Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s talk about the same stretch in feet and miles per hour.
It starts quiet. The first real chance to surf is Sunday the 5th of July at Scarborough, but the waves are only about 3ft from the ENE with a 9-second period. Wind is offshore from the SW at 12 mph, so it’s clean enough, but the water’s 51°F—slightly warmer than average for this time of year, nothing wild. Combined energy is moderate at 181. It’s just ordinary surf.
Monday the 6th is even smaller in the morning at 2ft. The afternoon brings a 18-second groundswell from the SSE with energy jumping to 366, but the height stays at 2ft—not enough to get stoked about.
Now Tuesday the 7th of July: here’s the highlight. Morning sees 8ft of ENE swell with a short 9-second period and strong energy at 1577. Offshore cross-wind from the SSE at 9 mph keeps it clean. That’s expert-only—over 8ft and punchy. Afternoon holds at 8ft with similar energy (1446). This is the best of the whole forecast.
Wednesday the 8th keeps it solid. Morning has 5ft from the east with an 11-second period, light offshore wind from the SW at 6 mph, and energy at 623. Afternoon jumps back to 8ft with energy spiking to 2195—very strong—and light cross-offshore winds. Another excellent expert session.
Thursday the 9th drops to 5ft but wind picks up to 16 mph from the SSW, making conditions marginal. Energy is around 459. Not worth it.
Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th are your next good calls. Friday has 5ft to 4ft from the east at 11 seconds, gentle offshore winds from the WSW and SW at 9 mph, and energy around 375-459. Clean, fun waves. Saturday morning holds at 4ft, same direction and period, with gentle cross-offshore winds. Crowds are “sometimes” possible at Scarborough, so expect a few others.
From Sunday the 12th onward, it fades. Sunday through Monday the 13th have glassy mornings but only 3ft to 3ft waves, energy dropping to 130-151—weak.
Then there’s a lull. From Tuesday the 14th through Wednesday the 15th evening, it’s mostly poor or tiny. Thursday the 16th morning brings a sudden spike: 7ft from the NE with an 8-second period and solid energy at 723. Offshore wind from the SW at 6 mph keeps it clean. That’s another expert session, but it’s over a week away—keep it on the radar.
After that, from Friday the 17th through Monday the 20th, it’s flat or onshore junk. Waves drop to 1ft with poor wind, energy sinking to 40-186. Nothing to chase.
So bottom line: Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th of July are the clear winners—big, clean, for the brave. If that’s too heavy, aim for Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th. The long-range Thursday the 16th is a maybe, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
