The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cooking over the next couple of weeks at Cibratel. This is an exposed, very consistent beginner-friendly spot, and it’s getting a consistent feed of small, clean surf for the first few days. The standout session is Wednesday morning the 15th, with clean 4ft SE swell and glassy conditions. Water temp is 66°, which is about average for this time of year.
The run kicks off Wednesday morning the 15th – crystal clear skies, a light N wind at 3 mph, making it glassy. The SE swell is 4ft with a short period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate at 228. A real treat for the learner crew.
Thursday morning the 16th is more of the same – 3ft SE swell, glassy with no wind at all. Combined energy is 210. Another golden window for clean, small waves.
Friday morning the 17th offers 3ft ESE swell with a light cross-offshore NNW breeze at 3 mph. It’s clean and workable. The afternoon turns a bit cross-on, so the morning is the pick.
Saturday the 18th picks up a little more push in the afternoon – 4ft E swell, period 8 seconds, with a light cross-offshore breeze and combined energy of 268. That’s the most energetic of the first few days.
From Sunday the 19th through to Wednesday the 23rd, the surf drops right off. We’re looking at 2ft down to 1ft swell, mostly clean but tiny. There’s a gap with no real recommendation here – several days of very ordinary, barely surfable conditions.
There’s a slight tease on Thursday the 23rd morning with 1ft SSE swell and a period of 11 seconds, glassy winds and combined energy of 54. Still small, but the longer period gives a bit more shape. Then it drifts back into poor conditions through the 24th and 25th.
Now, things get interesting but messy on Sunday the 26th. A 7ft S swell arrives, period 9 seconds, combined energy strong at 966. That’s a serious bump, but the wind is a moderate 12 mph cross-on from the SSW, making it choppy. The conditions are poor, so the size is only for experienced folks and even then, it’s a battle with the wind. Monday the 27th is similar with 4ft to 4ft SSE swell, but still cross-on wind and rain, so not worth paddling out for.
Through the 28th, the swell sticks around but it’s same story – onshore winds and messy. On Tuesday the 30th, we see a 3ft ESE swell with an 8-second period and combined energy of 158, but it’s still not great. The period bounces up to 18 seconds on the afternoon of the 30th, but the swell is only 1ft and the direction is onshore, so it’s a non-starter.
Best on offer: Wednesday morning the 15th and Thursday morning the 16th are your best bets – small, clean, glassy, and perfect for beginners. Saturday afternoon the 18th is worth a look for a bit more energy. The bigger stuff at the end of the run is too wind-affected.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
