The Lowdown
Right then, let's have a look at what's ahead for Perran Sands.
Honestly, this is a bit of a grim stretch for this reef break. We've got a long, frustrating run of small, messy waves and poor conditions stretching from now right through most of the period. There's nothing on the cards that's really worth paddling out for until the very end, and that's still a long way off. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which feels a touch warmer than usual for this time of year.
The first real glimmer of anything comes on Tuesday the 21st, with the morning session offering some surfable waves, but they're ordinary at best. You're looking at a weak 3ft swell from the NNW, and the combined energy is a pathetic 77. The wind is light and cross-off, so it will be clean, but there's no grunt in the water. After that, we're straight back into a run of nothingness for days.
Everything else is just poor surf conditions, with onshore and cross-onshore winds ruining any chance of decent shape. Swells are tiny, mostly below 3ft, and the periods are short and weak. This is the sort of setup that would be far more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, if I'm being honest.
Now, if you're desperate and willing to wait, there's a bit of a pulse showing right at the very end of the outlook. On Thursday the 30th of July, the swell is forecast to build to 5ft from the west, with combined energy hitting 188. That's the biggest energy we'll see. The period is still a short 6 seconds though, and the wind is cross-onshore or onshore, so it'll be messy. It's not a standout, but it's the closest thing we've got to a wave. It'll likely be too big and messy for the beginners, but if you're an expert and just need to get wet, it's something.
Really, the whole two weeks is a write-off. There are no good options. That's just how it goes here sometimes. The forecasts can change, but for now, don't hold your breath.
