The Lowdown
Alright, let me break down the surf outlook for Redondo Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a slow start here. For the first several days, the waves are tiny and the wind is all over the place. We’ve got a bit of a wait on our hands.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Wednesday morning, the 19th of August. The swell is small, only about 2ft from the SSW, but the wind goes glassy. It’s going to be clean, but the wave size is really more suited for a longboard or a foamie. The combined swell energy is moderate at 262, but it's a long-period groundswell (15 seconds), which should offer some nice shape even though it’s small. The water temperature is a very unusual 71°, which is way warmer than it should be for this time of year.
We get a bit of a dry spell after that, with morning conditions on Sunday the 23rd clean from a cross-off breeze, but it’s still tiny at 1ft. Not exactly firing.
Now, looking ahead, the end of the month is where things get interesting. Saturday the 29th of August is shaping up to be the standout. The morning session is looking very good. We’ve got a 3ft SSW groundswell with a clean cross-off breeze. The combined energy jumps to a strong 511, which is a huge step up from everything else in the window. That’s real power for the break. Just remember, the water will be warm and the crowds could be an issue here as Redondo Beach is a popular spot.
Sunday the 30th also has some pulse, with 3ft from the SSW and moderate energy in the 510-519 range, but the wind turns more cross-on and cross-shore, so it won’t be as clean as Saturday morning. It’ll be surfable, but you’ll have to work a bit harder for the good ones.
The long-range stuff around the 1st of September drops right back off, so your window is really that last week of August. Saturday morning the 29th is the one to circle on the calendar.
