Prainha Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Okay folks, Rusty here. We’re looking at Prainha over the next couple of weeks. The long-range is promising some real excitement, but we’ve got to be patient. The start is pretty quiet, with a bit of a dry spell before things kick into gear.

The first few days are a write-off for any decent waves. Wednesday and Thursday are mainly small, messy, and not worth paddling out for. Friday afternoon actually brings a spike in size to nearly 5ft from the S, but the wind is howling from the SW at 16 mph, so it’s a choppy mess. That setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, honestly. We don’t get a real recommendation until late in the week.

Saturday, August 8th, is where it starts to turn. The morning is a bit junky with a 6ft SSE swell (12s period) and some cross-chop, but the afternoon is the real deal. The wind goes completely glassy, and the conditions clean up beautifully for that same 6ft SSE groundswell. This is a solid one for surfers who want clean, easy paddling conditions, though the swell is a bit overhead so it might be a handful for beginners.

Sunday is back to being poor as the wind picks up again, but Monday, August 10th, delivers a gem for the morning. You get a clean, glassy morning with a nice 4ft S swell (11s period). Perfect for a morning session. The water temp here is about what you’d expect for this time of year, so no worries there.

Now, the standouts are coming. Wednesday, August 12th is going to be a cracker for experienced crew. The morning session has a 5ft SSE groundswell with a long 12-second period, and it's clean with a light cross-offshore wind. This is proper, powerful surf. The longer period means better-shaped waves and bigger lulls between sets, perfect for a point break or reef setup. This isn’t a beginner wave at that size.

Then, hold onto your boardies, because Tuesday, August 18th is the big one. The morning brings a solid 8ft S swell. That’s big, expert-only territory. And the wind is offshore from the WNW. This is a serious, powerful swell with a 9-second period. It’s a heavy, expert-only wave for sure. The afternoon has the same size but with a cross-onshore wind, so the morning is the window to go absolutely mental.

To sum it up: the first few days are a waste. Get in the water on Saturday afternoon, August 8th, for a clean one, and lock in Wednesday morning, August 12th, for great quality. The absolute standout, the one to circle on the calendar, is the morning of Tuesday, August 18th, for the big, powerful stuff, but that’s only for the hardcore crew.
