The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cooking for 40th Street.

Right off the bat, this is a tough one. Looking at the whole 16-day window, there's really nothing to get excited about for a surf. Most of the time the wave comment is straight-up "poor surf conditions," and the scores reflect that. We're talking about a real dry spell here.

The water is sitting at a very warm 73°F, which is a massive 7° warmer than usual for this time of year. That's a real anomaly, practically feels like bathwater compared to what you'd normally expect.

The first few days are a write-off. You've got a tiny 1ft swell from the SSW with weak energy, barely breaking 100 on the energy scale. The only decent thing is the wind is light, but it's onshore or cross-onshore, so the surface is going to be messy.

Things stay flat and tiny right through the first week. The swell height barely nudges above 2ft until the 9th of August. Even then, the quality is still rated as poor. The energy starts to build a bit around the 7th into the 8th, hitting the 300s, but with a cross-onshore wind, it's not going to be clean.

The most promising period is the second weekend. On Saturday, the 15th of August, we finally see a marginal surf forecast. The morning looks best with an onshore wind from the WSW at just 3 mph, almost glassy. The swell is 3ft from the SSW with a moderate energy of 492, and it's been long enough to be a proper groundswell. That's your best window. The afternoon gets choppy again with a cross-onshore wind.

Sunday the 16th and Monday the 17th hold onto some 2-3ft swell, but the wind turns cross-onshore again, so it's back to being a bit of a mess.

So, the one standout here is the morning of Saturday, the 15th of August. With those light winds and a bit of long-period energy, it might just offer a couple of rideable, clean waves. Get it while you can because the rest of the outlook is a real struggle.

Signing off,
Rusty
