Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s kick it off.
Honestly, looking at the whole 16-day picture for Laniakea Reef and Holtons, it’s a proper waiting game. We’re starting with a whole lot of nothing. The first week is basically flat with tiny, weak swell and cross-off winds that, while clean, just aren’t pushing any real surf. You’re looking at barely a ripple—swell heights of just 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft.
We finally get something to paddle for around Sunday the 12th of July. The swell starts to show a little life, bumping up to 2 ft from the SW with a long 16-second period. The combined wave energy hits 154 (moderate), which is a bit of a jump. It’s still tiny by any standard, but that longer period means the lines will have some shape to them. The wind is a steady cross-off from the ENE, keeping the surface clean.
Monday the 13th is similar, with the energy starting to build. The afternoon sees it push to 1 ft from the W, and the combined energy jumps to 228 (moderate). It’s still not a big swell, but for a spot like this that’s been dead quiet, it’s something to check out. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
Then Tuesday the 14th is where it starts to get a little interesting. We’re seeing 2 ft to 2 ft from the W, with the energy staying solid around 277. Still a cross-off breeze, clean faces. The wave comment shifts from “poor” to “marginal,” so if you’re desperate and have your log, this is your window. The crowd factor is “sometimes” here, so you might have a few friends out.
After that, the swell slowly winds down through the end of that week and into the next. We don’t see a single standout session in the whole run. The biggest day is still only 2 ft, and while the period stays decent, it’s never powerful enough to really open up the reef properly. By Monday the 20th, it goes completely flat with no recorded swell for two full days.
There’s a tiny blip on Wednesday the 22nd with a 1.0 ft SW swell, but it’s not worth getting excited about. So, the long story short for this 16-day stretch: if you’ve got a longboard and the patience of a saint, you might find a few clean crumbly lines between Sunday the 12th and Wednesday the 15th. But there’s no big swell, no clear standout. Just a slow, flat week leading into a few small, clean days.
Rusty out.
