The Lowdown
Alright, let's get into it. This stretch is a real bummer, I gotta be honest with you. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty grim. We’ve got Aleluia on the table, and that’s about it, but it’s not delivering the goods.
Right from July 16th, the wind is howling onshore from the southeast, locking in that poor surf quality. The swell is there, rolling in at 6ft on the 16th, but with a short period of 11 seconds and a combined energy of 927 (moderate wave energy), it’s just a messy, wind-blown chop. The water’s at 79°, which is about average for the time of year. This pattern just doesn't let up. Through the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th, we’re stuck with the same story: onshore wind, and a swell that’s either too short-period or just being hammered flat. The combined energy dips and rises a bit, but the quality is consistently poor.
We get a small break in the wind on the 23rd and 24th, with a light cross-onshore breeze, but the swell is dropping fast, down to 4ft, and the period is a weak 8 seconds. It’s still not worth a paddle. The 25th and 26th see the swell shrink further, barely a ripple. The 27th and 28th actually bring a longer period groundswell from the south, with periods up to 14 seconds and some better energy (up to 444), but the onshore wind is back, ruining any chance of a clean wave.
Then, the only glimmer in this whole outlook. On the morning of July 29th, Aleluia looks like it could be clean. The wind goes glassy, with a 3ft swell from the SSE at 12 seconds. That’s a long period, so it’ll have some shape. At 3ft, it’s a small wave, but it’s the only time the conditions align. The combined energy is 270 (moderate). This is the best on offer, but it’s still a small and inconsistent wave at a reef break that can be crowded. For a beginner, 3ft is fine, but for anyone else, it’s a long wait for a groveler.
After that, July 30th and 31st just go back to the same old story: onshore wind, a messy sea, and a swell that’s all over the place. The 31st has a very long period of 19 seconds from the south with a combined energy of 685 (strong wave energy), but it’s accompanied by a moderate cross-onshore wind that’s making it a choppy, blown-out mess. A reef break with that much period and cross-onshore wind is just a recipe for frustration.
Honestly, this is a blank run. There’s a single, brief window on July 29th that might give you a couple of clean, tiny waves if you’re desperate and have a log. Otherwise, it’s a write-off. The forecasts can change, but right now, this is a tough one.
