The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got coming up over the next sixteen days. I gotta be straight with you – it’s looking like a long, quiet stretch with barely a ripple to get excited about. The finder shows no good surf options are lined up, meaning if you’re set on a paddle, you might be better off waiting for the next weather system to stir things up. That said, forecasts can change, and the break itself is fairly consistent, so a blank run like this isn’t the norm around here, but it’s what’s on the cards for now.
We start off on Monday, August 17th, and honestly, it’s a total flat spell. The ocean’s basically asleep, with combined swell energy sitting at zero (0). The only thing breaking the surface is a light WNW breeze kicking up a few ripples. The water temp is 87°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but with dead-flat conditions, it’s only good for a swim.
The whole first week just drifts by with nothing to shout about – tiny scraps of windswell here and there (0.7ft to 2ft from the west, with periods barely 2 to 5 seconds), but every day is marked as “poor surf conditions.” The combined energy is in the single digits or double zeros. Winds are mostly onshore or cross-onshore, so even those microscopic bumps would be chopped up. Not one morning or afternoon offers anything rideable through Sunday, August 23rd.
There’s a small flicker of hope on Monday morning, August 24th, when the wind shifts a little cross-offshore and the water goes clean, but there’s still no swell – combined energy is zero (0). It’s a tease, really. The next two weeks bring more of the same: long gaps where the surf stays at zero, with a few afternoons in late August showing tiny west swell readings (1ft to 2ft), but they’re all paired with onshore wind and labelled poor.
Finally, on Tuesday, September 1st, we get a brief moment of glassy conditions in the morning – the wind drops to almost nothing. But again, no swell. The ocean is flat as a pancake.
So to be honest, there isn’t a single standout day across the whole 16-day window. If you’re packing a kite instead of a paddle, the moderate cross-onshore winds on some of those later August afternoons might offer a bit of fun, but for surfing, it’s a total washout. Don’t lose hope, though – it won’t stay this way forever.
Rusty.
