The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Reef Road over the next couple weeks, and I ain’t gonna sugarcoat it – it’s a real desert out there. This spot is a beach-and-reef setup, and it needs some proper swell to get goin’.
For the first week and a half, don’t even bother. We’re talkin’ flatness and weak, stumpy waves. The combined swell energy is barely a whisper, stuck between 10 and 97 (weak to barely moderate). The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, with thunderstorms in the mix from the 6th through the 9th of August. Swell heights are tiny, not even 1.0m, with periods under 8 seconds. Nothin’ to ride.
There’s a brutal gap with zero recommendations – literally 15 days of poor surf. From now right through the middle of the month, every session is a goose egg. Around Tuesday 6th to Friday 9th of August, the swell tries to push up to about 0.9m to 1.0m, but it’s all short-period junk with the wind all over it. Just blown out and messy.
We don’t have much on the water temp bein’ weird here, so let’s just focus on the wind.
The only glimmer? Tuesday, August 18th in the afternoon. The wind swings cross-offshore out of the south at 25 km/h, and the wave comment calls it "clean." But the swell is still a pathetic 0.2m from the ESE with an 8-second period. The combined energy is weak (24). It’s pretty, but there’s nothin’ to surf.
Best on offer? There ain’t one. If you absolutely had to sit in the water, that Tuesday afternoon is the cleanest window, but you’d be bobbin’ on a flat lake. The whole 16-day run is a total bust for Reef Road.
Signin’ off, Rusty.
