Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Looks like we’ve got a bit of a slow start along this stretch, but there’s some solid action brewing for those who can wait. The first real window doesn’t kick off until Wednesday the 8th, so the next day or so is pretty much a write-off.
The standout for the whole run is without a doubt Wednesday the 22nd, even though it’s a long way off. The swell will be massive, with combined wave energy through the roof (3327), but that comes with a big caveat. For the Moruya Rivermouth, a river break, the forecast swell of 13 ft from the SE is well over the 8 ft mark, so this is strictly for experts only. The wind is offshore and light, which would make conditions clean, but the sheer size will make it a heavy, challenging day. If you’re a seasoned local with the right board, circle that date – it’s the most powerful swell on offer.
Before that, the best bet for a decent, manageable session is Thursday morning the 9th. We’ve got 4 ft of ESE swell, glassy conditions, and combined wave energy at 539 – moderate but solid enough. It’s a river mouth, so the longish 11-second period should wrap in nicely, giving some shape. Water temp is 63°, which is about a degree Fahrenheit warmer than your average for this time of year – pretty nice, actually. Crowds are listed as “sometimes,” so you might have a few mates out, but nothing crazy.
Wednesday morning the 8th is also worth a paddle if you can duck out of work. SW wind 6 mph gives a cross-off breeze, cleaning up the 7 ft SE swell. The energy is moderate (1045), and it’s a decent size for a river mouth – could be fun for experienced surfers, but maybe a bit much for beginners.
The second week is pretty patchy. After the 9th, the surf drops away quickly. Thursday the 16th morning offers a glassy 3 ft from the south with 338 energy – a small, clean option. Friday the 17th morning is similar, with 5 ft SSE, glassy, and 426 energy. Both are okay, but nothing to get excited about.
From the 11th through the 15th, it’s mostly flat or tiny, with a few days of clean conditions but barely a ripple. The gap between the 9th and the 16th is about a week of pretty ordinary surf.
Then we get that big spike on the 22nd. The swell drops again after that, and the wind on the 21st is howling offshore at 22 mph, but the swell is short-period and small, so it’s not worth it.
Overall, the pick of the run is Thursday the 9th morning for a clean, fun session, and Wednesday the 22nd morning for the big, expert-level bommie. Keep an eye on that long-range one – it’s promising but a long way out.
Rusty.
