Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Jolla Shores over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s cookin’ for La Jolla Shores over the next couple of weeks.
Gotta be straight with you – for the first week and a half, it’s a proper flat spell. We’re talkin’ from Wednesday, July 8th all the way through to Saturday, July 18th, the surf is gonna be a real struggle. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1ft to 4ft, and the wind is just never on our side – it’s either cross or onshore, keeping things messy. The wave energy is weak (starts at 984 and just drops from there), and the period is around 14-16 seconds, but there just isn’t enough push. The water is a warm 70°F with a big anomaly of 4°F – that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, which is a nice touch for a paddle, but the waves ain’t gonna cooperate. For a beginner spot like this, it’s just a week of flat, blown-out nothing.
Now, the real standout is Sunday, July 19th. That morning, we finally see a pulse of life. Swell jumps to 7ft from the S, with a period of 15 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell. The energy rockets up to 2614 – that’s strong energy. The wind is light from the W, so it’s cross-on, but it’ll be glassy enough to make it work. The problem is, 7ft is getting big for this break, and it’s a fairly exposed beach, so it’s really only for the experienced crew. The jury’s out until the day, but it’s the only real window of hope in the whole run.
After that, Monday the 20th drops back to 4ft, and the energy drops to 823 (moderate), and the wind goes cross-on again. It’s a cleanup, but nothing special. The rest of the week into July 23rd is just more of the same marginal stuff – a few pulses of 4ft to 6ft, but the wind is always a bit off, and the energy is only moderate. It’s a long, quiet stretch for La Jolla Shores.
Rusty, signing off.
