The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this next couple of weeks at Moruya Rivermouth is mostly a flat, quiet affair. The start of the period is a real snoozer with no surf worth paddling for. You’re looking at a solid run of days with tiny, weak waves – barely a ripple – and a lot of onshore or cross-shore breeze messing up what little there is. It’s not until the morning of Wednesday the 26th that we finally see a pulse of energy, and honestly, that’s the only real standout in the whole outlook.
So, let’s get to it. Wednesday the 26th morning is the one to circle. The swell jumps up to 5ft from the south, with a short period of 8 seconds, but the combined energy is moderate to strong (597). The real kicker is the wind. It’s a clean cross-off from the WSW at 9 mph, which will keep the surface tidy. This is a solid, surfable wave, but at 5ft, it’s getting into that zone where it’s a bit much for beginners. For everyone else, this is the best session on offer. The water temperature is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might not need the thickest wetsuit.
After that, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The morning of Saturday the 29th brings a 5ft NE swell (211 combined energy) with a clean cross-off breeze from the SSW at 9 mph – that’s another decent option, but it’s not as strong as the Wednesday morning pulse. The swell direction is from the NE, which isn’t quite the optimum SE direction for this spot, so it won’t be as well-shaped. Later that afternoon, the wind picks up to 16 mph, making it a write-off. Sunday the 30th morning has a similar story: 6ft NE swell (523 combined energy) but with a strong 16 mph cross-off, creating messy conditions.
The rest of the outlook is a long stretch of small, weak waves. The morning of Monday the 31st offers a glassy 3ft NE swell from the SW, but it’s pretty ordinary. After that, we’re back into tiny, onshore chop until the end of the forecast. The consistency is fair, but the quality is mostly poor. It’s one of those stretches where you’ve got to pick your window carefully.
Rusty.
