The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Bicentenial Park.
To be straight with you, mate, this stretch of the next two weeks is a bit of a flat spell. The first recommendation doesn’t come in until Friday the 28th of August, and even then, it’s nothing to get excited about. We’ve got a solid gap of no worthwhile waves from now until that Friday morning.
For the Friday morning, the 28th of August, we might see a small bump. It’s a reef break, so when it works, it can offer a bit of shape, but it’s an inconsistent spot and crowds are always a problem here. The morning shows some clean 2ft swell coming from the ESE with a light offshore wind from the W. The combined swell energy is weak at 69. It’s surfable, but it’s pretty ordinary. The water temp is sitting at 85°, which is about average for the time of year.
The next morning, Saturday the 29th of August, starts out glassy with 2ft from the ESE again, and a combined energy of 51. Offshore wind from the SW. Still very ordinary, but if you’re desperate for a paddle, it’s clean.
We then hit another dry spell until Tuesday the 1st of September. That Tuesday morning shows a bit more life with 2ft from the E, but the period has stretched to 11 seconds, giving it a bit more push. The combined energy is moderate at 108. Light offshore wind from the SW keeps it clean. Still just a “surfable but ordinary” vibe.
Wednesday the 2nd of September morning is glassy with 2ft from the E, combined energy at 76. Again, small and clean but nothing to write home about.
The best of the whole run, if you can call it that, looks like Thursday the 3rd of September morning. We’ve got glassy conditions with a calm wind, and 3ft coming from the NNE with a short period of 7 seconds. Combined energy is moderate at 108. It’s clean and the swell is a little bigger, but the short period means it’ll be a bit weak and crumbly. Not a standout for experts, but for a beginner, it’s the best the forecast has to offer.
After that, Friday the 4th of September morning holds 4ft from the NE with a clean cross-offshore wind, combined energy at 150. Again, ordinary but clean.
Honestly, nothing here is a true standout. The conditions are generally poor, the swell is tiny, and the consistency is lacking. For a reef break that’s rarely breaking well, this is a pretty typical run for the area. If you’re a kite surfer, the afternoon seabreezes might give you something to play with, but for a paddle surfer, it’s a waiting game. Forecasts can change, though.
Stay tuned,
Rusty
