Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rocky Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening at Rocky Point.
Straight up, it’s a tough outlook for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a stretch of real flat, poor conditions kicking off Thursday, July 9th, and it’s going to be a long wait for anything worthwhile. The first few days are pretty much a write-off, with tiny, wind-affected slop. The wind stays cross or cross-off from the east-northeast, and the swell is basically non-existent, with wave energy barely registering (10 to 36). Not worth paddling out for.
By Sunday, July 12th, there’s a slight bump in the water, but the combined energy is still weak (154), and the wind is a cross-shore mess, so it’s still a pass. This low-energy pattern drags on through the middle of the week.
The best window we’ve got in this whole 16-day run is actually Tuesday, July 14th, through Wednesday, July 15th. Rocky Point will see a tiny waist-high swell from the west, around 2ft. The key here is the wind goes cross-offshore from the east, and the wave state cleans right up. The combined energy climbs into the moderate range (342 on Tuesday afternoon), which is the most promising we’ll see. For a reef break, that cross-off wind will make the faces nice and smooth. But let’s be real, it’s still small. The water temp is about average for the middle of July, so a 3/2mm should be fine.
There’s a bit of a weird pop on Tuesday, July 21st, in the afternoon. The swell jumps to 4-5ft from the northeast, but the period is a short 8 seconds, so it’s going to be a bit of a bumpy, close-out mess. The energy is moderate (217), but the quality is still poor. By Thursday, July 23rd, it’s back to dead flat.
If you’re an expert, maybe keep an eye on that Tuesday, July 21st, for a novelty session, but for most, the mid-week of July 14th-15th is your one real chance. The cross-off wind and clean conditions make it the standout, even if it’s not a bomber swell. After that, the tank goes empty again.
Stay patient, folks. It’s a flat spell.
Rusty.
