Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right then, let’s take a look at what’s on offer for Fuengirola over the next couple of weeks. I’ve got to be straight with you – it’s looking like a tough run. There’s really not much to get excited about.
The whole 16-day window is pretty much a write-off for any proper surfing. We’ve got a few tiny pulses of energy, but nothing that’s going to get your heart racing. The water temperature is sitting at 74°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – you won’t need a thick suit, that’s for sure.
Let’s start at the beginning. On Friday morning, the 3rd of July, we’re looking at a tiny 2ft swell from the east, with a period of just 6 seconds. That’s weak, short-period windswell, and the combined energy is only 34 – very weak. The wind is cross-shore from the NE at 9 mph, so it’s not going to be clean at all. In the afternoon it gets a little bigger at 4ft, but the period is still a short 6 seconds, and the wind shifts cross-on from the ENE, creating a chop. This is poor surf, plain and simple.
Saturday the 4th offers the best of a bad bunch, but it’s still nothing special. The morning sees a 3ft swell from the ESE with that same 6-second period, and combined energy of 64 (still weak). The wind is light from the north at 6 mph, which is cross-offshore, keeping the surface clean. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The afternoon goes downhill again as the wind picks up and turns cross-on.
From Sunday the 5th onwards, it’s a slow decline into flatness. The swell drops below 3ft, the period stays short, and the energy levels just fade away. By Wednesday the 8th, we’ve got zero swell, with glassy conditions in the morning and afternoon – beautiful for a paddle, but not a wave in sight. That flat spell stretches all the way through to the 12th of July.
There’s a tiny hiccup on Sunday the 12th afternoon with a 0.3ft easterly swell, but it’s accompanied by a moderate cross-onshore wind at 12 mph, making it messy and virtually unridable. After that, it’s back to near-flat conditions for the rest of the forecast period, with only a few 0.7ft to 1ft pulses that are barely worth mentioning.
Honestly, if you’re looking to paddle, this isn’t your window. The setup here looks more interesting for a kite surfer on a few of those windier afternoons, with a consistent breeze and clean, flat water. For us surfers, it’s a waiting game. Hang in there.
Rusty.
