Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down the surf.
It’s a slow start, but there's some real firepower coming in the first weekend. Water temp is 65°F, which is a bit colder than average for this time of year.
Tuesday (July 7th): Forget it. Tiny 2ft swell from the SSW with a moderate cross-shore wind and chop. Weak energy.
Wednesday (July 8th): Still small, 3ft from the SSW. Morning has a light breeze and ripples, but not enough push.
Thursday (July 9th): This is where it gets going. Morning delivers a solid 10ft SSW swell with a cross-offshore breeze. The energy is strong – a big window for experienced surfers only. Afternoon drops to 6ft but gets messy.
Friday (July 10th): Still a big day. Morning has an 8ft swell from the S with a long 15-second period and a light cross-shore wind. Strong energy again. The long period will favor the reef at Rock-Wave. Afternoon stays big at 8ft but gets choppier.
Saturday (July 11th): This is the absolute standout. Morning: 7ft from the S with glassy, dead-calm conditions. The line-up will be clean and smooth. Strong energy. This is excellent for experienced surfers. Afternoon turns onshore and goes to crap.
Sunday (July 12th): Another big morning. 8ft from the SE with a short 8-second period. The wind is light cross-offshore, keeping it clean. The short period means less punch, but it’s still a big wave. Afternoon brings rain and cross-onshore wind.
Monday (July 13th): Dropping. 8ft from the ESE in the morning but cross-onshore wind makes it bumpy. Not the best.
Tuesday (July 14th): Morning is clean again with a 7ft SE swell and glassy conditions. Solid energy. A great morning for the experienced. Afternoon picks up a 8ft swell but goes cross-onshore.
Wednesday (July 15th): A big drop to 4ft from the ESE, but the wind goes offshore from the NW. That’s clean, peaky surf. Moderate energy. A good window for intermediates.
Thursday (July 16th) through Saturday (July 18th): Fizzling out. Small waves around 3ft to 4ft with moderate to fresh winds. Nothing special. Saturday sees a tiny 3ft swell.
Sunday (July 19th) onwards: The long-range is quiet. A few small pulses, maybe 4ft from the E on Sunday morning with a cross-offshore wind, but the energy is low. The rest of the week is all small, weak swells under 4ft with cross-shore winds.
Bottom line: The gold is Saturday morning (July 11th) at Rock Wave – glassy conditions, a solid 7ft S swell, and strong energy. The big Thursday and Friday mornings (July 9th and 10th) are for the experienced, and Wednesday morning (July 15th) offers a clean, smaller option with offshore wind. The second week is mostly flat.
Rusty.
