Table - best surf conditions forecast for Newport Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into what’s cookin’ for the next stretch. Honestly, if you’re itching to paddle out, you’re gonna have to dig deep for some patience. The first week to ten days are looking pretty flat and messy. There’s a long gap where the surf just isn’t on, followed by a couple of later dates that finally start to show a pulse.
The first real chance for a splash is Wednesday, the 19th of July, and that’s our standout. Before that, from the 8th right through to the 18th, it’s a write-off. The swell’s tiny, the winds are mostly cross or cross-on, and the reports are all poor. You’d be better off cleaning the wax off your board.
For that Wednesday morning, let’s talk about Newport Beach. It’s a river mouth setup, sheltered from a bunch of directions, but we’re getting a clean little pulse from the SW. Swell height is a meek 2ft, but the magic is in the wind. We’ve got glassy, nearly dead-calm conditions – a glassy surface is a massive win here. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual. The combined swell energy is moderate (406), so there’s a bit of push behind it. It’s small, but it’s clean, and it’ll be a fun little wave for the beginners on their logs. That is the one window to get a proper trim before the wind comes up in the arvo.
From Thursday the 20th onwards, it gets a little more energetic, but the wind turns bad again. The swell builds to 3ft from the S on the Monday morning, but a cross-onshore breeze just chops it all up. That combined energy hits 616, but it’s wasted. Tuesday’s the same story – a bit of height but poor conditions.
So, to sum it up: a long, dry first 11 days, then one morning of glassy, small waves for the patient surfers. The rest is a fight against onshore wind. Not our finest run, but that one morning might be worth the wait.
Rusty.
