The Lowdown
Grab your board, but maybe don't rush just yet. The next couple of weeks are a real mixed bag at Cibratel. The water's sitting at a toasty 69°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so you'll be comfortable in a shorty or just boardies. We've got a long stretch of hardly anything to get excited about, but it does eventually show some promise.
Right now, we're looking at a flat spell. From Wednesday the 19th right through the rest of August, the surf is mostly poor. There's a brief flicker of life on the 22nd with a marginal SSE swell at 3 ft and a 10-second period, but the onshore wind and rain showers ruin it. The real story is a big gap in quality surf. The week leading into September is also pretty quiet, with light winds and small, weak swells. The combined energy is mostly in the weak range, with a few moderate spikes, but that's just ugly, choppy, onshore slop. Not worth paddling out for.
Now, let's talk about the light at the end of the tunnel. The standout is finally here. On Tuesday, the 25th of August, the morning is looking like the pick of the entire forecast. We've got a glassy 3 ft SSE groundswell rolling in with a nice 13-second period, and the combined energy is a solid moderate. The wind is dead calm, which means it'll be clean. This is a bigger swell, so it's more for the experienced crew, but the conditions will be worth it.
A couple of days later, on Thursday, the 27th of August, the morning shows a light offshore wind from the north with a cross-off breeze, making for clean conditions even though the swell is tiny at 1 ft. By the afternoon, the wind swings to a light offshore from the NW, keeping it clean. It's small, but it's rideable.
Then jump ahead to Thursday, the 3rd of September. The morning and afternoon both look fantastic. We're looking at 3 ft of SSE groundswell, again with that solid 13-second period. The wind is glassy, and the combined energy is moderate. Conditions are ripe for a good session. This one's a bit further out, so keep an eye on the forecast, but it's promising.
So, to sum it up: don't waste your time on the flat, choppy days. Aim for the 25th of August morning for the best chance of a decent wave, and then circle the 3rd of September as a potential hidden gem. Stay patient.
