Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the local stretch. I’m talking about Pier do Emissario here. It’s a beach and pier setup, and we’re looking at a pretty quiet run for a while, I gotta be honest with you. The water’s sitting at a warm 80°, which is about average for this time of year, nothing out of the ordinary there.
Right off the bat, the first few days are a write-off. Sunday the 5th, Monday the 6th, Tuesday the 7th – all poor. Onshore winds and small, weak swell. Wave energy is low, registering values like 147 and 171 (moderate), but the quality just isn’t there. Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are only marginal, with light cross-onshore breezes nudging tiny 2ft swell from the south. Still not worth paddling out for.
Friday the 10th is much the same – weak 3ft swell from the SSE, but the wind is messy. Honestly, the first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Saturday the 11th of July. The morning session is where it’s at. We get a glassy, flat calm – zero wind. That’s a massive positive. The swell is a modest 3ft from the SSE, with a 12-second period, giving it a bit of shape. The energy is moderate (274). It’s not gonna be a beast, but for a clean, fun little wave on the pier, that’s your best bet in this whole outlook. The wind will be on it in the afternoon though, so be an early bird.
After that, we slide back into a long patch of poor to marginal conditions right through to the 19th of July. Winds are mostly cross-onshore or onshore, keeping things choppy and uninviting. The swell hangs around 2ft to 3ft but the energy is low to moderate, never really firing.
Now, I want to flag something for the long-range. Keep an eye on Monday the 20th of July. The morning shows a 3ft south swell with a very long 20-second period. The energy jumps right up to 901 (strong). The afternoon gets even more interesting – 4ft from the south, 19-second period, and energy at 1289 (very strong). Now, that’s a proper groundswell with serious power. The wind is onshore, which is a shame, but it’s a light breeze. For a spot like this, that long-period swell could wrap in nicely, but it’s a two-week-away call, so treat it as promising but uncertain. That paddle out might be easier with the long gaps between sets. If it cleans up, that afternoon could be a standout, but it’s a wait-and-see.
So overall, the one session you don’t want to miss is the glassy Saturday morning the 11th. After that, it’s a waiting game for that potential pulse around the 20th.
