The Lowdown
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on offer.
Honestly, mate, it’s a flat spell. We’re lookin’ at a long stretch of tiny, weak surf that just ain’t gonna do much for anyone on a paddleboard. The first real chance to even think about it doesn’t show up till Monday the 14th of July, and even then, it’s just ankle-snappers.
Monday July 14th, Tuesday July 15th & Wednesday July 16th
We’re talkin’ 1ft of swell from the ESE with a short period of 8 seconds. The energy is weak, sitting at just 16 to 19 (combined energy). There’s a moment Monday afternoon where the wind goes glassy, and Tuesday and Wednesday mornings have clean conditions with light offshore or cross-off breezes. The water’s a warm 86°, which is about 2° warmer than usual for this time of year – nice for a dip, but not for a wave. It’s just too small.
Thursday July 17th through Saturday July 26th
The pattern doesn’t really change. We’re stuck in a rut of 0.7ft to 2ft swell, mostly from the east or southeast, with periods that barely hit 9 seconds. The energy levels are still low, mostly in the teens and twenties, with a few readings pushing into the 40s and 70s, but that’s still weak. A few mornings show clean, glassy or offshore conditions, like Saturday July 19th morning or Sunday July 26th morning, but the swell is so tiny it’s basically a lake. Wednesday July 23rd and Thursday July 24th mornings have a bit more size, up to 2ft and 2ft, with 7-second periods and clean offshore wind, but the wave comment is still “poor surf conditions” – under 3ft and short period just doesn’t cut it.
Sunday July 27th & Monday July 28th
The last few days see a similar story. Sunday morning has 2ft at 9 seconds with glassy conditions, which is the best look of the whole forecast, but it’s still tiny. The energy creeps up to 74, which is the highest in the window, but for a sandbar break like Perkins, that long-period-ish 9-second swell will be pretty straight. It might offer a knee-high wave for the most patient soul.
Bottom line: there are no standouts here. The consistent theme is weak swell and poor surf quality. For a beginner-friendly sandbar, it’s a good time to practice paddle technique or just enjoy the warm water. For anyone looking for a proper session, it’s a no-go. The setup looks far more interesting for a kite than a surfboard for most of this period.
