Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at Hickory Bay on the Banks Peninsula. I’m gonna level with ya – this forecast is a long wait for a couple of clean windows.
The first few days are rough. Monday the 6th has 6ft of sloppy SSW swell with a 15 mph onshore wind. The wave energy is pushing into the strong range, but it’s all chop. Tuesday the 7th is worse: 8ft of short-period SSE swell with onshore winds. It’s a mess. Wednesday the 8th has 7ft of ENE groundswell with an 11-second period, but it’s too big for a beginner spot and the wind is still cross-onshore. You’re better off on the couch.
We finally get a change Friday the 10th. The swell drops to 5ft from the SSW with a very long 15-second period. The wind eases to a 12 mph cross-on, but it’s still not clean. The energy is high (2221). Saturday the 11th is similar – small and lumpy.
Now, here’s the first real standout: Sunday afternoon the 12th. The swell is tiny, just 3ft from the SSW, but that 14-second period will give it some punch. The wind is a light 6 mph cross-off breeze, and the report says to expect very good surf. It’ll be clean. Small, but clean.
After some windy, lackluster days that are too small to bother with, we get to Wednesday the 15th. This is the pick of the run. The morning shows 6ft of NE swell with a short 7-second period, but here’s the catch – the wind is a light 6 mph offshore from the NNW. The break will be glassy. The wave energy is moderate at 530. It’s clean, ridable surf after a long dry spell. Thursday the 16th has more size – 8ft from the NE – but that’s only for experts, even with a clean offshore wind. The energy is strong at 1258.
The final week fades into small, choppy conditions until Tuesday the 21st. That morning brings 3ft of ENE swell with an 11-second period and a light 3 mph cross-off breeze. The report says good surf conditions. It’ll be a clean little session for a longboard.
Bottom line: the first week is a bust. Sunday the 12th and Wednesday the 15th are your best chances. The 15th is the clear winner – clean, offshore, and a proper size for most. The rest is small and marginal.
Rusty, signing off.
