Pescador Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be real with you: the next couple of weeks at Pescador are looking pretty grim. We’re looking at a stretch of small, junky surf with onshore winds messing things up more often than not. The wave energy is weak to moderate for most of it, sitting in the low 100s to mid 200s (261, 190, 142) for the first week. It’s not looking like a time to get excited.

Wednesday morning kicks things off with a small 4ft ESE swell but with a light cross-shore breeze and a bit of rain. It’s not totally blown out, but it’s just average, nothing special. The water is sitting at 79°, which is about normal for this time of year, so don’t expect any surprises there.

The pattern holds through Thursday and Friday – mornings have that light offshore or cross-offshore wind, with small chest-high waves in the 3ft to 4ft range. The swell period is a short 7-8 seconds, so it's not going to have much push. It’s surfable, but you’ll be working for it. The afternoons are basically a write-off with onshore winds making things choppy.

The weekend, the 8th and 9th, is more of the same. A small 3ft to 3ft ESE swell with short periods. The winds are mostly onshore or cross, so I’d be looking at the early mornings if you’re desperate for a paddle. The energy stays weak, around 109-138, so it’s all about finding the cleanest lump.

The start of the next week, from the 10th through the 14th, is a real downer. The swell direction is messy, coming from the ESE and SSE, with periods still short. The winds are predominantly cross-onshore or onshore, making for bumpy, uninviting conditions. Most of the guidance points to poor surf conditions. The wave energy, while a bit higher at times, is not creating any quality.

Now, for the one and only standout in this whole window: it’s the morning of Saturday, August 15th. The wind is looking light and offshore from the NNE, the sky is clear, and that’s the recipe for some clean conditions. The swell is a solid 3ft ESE with a much longer period of 13 seconds. The wave energy jumps up to a strong 375. This is the day to make your move. That long-period groundswell is gonna have some proper shape to it, and that light offshore wind should keep the faces clean.

The afternoon of the 15th and the morning of the 16th will still have some size, with the swell reading 4ft and 4ft, and a 13- and 12-second period, but the wind swings onshore or cross, making it messy. The energy actually builds to a strong 623 in the afternoon, but it's all for nothing with the chop.

Then we get to the 17th, and it’s a big red flag. The morning shows a 10ft SSE swell with an 8-second period. That’s a massive, short-period mess. The combined energy is a huge 1393, which is way too much for this spot. Honestly, this looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. It’s not a beginner day at all, and even for experts, the short period on a big swell at a sandbar/river mouth is going to be a washing machine.

After that, the 18th and 19th see the swell drop but the winds stay poor, with a lot of cross-onshore flow. The energy is still moderate, around 379-498, but the quality is lacking. The window runs out with small, junky surf and onshore winds.

So, there it is. One decent morning in the whole two weeks. Mark your calendar for August 15th, be on it early, and don't hold your breath for much else.
