G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's comin' up for the South Coast.
It's a bit of a mixed bag for the next couple of weeks, but there's definitely some good spells in there. We've got a river-mouth set-up that likes an SE swell, so we’ll be watching that closely.
The action kicks off Saturday the 4th, but it's pretty ordinary. The morning has tiny 2ft S swell with a short 7-second period, and combined energy is a weak 65. The water's a touch warmer than normal at 64°, which is a nice change. It's glassy early, but the waves are just too small and weak to get excited about. The afternoon blows out with a cross-onshore wind, so better to skip it.
Sunday the 5th is where things start building. The morning sees a solid 8ft S swell, 10-second period, with a strong combined energy of 1745. The wind is cross-offshore, keeping it clean. This is getting a bit big for beginners, but for the experienced crew, it's shaping up to be a good session. The afternoon holds at 7ft from the SSE, still with that strong energy at 1016, and clean again.
Monday the 6th is the hidden gem. The morning offers a really nice 6ft SSE swell, 9-second period, and the combined energy is a solid 651. Winds are light and cross-off, making for clean, fun waves. This is a beauty of a session for a wide range of surfers. The afternoon goes a bit lumpy with a cross-shore wind.
Tuesday the 7th keeps the fun going. The morning has 6ft SE swell, 10-second period, with clean conditions and moderate energy at 816. It's a good, solid option. The afternoon jumps to 8ft with a 10-second period and a combined energy of 2333 – that's powerful stuff, but the cross-shore wind will chop it up a bit.
Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are both strong. Wednesday morning has 7ft SE swell, 10-second period, light winds, and an energy of 896. Thursday morning has 5ft SE swell with the same good setup, and by Thursday afternoon it's glassy with 6ft SE swell. Clean, consistent conditions across the board.
Friday the 10th morning is magic. 6ft SE swell, 10-second period, and glassy conditions with an energy of 690. That's a standout session. The afternoon gets a cross-onshore wind, so get in early.
Then it fades. Saturday the 11th drops to 4ft, Sunday the 12th to 3ft, and from there we have a long lull through to Thursday the 16th with tiny, weak swells and no real energy. It's a flat spell for a good five days.
Friday the 17th is flat, but there's a whisper in the long range. Saturday the 18th afternoon shows a big pulse coming: a 10ft S swell, 8-second period, with offshore wind and a combined energy of 1247. That's a lot of water, and it's going to be too big for Moruya Rivermouth – this spot won't handle it. By Sunday the 19th morning, it's even bigger at 12ft SSE swell with an energy of 4521 and offshore wind, and the afternoon goes glassy with 10ft SSE swell and an energy of 3427. These are expert-only conditions and even then, the river-mouth isn't the place for it. It's more of a spectacle than a surfable option here.
So if you're looking for the best, get out early Friday the 10th for that glassy 6ft SE swell. The next best bet is Monday the 6th morning with clean 6ft SSE swell. The big stuff on the 18th and 19th is powerful but completely unsuited to this break.
Stay tuned, tides and winds can always shift.
Rusty.
