The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Fuengirola.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. We're looking at a long, painful stretch of flat or near-flat conditions. For the vast majority of this 16-day window, you're gonna be staring at a lake. There's a good 15 days of nothing worth paddling out for, from the start of the period all the way through to the 4th of September. The only sliver of hope, and it's a real slim one, comes right at the very end.
The one and only time we see any real pulse of energy is on the morning of Saturday, the 5th of September. Now, this isn't gonna be a day for the history books, but it's the only show in town. Fuengirola itself will be the spot. We’re looking at a tiny little 3 ft swell pushing in from the east, with a short period of 5 seconds. The combined swell energy is a weak 45, so it's not packing much punch. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
The big saving grace here is the wind. It's forecast to be absolutely glassy, calm as a millpond. That means the surface will be perfect, and those small, weak waves will be as clean as they can possibly be. For a beginner-friendly break like Fuengirola, which is fairly consistent when there's swell, this is actually your best bet. The optimum swell direction is from the ESE, and we're getting close to that with a straight east swell.
Don't expect any power, and don't expect any long rides. The period is short, so it'll be a bit of a bumpy, crumbling wave, but for a longboard or a funboard, on a glassy morning, you might just get a few fun little rides. The crowds are listed as "sometimes," so at a spot this size, expect a few other desperate souls out there with you.
For the rest of the forecast, it's a total drought. The wind is often offshore or cross-off, but that doesn't matter when there's absolutely no swell to push. It's a classic, frustrating summer flat spell. Hopefully, the forecasts change, but for now, mark your calendar for the 5th, and get your gear ready for a glassy, small-wave session.
