Prainha Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's get into it. The long-range maps are showing a pretty quiet stretch ahead, so we gotta be patient. The next 16 days are all about picking the right windows and not getting too greedy.

Right off the bat, the first couple of days are pretty much a bust. We're looking at some small, weak swell with a touch of rain and light cross-shore winds. The energy is real low, sitting around 117-122 (moderate at best), and the waves are gutless. Not worth paddling out for.

We've got a bit of a lull for a day or two after that, where the swell just drops away. The energy numbers fall right off the cliff down into the 13-62 range, which is weak. It's a good time to wax your board or fix a ding, 'cause there's nothing happening.

Then, things start to wake up a bit around Saturday the 8th. The swell builds to chest-high, around 6ft, with a longer period of 12 seconds. The energy jumps considerably, hitting 961-1002 (strong). The morning is looking a little average, but Saturday afternoon (August 8th) is a real highlight. The wind goes glassy, the swell is solid, and it's coming from the SSE. This is one of the better windows, but it's still just a step below the best we'll see.

Sunday the 9th gets messy with a cross-onshore wind and a building swell that's a bit jumbled. The period drops back to 9 seconds, and it's not great. We'll skip that.

Monday the 10th has a clean morning with a cross-offshore wind and a nice 4ft of SSE swell at 13 seconds. That's another good one, but the afternoon gets a bit cross-shore again.

After that, the middle of the week holds some promise. Tuesday the 11th is rideable, but nothing special. The standout is Wednesday morning, August 12th. We've got 5-6ft of clean SSE swell at 12 seconds, and the wind is light and offshore. The energy is pumping at 787 (strong). This one is looking clean.

But hold on, the real gem of the whole forecast is Thursday afternoon, August 13th. The swell jumps to a solid 6ft, the period stretches way out to 15 seconds, and it's dead glassy. The energy reading is massive, at 1511 (very strong). This is proper groundswell, and it's going to be firing. The water is also a touch warmer than normal, around 66°, so it's comfortable. This is the one to circle on the calendar.

The weekend after that gets a bit mixed. Friday the 14th has another clean afternoon with some glassy conditions, but the wind is a little more on it. The energy is still up there, but it's not as clean as Thursday. Saturday the 15th gets blown out by a fresh cross-onshore wind, so it's not ideal.

Then we have a lull, a couple of days of not much. The energy drops right out again in the 47-179 range. It's looking flat.

But hold on, the long-range models are showing something interesting for Monday the 17th. The afternoon has a big 8ft east swell, but with a short 10-second period. The wind is offshore and clean, and the energy is massive at 1612 (very strong). This is big, powerful, and dumping. This one is only for the experienced. If you're a beginner, stay out of the water. This is expert territory.

The last few days of the window, the 18th through the 20th, see the swell settle down. We have some clean, glassy mornings with a mix of east and south swells in the 3-6ft range. Nothing giant, but some fun, clean waves if you're just looking to get wet.

So, to sum it up: The standout session is Thursday afternoon, August 13th, at Prainha. It's got quality, size, and perfect conditions. The Saturday morning, August 8th, and the Monday afternoon, August 17th, are also worth a look, but for different reasons. The 17th is big and powerful, not for the faint of heart. The 8th is a good solid session, but the 13th is the one with the magic.

Keep your eyes on the charts, 'cause the long-range stuff is always a bit of a gamble, but this one has some real potential.
