Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perran Sands over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about what’s coming up on the North Coast. I’m gonna be straight with you – it’s gonna be a long wait. The first week and a half is pretty much a write-off for any decent surf. We’ve got some small, weak swells wobbling in, but the wind is all over the place and the energy is just not there. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 64°, so that’s a nice little bonus for the waiting game.
The first real glimmer of hope shows up on Monday, July 20th. It’s not a classic, but there’s a surfable wave with some clean conditions in the morning. You’ll be looking at a 4ft swell from the west with a light cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is moderate (157), so it’s not a full-on day, but it’s a start.
Now, Tuesday, July 21st is where things get interesting. The morning has a 5ft swell from the west with a 9-second period, clean cross-off wind, and the combined energy jumps up to 487. That’s strong energy. The afternoon gets even better. The swell drops just a hair to 4ft from the west-northwest, but the wind goes light and cross-off, the period holds at 9 seconds, and the energy is still high at 455. This is the standout. Perran Sands is a reef break, and with that west-northwest swell, it should be lining up nicely. The water is still a touch warmer than average, so you’ll be comfortable. Expect crowds are possible, but it’s a fairly consistent spot, so you’ll get your share.
After that, the surf drops off again. Wednesday, July 22nd sees a 3ft swell from the west-northwest with clean conditions, but the energy is moderate (203) and it’s just ordinary. The rest of the week and into the next is a mix of weak, small, and messy swells, nothing to write home about. Sunday, July 26th has a bigger 6ft swell from the west-northwest, but it’s short period (7 seconds) and the wind is tricky. That’s a mushy, choppy mess for the most part – probably more fun for a kite than a paddle.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a dud. The best bet is Monday, July 20th for a surfable wave, but Tuesday, July 21st is the clear winner. Get out there in the afternoon for the best shot at clean, lined-up waves at Perran Sands.
