendar – it’s the only time the “expect good surf conditions” tag shows up. Wednesday the 15th afternoon looks similar, with 2ft and a 15-second period (energy 276), also with good surf conditions, so it might hold for a bit.
After that, it fades off again through the rest of the second week, droppin’ back to tiny 1ft and 2ft swell with weak energy. The wind stays cross-off, keepin’ it clean, but there’s just no real push.
So, what’s the call? Honestly, it’s a long wait for that Tuesday the 14th. The first week is a write-off. Keep your eyes on that day for a few clean, lined-up sets on the reef. It’s not gonna be huge, but for Laniakea, that’s your window.
Rusty.
