Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anna Maria Key over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, let’s get real about Anna Maria Key. I’m gonna be straight with you: we’ve got a long, flat stretch ahead. The next couple of weeks look pretty grim for paddling out. There are no good surf options on the table in this 16-day window. The forecast is a barren run of tiny, weak waves and onshore wind. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, it’s a bit of a surprise, but it happens. Don’t lose hope – forecasts can turn around.
Let’s start with this Sunday, the 12th. It’s a total write-off. The water is a balmy 89.2° – that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, over 4.7° above average, so it’s notable. But the swell is dead. The combined energy of everything is a flat zero. Light onshore breeze, but there’s simply nothing to ride.
Monday, the 13th, and Tuesday, the 14th, we see a tiny pulse. Swell barely reaches 0.7 ft to 1.3 ft, with a short period, mostly from the WNW. The combined energy is laughable, sitting at 1 to 15. It’s poor surf conditions. Tuesday morning shows a little cross-offshore wind and a clean look, but the wave is just too small to get excited about. For a beginner, it’s barely a ripple.
Wednesday the 15th morning has a clean looking 0.7 ft with a light offshore from the ENE – that’s a good wind direction for Anna Maria Key. But again, the combined energy is only 3 – it’s weak. There’s a tiny window of clean, glassy water, but you’re fighting for nothing.
The rest of the week through to the 27th is a broken record. The swell never gets above 2.0 ft, and most of the time it’s between 0.0 ft and 1.3 ft. The combined energy rarely breaks into double digits. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, from the NW, WNW, or SW, keeping the surface bumpy. A few morning slots, like the 15th and the 24th, have a clean cross-off or light breeze, but the swell is absent.
The 25th of July, a Saturday, has a moment of total glass – no wind, and a “glassy” state. But the combined energy is zero. It’s a mirror out there, not a wave.
The 27th Monday morning sees a fresh 18.6 mph cross-offshore from the SE, but with only 0.7 ft and a combined energy of 2, it’s a strong wind over nothing. That setup looks far more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Honestly, if you’re desperate for a splash, the cleanest but smallest window is Wednesday the 15th morning. A light offshore from the ENE, 0.7 ft, period of 6 seconds, and a combined energy of 3. It’s a paddle at best.
There are no standouts. The best wave on offer is the tiny 2.0 ft from the SW on Tuesday the 21st afternoon, but with a moderate onshore breeze, it’s a messy shorebreak. Not worth the drive.
Stay patient. It’s a flat spell, but it’s not forever.
