The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the Cibratel region over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, don't get too excited. We’ve got a bit of a slow start. The first few days are pretty small and ordinary. The real standout window is shaping up for the morning of Wednesday, July 16th, and again on Thursday, July 17th. Those are the days to circle.
Cibratel is the only break in the running here. It’s a very consistent spot, which is a good thing because it’s also exposed to the swell and the optimum direction is from the SE. The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is pretty average for this time of year, so a wetsuit top might be all you need.
The real gem is Wednesday, July 16th, morning. We’ve got a clean 4ft SE swell with a 10-second period. The wind is glassy from the NNE – absolutely perfect conditions. The wave energy is moderate (305), but it’ll be clean as a whistle. That’s your best chance for some proper logging or a grovel session on a longboard.
Thursday, July 17th, morning is also looking tidy. A touch smaller at 3ft from the SE, but the wind is a light cross-offshore from the NNW, keeping the face clean. The energy is moderate (294) and the conditions are described as “clean.” A solid session on the cards.
After that, the swell drops off significantly. From Saturday, July 19th all the way through to Wednesday, July 23rd, we're looking at tiny, weak surf. Most mornings will be clean but barely breaking. The energy dips into the double digits and even the thirties – that's weak, weak stuff. You’re essentially looking at ankle-biters. The wind stays okay, but there’s just no power.
Then, a bit of a pulse arrives around Wednesday, July 23rd, morning. The swell picks up to 3ft from the SSE, but the period jumps to 13 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell. The energy is back up to 377, which is moderate. The wind is light cross-shore from the SW. It’s a bit of a gamble, because longer-period swells like that can be a bit straight at a beach break, but if there’s a sandbank, it could hold. The conditions are listed as marginal, so keep your expectations low.
The next real highlight doesn’t come until Wednesday, July 29th, morning. Another clean pulse: 4ft from the SSE, 9-second period, and glassy wind from the NW. The energy is at 226 – moderate. That’s a solid, clean morning for a cruise. The afternoon gets cross-onshore and messy, so get out early.
If any of the bigger, choppier afternoons like Wednesday, July 22nd (22 July) roll in with 4ft and a moderate cross-onshore wind, that setup might be more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. Not much else to say for that.
So, to sum it up: Your best windows are the mornings of Wednesday, July 16th and Thursday, July 17th – clean, glassy, and fun. The second week has a couple of promising but less certain pulses, especially July 23rd and July 29th, but the weather gods need to play ball. Keep an eye on the sky.
Rusty.
