Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bicentenial Park over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look straight at what we’ve got for the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, mate, it’s a pretty flat and quiet run. There’s no real swell to get excited about. The whole 16-day window is a big stretch of small, weak waves, with only a few sessions that are even worth paddling out for. The best you’ll find is tiny, knee-high stuff, and the energy is weak – the combined swell energy sits mostly in the 20s and 30s, with a couple of afternoons late in the run nudging into the 70s (still weak energy). This is a long, dry spell of small surf.
The first real chance to get wet is Wednesday morning, July 8th, at Bicentenial Park (reef). The swell is a tiny 1.0ft from the ESE with a period of 9 seconds. The water temp is 84°F, which is about average for this time of year. The wind is a light SW cross-off, keeping things clean. But honestly, “poor surf conditions” is the call – it’s just not enough push to do much. The afternoon gets worse with a strong SE wind creating chop.
Thursday morning, July 9th, is one of the better windows. A 2ft ESE swell, 9-second period, with glassy conditions. The energy is still weak (50), but it’s the cleanest you’ll see the water all week. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The crowd situation at Bicentenial Park is “always” busy, so expect a few other punters for the tiny waves.
After that, it’s a flat, choppy slog for days. The mornings are mostly clean but wave-less, and the afternoons are blown out. We get a few more “surfable but very ordinary” mornings on Thursday, July 16th, with a 1ft, 8-second NE swell and glassy conditions, and another on Friday, July 17th, with a 1.0ft, 7-second ESE swell – again, glassy but tiny.
The only real uptick in energy comes in the second week, on the afternoons of Monday, July 20th, Tuesday, July 21st, and Wednesday, July 22nd. The swell bumps up to 2ft from the ESE, 8 seconds, with the combined energy hitting 72, 76, and 82 (still weak, but the strongest of the whole forecast). Problem is, the wind is a moderate cross-shore from the SSE, so it’s messy and choppy. Still, for a desperate surfer, that’s the most push you’ll feel.
The standout? It’s gotta be Thursday morning, July 9th. It’s the cleanest, glassiest session with the most consistent ESE swell direction (matching the optimum swell direction for the break). The size is only 2ft, and the energy is weak, but if you want a wave without wind-ruffle, that’s your window.
Overall, this is a long, quiet period. Don’t expect much, but keep an eye on the afternoons around July 20th-22nd for a bit more energy.
Rusty.
