Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, grab a coffee, let's have a look at what's on the table for the St Agnes stretch over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it's a bit of a lean spell. We’ve got a 16-day window here, and straight up, there’s not a single day where I’d tell you to drop everything and paddle out. The whole forecast is a pretty quiet run of small, weak swell and wind that’s almost never on our side. If you're itching for a paddle, you'll be chasing tiny leftovers, but there's nothing that qualifies as a proper session. The first week is particularly flat and choppy, and the second week doesn't get any better.
Let’s start at the beginning. The very first record we see is for Sunday, the 5th of July, but it's a write-off. We've got a tiny 3ft swell from the west, with a cross-on wind from the WNW at 6 mph. The energy is weak, reading just 132, and the water is a touch warmer than normal at 62°. The waves are just messy wind slop. That sets the tone for the whole first week.
All through that first week and into the second, from the 5th through to the 11th, we’re stuck in a pattern. The swell hovers between 2ft and 4ft, mostly from the west or west-northwest, with periods around 8 to 9 seconds – that's short-period, weak windswell. The wind is almost constantly cross-on or onshore, blowing from the north-west or north-northwest, getting up to 19 mph by the Friday and Saturday. The combined energy never gets out of the moderate range, topping out at 192 on the 11th, but it’s all rough and blown-out. The surf quality is just "poor" across the board.
Saturday the 11th of July sees a bit of a pulse – a 4ft swell from the north with a short 6-second period, but we've got a fresh 19 mph onshore wind. It’s a messy, choppy mess. Not for paddling, if you ask me. For a beach setup, this kind of wind with that size looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. We see that same pattern again on Monday the 13th with a 4ft swell from the north and 16 mph onshore wind.
The second week is even more desperate. From the 14th onwards, the swell drops right off. We see a tiny 2ft swell on the 14th from the west with an 11-second period (that's a touch longer period, but it's just too small to care about). The energy is moderate at 105, but the cross-on wind from the north just kills it. After that, from the 15th through the 20th, we’re looking at 0.7ft to 2ft swell – basically flat. The wind stays cross-on or onshore, and the energy drops into the weak zone, down to a pathetic 5 by the afternoon of the 20th.
So, to put it bluntly, there is no standout option. There is no best day. Every single entry in the forecast is marked with "poor surf conditions." It’s one of those stretches where you’re better off checking the forecast for the next system, because this one just isn't delivering. The setup is a classic calm spell for this area, so don't let it get you down.
Rusty.
