Table - best surf conditions forecast for Redondo Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. I’ve been staring at the charts and, to be honest, it’s been a pretty grim run for our little slice of coast. There’s a big dry spell at the start here, so don’t bother rushing for a board just yet.
Redondo Beach is the only break on the cards, and for the first week and a half, it’s a write-off. From Sunday the 12th of July right through to Wednesday the 22nd of July, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing. The swell is tiny, the wind’s on it or cross-on, and most days the wave comment is "poor surf conditions." There’s practically no energy in the water, with the combined swell energy hanging around the 100’s to low-200’s mark (weak stuff). Don’t even bother paddling out; you’ll just get frustrated.
We finally get a tiny flicker of life on Thursday the 23rd of July morning. The wind goes glassy with an east-southeast flow, and although the swell is a pathetic 2 ft from the SSW with a 14-second period, at least the surface will be clean. It’s surfable, but it’s not pretty. The combined energy is only 140 (very weak).
But then… hold onto your board shorts. Friday the 24th of July morning looks like the real standout of this whole 16-day window. We get a groundswell from the SSW pushing 24-second periods—that’s a very long period swell. Wave heights are only 2 ft, but with that sort of energy behind it (combined swell energy hits 500—that’s moderate strong), the sets will have some punch. The wind is light from the southeast, giving us cross-offshore conditions, so you can expect clean, lined-up waves. The forecast says "expect very good surf conditions." That’s our window. Get on it early, because by the afternoon the wind shifts and it gets messy. This is a long-period groundswell, so it’ll be better angled for the points or reefs than a straight beach break—it might be a bit too straight for the bank here, but with that quality, I’d still be out there.
The morning of Saturday the 25th of July also has some promise, with clean conditions and swell from the SW at 2 ft and a 21-second period. Combined energy is 473 (moderate). It’s another good session, but the Friday morning is the true peak.
After that, it fades again into that weak, onshore junk for the rest of the period. Saturday the 26th and Monday the 27th have some size (3 ft to 3 ft) but the wind and conditions are poor or marginal.
In short: the first week is a dead loss. Then, Friday morning the 24th of July is your best bet. Get down there at sunrise, enjoy that glassy groundswell, and don’t blink, because it’s over quick.
Rusty.
