The Lowdown

Alright, folks, Rusty here again. Let's be real—the next 16 days are looking pretty flat and quiet. The swell window is just not cooperating, with most days showing small, weak energy and a lot of cross-onshore wind. The overall pattern is one of very small, often messy surf, so you'll have to be patient.

Let's start with the first bit of action. On Wednesday morning, August 19th, we've got a small 3 ft SSW groundswell rolling in at a long 15 seconds. The water temp is sitting at 70°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The wind is light offshore from the SSW, making for some clean conditions, but the wave comment sums it up best: "poor surf conditions." The combined energy is weak, only 327 (moderate energy). It's small, but at least it's clean.

The rest of the first week is a bit of a write-off. From Thursday, August 20th, through to Monday, August 24th, we're looking at tiny waves under 2 ft, with period dropping into the 13-14 second range and mostly cross-onshore breezes. The energy stays weak, between 125 and 363 (moderate energy). It's a lot of choppy, unappealing conditions.

The outlook doesn't improve much for the second week. Tuesday, August 25th through to Friday, August 28th remains very small, with heights around 1 ft to 2 ft and cross-onshore winds. Not much to get excited about.

Then, on Saturday, August 29th, things perk up a little. We get a jump to 3 ft SSW swell with a 17-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 649 (moderate to strong). The morning wind is light offshore from the WSW, so it could be clean. The wave comment is "marginal surf forecast" – not great, but the best we've seen. Sunday, August 30th, is similar, with a 4 ft SSW swell and 571 (moderate to strong) energy. The wind is light cross-onshore from the south, but it's still marginal.

After that, we slide back into small, weak surf through the beginning of September. The last entry on Thursday, September 3rd, is just 2 ft from the SSW with 249 (moderate) energy.

Look, if you're desperate, the early morning hours on the 29th and 30th of August might be worth a paddle for the slightly bigger, longer-period swell and light winds. But honestly, this is a quiet stretch. The breaks here are fairly consistent, so it won't stay this flat forever, but for now, the board is staying on the racks.

Rusty.
