Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perran Sands over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the surf on the horizon. We’ve got one spot to talk about, and it’s a bit of a wait before anything gets going.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet start for Perran Sands. The first two weeks are a lean run with nothing but small, messy waves. You’ll see tiny bumps here and there, but the wind is all over the place and the conditions just aren’t putting anything rideable on the table. It’s a long dry spell until we finally see a pulse of energy.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Thursday, July 24th during the afternoon. A 4ft swell from the W with a clean, light offshore wind from the ENE turns things glassy, but it is on the small side. The energy is moderate at best (176), so while it’s surfable, it’s nothing to write home about.
But the standout here is Monday, July 27th. The morning session is where it’s at. We see a solid 10ft swell from the W with a period of 10 seconds, pumping very strong energy in at 1446. That’s a proper lump of ocean. However, it’s big – over 8ft – so this is strictly for the experienced crew. The wind is light from the WNW, so it should be clean. The big caveat is a 10-second period at a reef break like Perran Sands means the waves will have some punch but won’t be the ultra-long, walling lines you get from a real groundswell. It’s a powerful, heavy wave for those who can handle it.
The afternoon of that same day sees the swell drop to 8ft, but the wind swings to a cross-onshore from the NNW, which will chop things up pretty quickly.
Also, just a heads up on the water temp: on the 12th it was sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – not a major shock, but a little bit of a pleasant surprise.
So, the long and short of it: a whole lot of nothing for two weeks, then a big, expert-only day on the 27th morning. Don’t hold your breath before that.
