The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the next couple of weeks for Fuengirola. I gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty flat. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a write-off for decent waves. There’s no real swell to speak of, and the tiny bits of energy that do show up are just too weak to get the place going. It’s going to be a long stretch with no worthwhile surf on offer.
So, starting out, this Saturday morning, the 18th of July, we’ve got nothing. Zero. The water temp is reading 70°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, but that won’t help you because there’s no wave to ride. The wind is light and cross-off, but it’s just polishing a flat ocean.
We roll through Sunday the 19th, Monday the 20th, and Tuesday the 21st, and it’s a dead calm. Glassy conditions, sure, but without any swell, it’s just a lake. You could take a paddleboard out, but that’s about it.
The first real hint of any energy comes on Wednesday the 22nd of July. We’re talking a tiny 0.7 ft ripple from the ENE with a period of 2 seconds. That’s not a wave, that’s a bump. The combined energy is a measly 1 (1). It’s a no-go. Thursday the 23rd is the same story. A bit more of that same weak, short-period windswell, but still no good.
From Friday the 24th all the way through to Saturday the 1st of August, it’s just a flat, empty ocean. The forecast shows nothing but zeros and poor surf conditions. It’s a total blank run. The wind shifts around, but it doesn’t matter because there’s nothing to surf.
Finally, on Sunday the 2nd of August, we see the biggest “swell” of the whole period. We’re looking at a 2 ft wave from the east with a 6-second period. The combined energy finally climbs to 25 (25), which is still weak. The morning looks glassy, and the afternoon sees a light cross-off breeze, so it’ll be clean. But honestly, 2 ft of short-period east swell at Fuengirola isn’t going to turn anyone on. It’s still poor surf conditions. For a beginner, it might be a tiny little ankle-snapper to mess around on, but there’s nothing here for anyone else.
Look, this is one of those periods where the forecast is the forecast. It’s a dry spell, and that happens. Keep an eye on things, because it can change, but for now, I wouldn’t be waxing up the board.
Rusty.
