Table - best surf conditions forecast for Newport Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Newport Beach over the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it’s a pretty bleak stretch. The whole 16-day forecast is a long run of poor surf conditions. From Friday the 10th right through to at least Friday the 24th, there’s nothing that even gets close to a decent ride. That’s a solid two-week gap with no real recommendations. The waves are small, the wind is often cross-on, and the energy just isn’t there.
The first sign of anything worth paddling out for shows up on the morning of Saturday the 18th. The swell bumps up to 2ft from the SW, with a very long period of 18 seconds. That’s groundswell energy, and the combined energy reading is 497 (moderate). The wind is light and onshore, which is glassy, so it’ll be clean. But it’s a marginal call – the tide might not be playing ball and the swell is still tiny. That morning window is the only real standout, and it’s a long way off, so keep an eye on it but don’t get your hopes up.
The morning of Sunday the 19th sees a 3ft swell from the S, period 13 seconds, with light onshore wind. The combined energy jumps to 582 (moderate), but the surf is still rated poor. It’s not enough to get excited about.
The only other slight uptick is on the morning of Saturday the 25th, well into the second week. A 3ft swell from the W, but it’s a short period of 8 seconds – that’s weak windswell, with cross-on winds from the S at 9 mph. The energy is 223 (moderate), but the quality is poor. Not worth a special trip.
In short, the best you’re looking at is a fleeting, glassy but small window on the morning of Saturday the 18th. Everything else is a write-off. Newport Beach is a sheltered river-mouth setup, so it’s not a total shocker when the swell dries up, but this is a long, quiet spell. Grab a skateboard or a book, because the surf isn’t cooperating.
