Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get stuck into what’s cooking at Cibratel over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag on the cards. The week starting Sunday, 5th July kicks off with some small, clean options, but things get a bit ordinary mid-week before a nice little spike in energy arrives around Sunday, 12th July. Then there's a lull, but the end of the window on Saturday, 19th July looks like a proper standout.
Let's start with the best on offer. The standout session is hands down Sunday morning, 19th July. Cibratel is expecting clean surf with a light 6 mph cross-offshore breeze from the North, keeping the lines tidy. You're looking at a nice 2 ft SSE swell, and the combined wave energy is a solid moderate reading (230). The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so no worries there. With the break being very consistent and exposed to swell, it should be firing right on the money for the morning.
Before that, the early part of the week has some fun, small windows. Sunday morning, 5th July, is a good call for a beginner or anyone wanting a gentle paddle. Glassy conditions - 3 mph from the South, dead calm water - with a 4 ft SSE swell at 12 seconds. That combined energy is a moderate 357. It’s small but super clean. Monday morning, 6th July is similar with 3 ft SSE and glassy offshore winds from the North; energy is 238. Still small, but if you’re looking for a clean slide, that’s your ticket.
After Tuesday, 7th July the winds get messy with cross-onshore breezes and the swell drops right off. Combined energy plummets into the weak zone (down to 44 on Friday, 10th July). Expect very small, poor conditions through the middle of the week.
We get a resurgence on Sunday morning, 12th July. Glassy conditions again, 2 ft SSE swell but with a much longer 13-second period. The combined energy jumps to 342, which is a decent moderate push. This long period groundswell will want an open face, and at a beach break like Cibratel, it could be a bit straight, but it’ll be clean. Worth a look.
After that, the surf drops off again through Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th. Very small, with combined energy between 119 and 46. There's not much to get excited about until we hit that Saturday morning, 18th July, when 2 ft SSE shows up with 13-second period (183 energy) and glassy winds from the NE. It’s surfable but not the standout.
Then we have the big finale. Sunday afternoon, 19th July, watch out – the swell jumps to 7 ft from the south, but it’s on a short 8-second period and the wind swings to a cross-onshore 9 mph from the SSW. Combined energy is a very strong 997. That’s a lot of junk moving around. For paddle surfing, it’s a write-off. With that kind of wind and a beach setup, honestly, it looks more like a kite day than a surf session. Sunday morning is still the pick of the whole run.
Monday morning, 20th July, we get a final pulse of 4 ft SSE with a super long 16-second period. The energy reading is high (669) but the winds are onshore and light - marginal tide conditions likely. It’s one for the experts to sniff out, but not the cleanest option.
So, to sum it up: your absolute best window to get wet is Sunday morning, 19th July. Get it early before the wind turns. For clean, small waves for a beginner, the mornings of Sunday 5th and Monday 6th July are just about perfect.
Rusty.
