The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at how things are shaping up for St Agnes over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the whole 16-day window is a bit of a write-off for the surf. There’s nothing on the cards that’s worth getting excited about. The forecast is pretty much a flat spell with a side-serving of onshore wind, so you’re not missing much. We’ve got a long stretch of days here with no real surf to speak of, running from Friday 17th July all the way through to the end of the month. That’s a solid two-week gap with nothing rideable.
The swell is tiny throughout, with most days showing lumps of 1ft to 3ft. The wind is nearly always cross-onshore or onshore, and mostly from the N or NNW, which isn’t going to give you anything clean. Even when the wind drops to a light breeze, the swell is just too small to bother. The combined wave energy sits in the weak range, barely cracking 50 or 60 (23–86) for the first week, so there’s just no power behind it.
There is a small bump in size around the 25th and 26th of July, with swell heights hitting 5ft to 6ft and the combined energy jumping into the moderate range (209–280). But the wind is still onshore and the period is short at 6 to 7 seconds, so it’s just a messy, lumpy ocean. Not surfable, not good. The water temperature at St Agnes doesn’t have any anomaly mentioned, so it’s about average for the time of year.
Come the first of August, it’s back to tiny, weak swell and cross-onshore winds. Nothing changes. Honestly, this is one of those rare total blanks where the ocean just isn’t cooperating. The forecast can always change, but for now, you’re better off keeping the board in the van.
Rusty.
