The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Guarau’s got cooking for us over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but there are a couple of windows where it’ll be worth wetting the wetsuit.
The water is sitting at 70°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a nice little bonus.
Right out of the gate, Tuesday morning (15th September) is a bit of a flat start. We’re looking at tiny 2ft south swell, and while the wind is a light cross-off, the combined energy is weak at 125. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. Honestly, it’s not worth rushing for.
Things get a bit more interesting on Wednesday morning (16th). We’ve got a 2ft swell from the SSE, but the period bumps up to a nice 12 seconds, giving it some real push. The combined energy is moderate at 197, and the wind is dead glass. That’s a recipe for some clean, fun little waves, even if they’re on the smaller side.
The first real standout window looks to be Friday morning (18th September). We see a jump in size to 4ft from the ESE. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it’s windswell, but with glassy conditions and combined energy at 260 (moderate), it’s clean and should offer some playful little walls. That’s your best bet for the first week.
We’ve got a bit of a lull in quality after that. Saturday and Sunday are messy with cross-shore winds, so keep your expectations in check.
Now, peeking into the end of the forecast period, Tuesday the 29th of September has some serious energy in the water. We’ve got a 4ft swell from the SSE with a very long period of 14 seconds. The combined energy is a whopping 767 (strong). However, the wind is a gentle cross-onshore, making it choppy and rating it as poor surf conditions. That long period groundswell needs a point break or reef to really shine, and with those onshore vibes, it’s a frustrating one to watch.
The true standout, and the one to circle on the calendar, is Wednesday morning, the 30th of September. After that big energy pulse, the swell drops back to a clean 2ft from the SSE, but it’s still rocking a very long 13-second period. The magic ingredient is the light cross-off wind from the NNE. Combined with a clear sky and a combined energy of 288 (moderate), that river mouth should be absolutely clean and lined up with some beautiful, long-running waves. It won’t be huge, but the quality will be top-notch. This is the pick of the bunch.
Crowds can be a thing here sometimes, so don’t expect to have it to yourself, especially on a day like that.
