Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the cards for St Agnes over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – the start of this outlook is a tough one to write. We’re looking at a real long dry spell. From Monday the 6th right through to Sunday the 19th of July, it’s pretty much all poor surf conditions. There isn’t a single recommendation I can point you to for a proper session during that whole stretch. The water temp is sitting at a pretty average 60°F for this time of year, nothing out of the ordinary there, but the waves just aren’t cooperating.
We’ve got a few days of small, weak swell in the 2ft range with short periods around 8 to 9 seconds. The winds are mostly cross or cross-onshore, keeping things choppy and messy. The combined energy figures are low, mostly bouncing between 75 and 130 – that’s weak to moderate energy, and it’s just not doing anything for us. It’s a real bummer, but it happens.
Now, after that long quiet period, things start to wake up. Towards the back end of the run, around Saturday the 18th, the swell really starts to build. By Saturday morning, we’ve got 7ft of swell rocking in from the WSW, with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is strong at 606, but the wind is onshore from the NNW at 9 mph, so it’s going to be a bit of a washing machine. That size is getting into expert-only territory, too.
The real standout, the one I’d circle on the calendar, is Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st. Monday morning shows a solid 8ft swell from the west, period of 8 seconds, and a whopping combined energy of 798 (strong). The wind is a light, cross-onshore breeze from the NE at 9 mph, so it’ll be a bit bumpy but there’s plenty of power. Tuesday the 21st looks even more promising. The morning session has a cross-offshore wind from the ESE at 19 mph, but the swell holds at 8ft from the west. The energy jumps right up to 1156 (very strong), and the wind description is "clean." That’s the kind of setup that gets the heart pumping. The swell direction is WNW, which is a pretty good match for St Agnes’ exposure to WSW. Keep in mind, at 8ft, this is big, powerful stuff and really only for the experienced crew.
So, the summary is: a long, frustrating wait with nothing on offer until the very end of the period. But if you can hold out for Monday the 20th and especially Tuesday the 21st, there could be some proper, heavy waves to get into.
Rusty.
