The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get real here. Right now, the outlook for Bicentenial Park is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is a struggle, with nothing that really gets the heart pumping. We’ve got a long stretch of poor surf conditions, with only a couple of moments that are barely surfable. It’s a flat spell, and it’s going to feel like it.
First up, the water temp is sitting at 83°, which is about average for this time of year, so no weirdness there.
The first real sniff of anything is on Monday, July 20th, in the afternoon. We’re looking at a tiny 4 ft swell from the SE, with a short period of 4 seconds. The wind is a cross-off from the S at 9 mph, which will keep it clean. The combined energy is weak, at 62. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. Honestly, it’s a beginner’s wave at best, and even then, it’s not going to be much fun.
Then we wait. Nothing really changes until the morning of Tuesday, July 28th. Another pulse of 1 ft SE swell with an 8-second period, clean offshore wind from the W at 6 mph. The combined energy is still weak at 44. Again, surfable but very ordinary. It’s the same story.
The last little flicker is on Friday, July 31st, in the morning. A 1 ft ESE swell, 8-second period, glassy wind from the ENE at 3 mph. The energy is a weak 43. It’s clean, but it’s tiny.
The rest of the window is a write-off. The wind is mostly cross or onshore, the swell is tiny, and the energy is weak. The best on offer is those two Monday and Tuesday afternoons, but calling them a “standout” would be a joke. They’re just the least bad. For a spot that’s already inconsistent, this is a classic blank run. Don’t expect much. The breaks are exposed to the east, and the swells we’re seeing are not matching that optimum direction. It’s a tough time.
