The Lowdown

Alright, let’s have a look at what’s coming up for us here.

First off, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and grim for a proper surf. There’s a real dry spell on the cards. From now through to the 29th of July, we’re mostly seeing tiny, weak swells with poor to average winds. Not much to get excited about at all.

The water temp at Perran Sands is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s one small comfort if you’re just floating around.

The first hint of anything worthwhile doesn’t show up until the morning of the 29th of July. We’ve got a small 3ft swell from the WSW, mixed with a light offshore breeze from the SSE. That’s a clean setup, but the wave energy is still weak and the waves are just surfable – nothing special. The afternoon sees a pulse to 4ft from the west, but it’s onshore and messy, so not worth chasing.

Now, the real standout – and I mean the only one worth circling on the calendar – is the morning of the 31st of July. That Friday morning, we’ve got a solid 6ft swell rolling in from the west, with a 10-second period and a clean cross-offshore wind from the SSW. The combined energy is strong, so there’s some proper push behind it. That’s the best we’ve got – a decent, clean groundswell with good shape potential. The wave direction matches the break’s optimum (W), so it’s lining up nicely. Keep in mind, though, this is over a week away, so treat it as promising but not locked in yet.

The afternoon of the 31st drops back to 5ft and gets lumpy with a strong cross-shore, so the morning is definitely the window.

Overall, it’s a long wait for just one decent session. If you’re patient, the 31st morning is your best bet. Otherwise, it’s a lot of small, choppy, or wind-affected days. The surf’s been stubborn, but it never stays this way forever.

Stay keen,
Rusty
