Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s chew the fat on what’s coming for St Agnes over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I’ll tell you it’s a tough watch. The first few days are a write-off. Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th, we’ve got a weak 4ft to 3ft west-northwest swell with a moderate cross-onshore breeze, and it’s choppy, messy, and completely flat energy wise (319 to 140). The combined swell energy is weak, and the wave comment is blunt: poor surf conditions. No point even looking.
Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th are the same story – tiny 3ft to 2ft west swell, short period around 8 seconds, and light to gentle cross-onshore winds. The combined energy drops to 97 and then 75. Honestly, leave the board in the truck.
We finally get a bit of a glimmer on Thursday the 9th, but it’s nothing to write home about. The morning shows a 2ft west-northwest swell with a clean cross-offshore easterly breeze at 6 mph. The wave comment calls it "surfable but very ordinary," and with a combined energy of only 99, it’s weak. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing special.
From Friday the 10th through to the end of the second week, it’s a lot of the same – small, weak, poor conditions. The exception is around Monday the 13th to Tuesday the 14th, when we see a bit of a pulse. Monday the 13th morning shows a 2ft west-northwest swell but with a long period of 12 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 163. By Tuesday the 14th morning, the swell picks up to 4ft from the west-northwest, period 10 seconds, and combined energy hits 302. The afternoon of the 14th gets even more interesting with a 4ft swell and a combined energy of 551 – that’s moderate to strong energy. But here’s the rub: the wind is onshore, NNW at 12 mph, and the conditions are still labelled "poor." It’s a groundswell with a long period, so it could be better shaped at a point or reef, but St Agnes is fairly exposed and the wind is just ruining it. The wave comment never improves past "poor surf conditions" for the entire forecast.
To be honest, for these 16 days, there is no standout session. The best I can say is Thursday the 9th morning might give you a clean, surfable wave if you’re desperate, but it’s tiny. If you’re a beginner, you’ll be fine in the small stuff, but the conditions are just ordinary. The gaps are huge – from Saturday the 4th right through to Wednesday the 8th, there’s nothing worth recommending. The run looks pretty blank for St Agnes, but with the consistent small swell and occasional clean windows, it might not stay dead forever. Forecasts can change.
Stay tuned, and keep your eye on that Tuesday the 14th pulse – if the wind swings, it could be a different story. But as it stands, I’d leave the wetsuit on the peg.
Rusty.
