The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, with the outlook for Bicentenial Park. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – this 16-day run looks like a real bummer for catching a wave. The water temp is about 83°, pretty normal for the season, but the waves themselves are just not showing up.
The whole story is tiny, weak surf. We’re talking waves mostly under 2 feet, with a super short period that’s more like bumpy water than real swell. The wave energy is low across the board, with most readings in the teens or single digits. For a reef break that’s already inconsistent, this is a tough stretch.
There’s no standout session, not even a half-decent one. The first few days are a total loss. Tuesday the 14th has a weak 2-foot wave in the afternoon, but it’s just ordinary. Wednesday the 15th is worse. Thursday the 16th is more of the same. Friday the 17th morning is glassy but only ankle-high.
The pattern keeps going – tiny, weak, and inconsistent. The afternoon of Saturday the 20th sees a bump to 3 feet, but it’s from the SE with a period of only 4 seconds and a strong onshore wind making it choppy. Not worth it. The afternoon of Wednesday the 23rd offers another 3-foot, 4-second slop, but again, poor quality.
The only glimmer comes late in the window. Monday the 27th morning has a clean, offshore 2-foot wave from the E. It’s small, but the offshore wind is nice. The afternoon of the 27th has a spike in energy, but it’s all cross-onshore chop. Tuesday the 28th afternoon has a reading of 161 energy, but it’s a messy cross-shore wind. The Wednesday the 29th morning brings back some clean offshore wind for a 2-foot wave.
Honestly, if you’re a paddle surfer, you’re better off staying home. This is a long flat spell for an inconsistent break. Maybe a kite surfer could have some fun with the 3-foot, 4-second sea breeze chop, but for a regular surfer, it’s a no-go. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, it’s a hard pass.
Rusty.
