Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perran Sands over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for Perran Sands.
Right off the bat, I’ve gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead. The first solid recommendation isn’t until Friday the 10th, and even then, it’s nothing to get overly excited about. The whole outlook is a lean run, with several gaps of days where there’s just nothing worth paddling out for.
We kick off on Friday morning, July 10th. Perran Sands is seeing a small W swell around 3ft, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 134. The water temp is 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. We’ve got a light E breeze, so it’s cross-off and clean – that’s a positive. But the waves are just ordinary, small and a bit weak. Friday afternoon is much the same with 3ft.
Saturday the 11th drops off, and from there we hit a real dead zone. From Sunday the 12th right the way through to Tuesday the 21st, the scores are flat – poor conditions, messy winds, and tiny swell. There’s a brief flicker on Tuesday the 21st afternoon with a 4ft WNW swell and a bit more energy (279), but it’s onshore and lumpy – marginal at best.
Now, if you’re patient, there’s a potential standout brewing. Wednesday morning, July 22nd, brings a clean window. We’ve got a 4ft W groundswell with a period of 9 seconds and moderate energy (259). The wind swings light SSE, giving us offshore conditions – glassy, clean waves. This is the best on offer for the whole period. The swell direction matches the optimum from the west, and with that light offshore wind, Perran Sands should clean up nicely. It’s a reef break that’s fairly consistent and beginner-friendly at this size.
After that, it gets messy again. Thursday the 23rd is cross-onshore and choppy. Friday the 24th sees a pulse of 6ft from the WSW but with onshore wind, so it’s a no-go.
Heading into the second week, the last real mention is Saturday, July 25th. We’ve got a solid 6ft W swell with a 9-second period and strong energy (503), but it’s onshore from the NW. The wave quality will be poor, so this one’s more for the hardy souls or the kite crew – the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, to wrap it up: the only true standout is Wednesday morning, July 22nd. Get on it if you can. The rest of the 16 days is a lot of waiting and watching. It’s a lean run, but forecasts can change – keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
