Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, so, lookin’ at the charts for St Agnes here, and I gotta be straight with ya – the next couple of weeks are a real struggle. This is one of those periods where Mother Nature just isn’t cooperating for us wave-starved souls.
We’re kickin’ off from July 4th with barely a pulse. The water’s a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sittin’ at 62°, but that’s about the only consolation. The swell is tiny, direction’s all wrong out of the west, and the wind is a constant cross-onshore or onshore mess. It’s choppy, it’s weak, and frankly, it’s not worth paddlin’ out for. We’ve got a solid run of days where the combined energy is barely ticklin’ the 100 mark (250, 146, 140, 100), just enough to remind you what you’re missin’. This grim stretch runs all the way through to the morning of the 11th.
Now, the afternoon of Saturday the 11th offers a tiny glimmer. The wind swings to a light cross-offshore out of the east, and the sea cleans right up, with the combined energy hittin’ 101. But the wave height is a pathetic 2ft. It’s surfable, but you’d need a log and a whole lot of patience. The crowds are gonna be there though, this spot gets busy often, so don’t expect any solitude for those dribblers.
The rest of the second week is a total washout. The breeze stays clean, but the swell is all over the shop – tiny, short-period slop, or weird long-period stuff like the 19-second monster on the 13th that has zero size behind it. The energy is pitiful, often below 100 (33, 56, 19, 79). The only real standout in terms of swell size is the afternoon of Sunday the 19th, where we see a sudden pulse to 6ft from the SSW – that’s the biggest swell of the whole outlook. The combined energy jumps to 378 (moderate wave energy). But this is a cruel joke, because the wind is howlin’ out of the west at 20 km/h, creatin’ a choppy, cross-onshore mess. That’s a write-off for paddlin’. If you’re a kiter, that afternoon might look good, but for a surfboard? Forget it.
So, the honest truth? There’s no standout. There is nothin’ to get excited about. The only session that isn’t a total zero is that Saturday afternoon (11th), and even that is a complete knee-high grovel. Hopefully the forecasts change, because this is a rough patch.
