The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for our stretch of coast.
Honestly, looking at the next 16 days, it’s a pretty grim picture for Perran Sands (Perran-Sands). We’re staring down the barrel of a long, quiet spell. The first real surfable window doesn’t show up until Monday morning, 21st July, and even then, it’s nothing to write home about. We’ve got a long gap of quiet conditions before that.
The water is hanging around 64°F right now, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – a little silver lining.
Let’s break it down. From Friday 17th right through to Sunday 20th, it’s all poor surf with nothing doing. The waves are tiny, the wind is all wrong, and it’s just messy. Get the fishing rod out instead.
Then Monday morning, 21st July, we finally see a glimmer. We’ve got a tiny 2ft swell from the NNW, with a weak energy reading (67). The wind is a gentle cross-off from the ENE, which cleans things up nicely. The sets are going to be small and weak with a period of only 6 seconds, so it’s really just for the foamies and longboards.
The rest of that week and into the next is a constant battle of poor conditions. The wind just won’t play nice, mostly cross-on from the north, and the swell stays small and weak. There’s a period around Monday 27th July where the swell height jumps up to 7ft to 7ft, with moderate wave energy (397 to 514), but it’s coming with onshore winds from the NW. That’s a lot of water moving around with no shape to it – it’s going to be a bumpy, blown-out mess. That setup is more interesting for the kite surfers than paddle surfing.
The whole 16-day window is a write-off for any kind of quality surf. The consistency is poor, and there’s no standout day. The best we’ve got is that small, cleanish window on Monday 21st, but even that’s a stretch. It’s just one of those blank runs for the area - forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a quiet one.
Rusty.
