The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's talk about what's on offer for the next stretch.
First off, I gotta be straight with you – we're looking at a pretty grim run here. The forecast for the next 16 days is basically a flat spell. There's nothing that qualifies as a proper surf session, so we're in for a long wait. The first few days offer nothing, and the pattern just keeps repeating itself: tiny little lumps of swell with not enough push to get you excited.
The water is sitting at 87°F, which is about normal for this time of year, so at least you won't need a thick suit.
The only break on the radar is Reef Road, a beach and reef setup that's consistent but needs a bit more juice than what's coming. The window is a total write-off. Every single day is marked as "poor surf conditions" with zero scores. The biggest swell we see is a measly 3 ft on the morning of the 23rd of August, but it's coming from the SE with a period of only 5 seconds – that's windswell junk, and it's accompanied by a moderate cross-onshore breeze, making it choppy and messy. The combined energy on that day is only 39, which is weak.
There's a bit of a spike in energy on the 26th and 27th of August with combined energy hitting 72 and 90, but the swell heights are still tiny (1.0 ft to 1 ft) and the winds are either onshore or cross-onshore, killing any chance of a clean wave. On the 27th, there's a long-period swell of 14 seconds from the ESE, but with only 1.0 ft of height, it's just a long-period ripple. That's a groundswell for sure, but with no size, it's a tease.
Bottom line: There's no standout. No day worth paddling out. The entire 16-day forecast is a blank. For an area that's usually consistent, this is a proper dry spell. Kite surfers might get a look on the windier, choppier days, but for us paddle surfers, it's a waiting game. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's looking like a long, flat period.
Rusty.
