The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – looking at the next 16 days for this spot is a tough one. The whole window is a long stretch of poor surf conditions, so we’re looking at a big blank run with no real standouts to get excited about.

We start off on Monday the 7th with barely a ripple, just 0.7ft from the ENE. Wave energy is weak, reading only 12 for the morning. The water temp is 87°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year. The whole first week is basically a write-off with tiny swell and choppy onshores. There's a brief moment Tuesday the 8th morning where it goes glassy, but with a 1.0ft NE swell, it’s just not enough to paddle for.

Things try to pick up a little around Wednesday the 9th with a NNE swell hitting 3ft to 3ft in the arvo, period sitting at 8 seconds. Combined energy climbs to a moderate 120 in the afternoon. The wind stays cross-on from the ESE though, so it's gonna be messy. That pattern of small, choppy surf just keeps repeating all through the rest of the week and into the next. By Saturday the 12th, we're back down to 1.0ft.

The second week doesn't offer any relief. You get a few days in mid-September with 3ft to 3ft NNE/NE swells, again onshore or cross-onshore winds ruining that potential. A couple of mornings like Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th show glassy conditions, but the swell is a tiny 2ft to 2ft. The best-looking period is the morning of Monday the 21st, where a 3ft NE swell (period 7 seconds) rolls in with a light cross-shore wind. The combined energy is 108, moderate. It’s the biggest wave of the whole forecast and the closest to manageable, but with light cross-shore winds, it’ll still be a bit lumpy. Honestly, if the wind forecast for that morning swings offshore, it's the only shot you've got at something clean, but as it stands, it's still poor.

Overall, this is a classic flat spell for a fairly exposed setup like this. When the swell is this small and the wind is this stubborn, you're better off waiting for the next weather pattern. For most of this period, especially with the onshore winds, a beach-and-reef setup like this looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle. The forecasts can always change, but right now, there's nothing to recommend.

Rusty.
