The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s see what the next couple of weeks have in store for us at the Moruya Rivermouth. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but there are definitely some windows to get wet.
The overall pattern shows a slow start with tiny, weak swell, then a build into a decent run of chest-to-head-high energy from the east-northeast around the middle of next week. The standout period looks to be from the 19th of July through to the 23rd, with the best conditions falling on the 20th and 23rd. Water temps are sitting about average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.
The first bit of action worth getting out of bed for looks like Wednesday morning, the 15th of July. We’ve got a 3ft swell from the south, but it’s only a short 7-second period, so the energy is moderate (115). The wind is light offshore from the west at 3 mph, making it glassy and clean. It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about.
Thursday morning, the 16th of July, is a step up. Swell is 4ft from the south, period still short at 8 seconds, but the combined energy is moderate (229). A light cross-offshore breeze from the west-southwest at 6 mph keeps it clean. It’s a solid “good” call.
Now, the real highlight kicks off on Sunday morning, the 19th of July. Swell swings around to the east-northeast, coming in at 3ft with a 9-second period and moderate energy (211). The wind is glassy, light from the northwest at 3 mph. That combo is going to produce some fun, clean walls.
The absolute best on offer is Monday morning, the 20th of July. Swell bumps up to 4ft from the east-northeast, still with a 9-second period, and the energy jumps to 398 (strong). A light cross-offshore breeze from the north-northwest at 6 mph keeps it clean. This is the pick of the fortnight. The river mouth should be running nicely with that east-northeast swell.
Tuesday morning, the 21st of July, is also good. Swell holds at 4ft from the east-northeast, 10-second period, and strong energy (310). A light cross-offshore from the south-southwest at 3 mph. Clean again.
Thursday morning, the 23rd of July, is another standout. The swell is 5ft from the east-northeast, 10-second period, and the energy is strong (416). The wind is cross-offshore from the northwest at 6 mph, keeping it clean. This is a bit more size, so it’ll be more for the experienced crew, but it’s a cracking forecast.
After that, from the 24th onwards, the swell slowly drops back. The 24th morning still has a clean 3ft, but by the 25th and 26th we’re back into the small stuff with weak energy. Late in the second week, there’s a bit of a bump on the 29th with 4ft from the east-northeast, but the wind is up and the quality is marginal.
The crowds can be an issue at the Rivermouth, especially on the good days, so get in early if you want a peak to yourself.
Stay stoked.
Rusty.
