The Lowdown
Alright mates, Rusty checkin’ in. It’s a bit of a slow starter for the first week, but the back half of July has a real treat, even if the spot might be a bit too exposed for the biggest push.
Saturday the 18th is a total flat spell. We’re lookin’ at a tiny 1ft S swell with barely any energy (47). Just don’t bother.
Sunday the 19th is the one to circle. The morning is glassy with a 4ft ENE swell, a nice 12-second period, and the energy is pumping (555). That’s your pick of the period. Clean, lined up, and empty. The afternoon gets a bit messy with a cross-breeze on the 6ft swell.
Monday the 20th is a solid follow-up. Glassy again in the morning with a 5ft ENE swell (610). The afternoon stays good with the same swell at 5ft, still glassy (669). Two days of clean, fun waves.
After that, it’s a slow grind. The swell drops, the periods get shorter, and the conditions turn ordinary. We get a little bump on Thursday the 23rd with a 4ft S swell, but it’s only a 6-second period, so it’s just a lumpy mess. The energy is low (153).
Then we hit the end of the month. Friday the 31st of July is a monster. The forecast is showing a massive 12ft S swell with a 12-second period, and the energy is an insane 5446. It’s glassy in the morning, but that’s way too big for Moruya Rivermouth. The guidance says the swell is too big for this break. It’s over 8ft, so it’s experts only, and even then, it’ll be a closeout. It’s a spectacle.
Saturday the 1st of August backs off to a much more friendly 4ft SE swell, with a long 12-second period and clean conditions (876). That’s a cracking day. But then Sunday the 2nd of August, we’re back to the 12ft S swell, and the same problem – just too big.
So, the real standout is the glassy morning on Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th, with that 4ft to 5ft ENE groundswell. That’s your classic, clean winter session. The big swell at the end is a sight to see, but it’s a day for the camera, not the board.
Rusty.
