Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perran Sands over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a tough one to call. The next 16 days are looking pretty grim for Perran Sands. We’ve got a long dry spell ahead with no real surf to speak of until nearly the end of July. The water is sitting at 64°F and a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only positive.
For the first week and a half, from Saturday 11 July through to Monday 20 July, it’s a wasteland. Tiny dribbles of swell, mostly under 3ft, and poor conditions across the board. The combined energy is weak, barely cracking 100 (often sitting in the 20s to 80s), so it’s not even worth paddling out. The wind is a constant cross-off or cross-on mess, and it’s just not happening. This is a long stretch with nothing to recommend.
Things start to get a bit more interesting from Tuesday 21 July, but it's still not good. The swell picks up a little, but the wind is on it hard. The energy jumps into the moderate range (194 to 430), but with fresh cross and cross-on winds, the surf is lumpy, choppy, and messy. Definitely not one for the log.
The real standout, if you can call it that, is on Saturday 25 July. We’ve got a solid 10ft swell from the WNW with a 9-second period, and the combined energy is massive at 1274. That’s a lot of power. But the wind is a fresh cross-shore, making it lumpy and choppy. For a reef break like Perran Sands, that’s expert territory only. The swell size is over 8ft, so beginners, stay well clear. There’s a chance the sets are a bit more manageable on Sunday 26 July morning when it drops to 5ft, but the wind is still fresh cross-shore with rain showers. Don’t expect perfection.
Overall, this is a poor run. The setup here looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for most of this period. It’s a blank run that’s pretty normal for the area, but forecasts can change. Keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
