The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for our local stretch. Gotta be straight with you – the next week or so is a bit of a tough pill to swallow. We’ve got a long, drawn-out run of small, messy, or just plain ugly conditions before things finally start looking up.
Right now, we’re in a waiting game. From Sunday the 23rd through to Wednesday the 2nd of September, it’s a wasteland. The swell is tiny, mostly around 0.7 ft to 2 ft, and when it does bump up a touch, the wind is all wrong – cross-off, onshore, or just too strong. Don’t bother paddling out; you’ll just get frustrated.
Thursday the 3rd of September is where things finally start to turn. Perran Sands wakes up with a clean 5 ft swell out of the west, with a light breeze keeping things tidy. The energy is moderate at best, so don’t expect much push, but it’s surfable after all that nothing.
Now, Friday the 4th of September is the real standout. We’re looking at a solid 5 ft west swell, with a bit more period. The wind is light and cross-off in the morning, and the wave energy jumps up nicely. This is the best bet for a proper session – clean lines, decent shape, and you won’t be fighting a howling wind. It’s a reef break, so it’ll hold that swell well, but keep in mind it’s fairly exposed and crowds are sometimes a thing.
Sunday the 6th of September gets a mention, but with caution. The afternoon shows a big 8 ft west swell with strong energy. That’s expert territory – way too much for beginners. The wind is cross-off and clean, so for the crew with big balls and big boards, it could be a wild, heavy session.
So, to wrap it up: don't bother for the first week. Friday the 4th is your best shot for a quality, fun day. The 6th is for the experienced crew only.
Rusty.
