The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break it down. For the next week and a half, Cibratel is the only spot on the radar, and it’s a consistent beginner-plus break that’s exposed to the swell. Water temp is running about 21°, a little warmer than usual for this time of year, so that’s a nice touch.
The first couple of days, Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd, are poor. Small, choppy, onshore wind and weak wave energy in the 167 to 298 range. Nothing doing.
Monday the 24th sees the swell bump up to 1.3m from the SSE with a 14-second period. Combined energy hits 640, which is solid. But the wind is onshore, so it’s messy.
Now, Tuesday the 25th is the first real standout. Early morning is glassy, flat calm, with the swell holding at 1.3m from the SSE, 14 seconds. Combined energy is 633. That’s clean, lined-up surf with that long-period groundswell energy. It’s going to be good.
Wednesday the 26th is even better. Morning is glassy again, with the swell at 1.3m from the SSE and the period stretching to 16 seconds – that’s a very long groundswell. Combined energy is 903, which is strong. The sets will be a bit spread out, but the waves will be clean and powerful. That’s the best session of the whole run.
After that, it fades fast. Thursday 27th drops off, and by Friday the 28th we’re down to 0.5m to 0.8m with short periods. The rest of the run through the start of September is mostly flat and weak. There’s a small clean window on Thursday 3rd September, with a 1.2m swell from the south and offshore wind, but it’s only 8 seconds, so it’s average. Then on Sunday 6th September, another glassy morning with 1.4m from the ESE, but again the period is short at 7 seconds.
Bottom line: Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th are your best bets. Clean, glassy, good groundswell. After that, it’s a long stretch of small, poor conditions. Get out there early on those two days.
