The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get straight into it for the St Agnes area. I've gotta be honest, looking at the charts for the next couple of weeks, it's a pretty grim run. There's no real surf to get excited about, so don't be in a rush to wax up.
We start off with absolutely nothing. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are flat with tiny, weak 1ft slop. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but it's not going to make the lack of waves any easier to swallow. Saturday and Sunday the 18th and 19th see a tiny bump from the north, but it's short-period, onshore junk. The wind is howling from the north at 15-19 mph, making a mess of anything that might try to show.
The whole of the following week, from Monday the 20th right through to Saturday the 26th of July, is more of the same. We get a few small pulses, but the winds are persistently onshore or cross-onshore from the north. That groundswell on the 24th and 25th (Friday and Saturday) pushes the wave energy into triple digits, hitting 137 and 158, but it's a short-period, onshore close-out. Look, with those strong winds and choppy conditions at a beach setup, this actually looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. There's just nothing clean for us.
We finally catch a break on Sunday the 27th of July. The wind swings around to a light cross-offshore from the southwest, and we get a bit of 2-3ft groundswell from the west. The energy is moderate (109). It's not going to be pumping, but for the first time in the forecast, the surface will be clean. Monday the 28th through the end of the month sees the swell drop back down to tiny, pathetic 1-2ft waves with onshore winds returning. It's a long, quiet spell, and with no consistency in size or wind, this kind of blank run is pretty normal for the area this time of year. We’ll have to wait and see if the forecasts change.
Rusty.
