Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let me level with you – the next two weeks at Perran Sands are slim pickings. We’ve got a long stretch of poor conditions, and the first real chance to surf doesn’t roll in until Thursday, July 9th, so plan on waiting nearly a week.
For the only half-decent window, head out on Thursday morning, July 9th. The wind goes light from the ENE at just 3 mph, blowing cross-offshore, making the ocean glassy. The swell is tiny – only 2 ft from the west, period 9 seconds, with a combined energy of 89 (moderate). It’s small and weak, but clean – perfect for a beginner on a longboard. The afternoon holds similar vibes with a light breeze.
Before that, from Saturday July 4th through Wednesday July 8th, it’s all onshore, choppy, and flat – no scores at all. Water temp anomaly isn’t given here, so nothing unusual to call out.
After that brief window, it gets messy again. On Friday, July 10th, we get a strong offshore breeze from the ESE at 25 mph, but the swell is still only 2–3 ft and the combined energy drops to 83–112. Clean but too weak to ride. The second week is a total write-off – onshore winds, short-period windswell, and combined energy values in the 30s to 60s, which is basically flat. By Sunday, July 19th, it’s 2 ft from the north with a 4-second period and combined energy of just 33 (weak). Not worth the paddle.
So here’s the call: if you’re keen, take that Thursday the 9th for a clean, quiet session on the small west swell. Otherwise, it’s a long, quiet spell. Perran Sands is a fairly consistent reef break, but this stretch is a true lull.
Rusty.
