Table - best surf conditions forecast for Redondo Beach over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Let's have a proper look at what's shaping up for Redondo Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a bit of a flat spell to kick things off. There's some small, long-period groundswell rolling in from the SSW, around 2ft with a 15-second period, but the real story for Friday the 10th is the water temp. It's sitting at 69°F and that's 4°F warmer than usual – much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won't need a thick suit.
The best window we've got is Friday morning the 10th. Redondo Beach is seeing a cross-offshore breeze from the SSE at 9 mph, keeping things clean. The swell is a gentle 2ft from the SSW, and with that 15-second period, you get proper long lines. The combined energy is moderate at 238. It's not big, but it's tidy. The crowd situation is listed as "sometimes", so you might have a few others out, but nothing too hectic. For a beginner-friendly spot that's very consistent, this is the pick of the forecast if you want a cruisy, clean session.
Friday afternoon the 10th gets a bit messier with a light cross-shore wind and small crossing ripples, and the scores drop off. Saturday the 11th morning is similar – clean again with a cross-off breeze, same 2ft SSW groundswell, but the energy is a touch lower at 206. Still rideable, but not a standout.
From Saturday afternoon the 11th through to pretty much the whole of the following week, it's a struggle. The swell stays tiny – mostly 1ft to 2ft – and the winds get cranky. Sunday the 12th afternoon is choppy with a cross-onshore wind at 12 mph, and Monday the 13th morning is the only bright spot: glassy conditions with barely a breath of wind (SSW at 3 mph) and 2ft swell, but it's described as "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." The energy is weak at 159.
From Tuesday the 14th right through to Thursday the 23rd, it's a long run of poor surf. Most days have onshore or cross-onshore winds, the swell fluctuates between 1ft and 3ft, and scores are flat. There's a gap of about 10 days where I wouldn't bother paddling out for anything decent.
There is a flicker of hope on the morning of Wednesday the 22nd – a cross-offshore breeze from the SE at 12 mph with clean conditions and 2ft SSW swell, but it's still "marginal" at best. And then Thursday the 23rd morning goes glassy again with a whisper of WNW wind at 3 mph and 2ft swell – energy is weak at 139. It's surfable, but you won't be writing home about it.
The latter part of the month, from Friday the 24th onward, drops off a cliff. Swell heights are down to 1ft, period drops, and onshore winds dominate. The combined energy on Friday afternoon the 24th is just 47 – that's weak, barely a ripple.
Bottom line: Friday morning the 10th is your best bet for a clean, small-wave session. After that, it's a long, quiet stretch. Keep an eye on the charts – it tends not to stay this flat forever.
Rusty.
