The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks in feet and miles per hour.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet stretch for Redondo Beach. The first week is mostly flat and messy. The water is a warm 70° right now, which is way above normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing breaking the boredom.
The one real bright spot lands on Saturday, July 25th. That morning, we’ve got a clean 2ft SW swell (21-second period – that’s a long period groundswell) with a light SSE breeze keeping it cross-offshore. The combined energy is a solid 914 (moderate energy), and it’s the only session in the whole run marked as “expect very good surf conditions.” That’s your winner. Paddle out early, because by afternoon the wind goes onshore and it’s all over.
Before that, you’ve got a tiny little window on Saturday, July 18th. Morning brings 2ft SW swell (18-second period), light cross-offshore wind, and combined energy of 279. It’s clean, but it’s small. Surfable, but nothing to get hyped about.
From Sunday, July 19th through Thursday, July 24th, it’s a lot of tiny, choppy, or blown-out junk. Don’t bother. After the 25th, we drop back into marginal conditions with cross-onshore and onshore winds for the rest of the month. The morning of Thursday, July 30th shows a clean 2ft SW swell (15-second period) with moderate energy (226), but it’s not a standout.
So, here’s the plan: clear your morning for Saturday, July 25th. That’s the only real quality window in the whole 16 days. The rest is a waiting game.
