The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk St Agnes. Over the next couple weeks, we got some heavy hitters coming in, but the wind is gonna be a real pain for most of it. Don’t get your hopes up too early.
Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st are a total washout. We’ve got a fresh cross-onshore breeze making a 8ft to 3ft WNW swell a choppy, lumpy mess. Not worth your time. Saturday the 22nd drops down to a tiny 2ft from the W, but the wind goes light and clean for the morning. It’s small, but if you’re jonesing, it’s rideable. The energy is real weak (88). That’s our first real shot, and it’s not much. From Sunday the 23rd all the way to Tuesday the 25th, the swell bottoms out – we’re talking 1ft to 2ft with light to fresh cross-offshore winds keeping it glassy, but there’s no power. The combined energy is a whisper (37 to 74). A long, boring gap of tiny waves.
Now, Wednesday the 26th is a flicker. Swell picks up to 5ft from the SSW with a short period (7 secs), but the big news is a fresh offshore wind from the SSE. It’s marked as marginal, but a clean 5ft wave with offshore breeze could give you a few fun ones if the tide is right. Not a standout, but it’s action.
The real standout is Thursday the 27th. Morning and afternoon we’ve got clean 3ft to 4ft W swell (10 sec period) with light to gentle cross-offshore winds from the SW. The combined energy climbs to a solid 292. This is the best in the whole forecast: clean conditions, a nice rolling groundswell, and not too big. This is your day.
Friday the 28th gets ugly again. Jumps to 6ft from the W, but the wind swings cross-onshore and it gets choppy. That clean spell is gone.
Then the big stuff. Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th see a massive pulse – we’re talking 10ft to 13ft from the WSW and W. The combined energy is massive (1302 to 2730). For the morning of the 29th, it’s clean with cross-offshore wind, but the swell is reported as *too big* for St Agnes. Experts only. The afternoon of the 29th and the morning of the 30th have a cross-shore wind and the swell is still massive. This setup is more for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. For everyone else, it’s a look-don’t-touch deal.
Monday the 31st drops back to 4ft from the W with a risk of thunderstorms and a clean cross-offshore wind, but the energy is low (177). From Tuesday 1st to Friday 4th of September, we get another run of big, messy swell (8ft to 10ft) with strong cross-onshore winds. Lumpy, choppy, and unappealing.
The best of the whole lot is clean and fun on Thursday the 27th. Don’t sleep on that one.
