Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perran Sands over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down what's on the way.
It's a slow start, and we're in for a long wait before anything with real energy shows up. Right now, the best we've got is a small, clean window coming up.
Friday 10th July – The morning at Perran Sands is the pick of the first week. We're looking at a 3ft swell from the west, with a 9-second period. The wind is light and cross-offshore, so it's going to be glassy clean. The water is a touch warmer than usual, at 62°F. The energy is on the weak side (135), so it's just little, fun waves for the beginners. The afternoon is similar, just a bit smaller. It's surfable, but it's nothing special.
Saturday 11th July – The morning drops to a tiny 2ft, and the afternoon gets a short-period bump from the north, but it's messy. The wind is still cross-off, but it's not coming together.
Sunday 12th July through to Monday 20th July – This is the tough stretch. We're looking at a long run of days with poor surf. The energy will be weak, mostly under 100, and the winds will be a mix of onshore and cross-off that just won't clean it up. Some days have swell over 3ft, but the wind is straight onshore from the northwest, making it lumpy and choppy. By Saturday 18th July, the swell jumps to 5ft from the west with a moderate energy reading (422), but the onshore wind is 12-15 mph, so it's a mess. That's a kite surfer's dream, not a paddle surfer's.
Monday 20th July – This is the only real standout, and it's a full ten days out. The swell is up to 5ft from the west-northwest, and the energy is strong (316). The wind is a cross-onshore from the north at 15 mph, so it's going to be a bit choppy. This is solid size for the spot, and at 5ft, it's expert territory, too big for beginners. The period is a short 8 seconds, so it'll be a bit of a washing machine, but the power is there. It's a promising but less certain call this far out.
After that, it drops back into the 3ft range through to the 24th, with the wind staying onshore or cross-onshore, keeping the quality low.
So, to be honest, the best bet is that Friday 10th July morning for a clean, gentle paddle, and the only real swell of note is that Monday 20th, but it's going to be a fight with the wind. Don't hold your breath on this one.
Rusty.
