Table - best surf conditions forecast for Moruya Rivermouth over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for the next couple of weeks.
First up, the river mouth is looking a bit sleepy for the next few days. Thursday afternoon is a write-off – messy cross-on wind and only marginal conditions. The water temp is sitting at 63°F, which is about 2°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so nothing too wild there.
Things start to get interesting Friday morning (10th July). The wind swings glassy from the WNW, and we’ve got a clean 4ft SE swell pumping in with moderate energy (366). That’s your best bet for the early part of the window – a nice, clean session for the beginner-friendly crowd. The swell period is 9 seconds, so it’s a decent short-period groundswell, but nothing too tricky. Crowds are possible here, so get in early.
Saturday morning (11th) still looks okay with a smaller 3ft ESE swell and clean conditions, but the energy drops off (234). Saturday afternoon, the swell gets long-period (11 seconds) and small, so it might get a bit too straight for the beach break. Not the best.
From Sunday (12th) right through to Wednesday (15th), the surf goes flat. Tiny waves, poor conditions, and energy readings in the single digits. Nothing to write home about. A real gap in the action.
Now, Thursday 16th July – hold onto your board. The swell jumps to 10ft from the SSE, with a period of 8 seconds. That’s massive energy (1364), but it’s too big for the river mouth. This is expert-only territory, and even then, the break is likely to be a washing machine. The wind is light and clean in the morning, but the sheer size makes it a no-go for most. The same goes for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (17th–19th), with swells hitting 12ft to 13ft and energy levels over 4000. That’s serious, serious size. Only for the brave, and even then, it’s a paddle-out mission.
The standout? Honestly, if you’re not an expert, your best window is Friday morning 10th July. That’s the cleanest, most manageable wave in the whole run. If you’re an expert, Thursday 16th July morning has the cleanest big swell, but it’s a beast.
The second week calms down. Monday 20th July drops to 8ft ESE, but still marginal conditions. Tuesday 21st July morning is a gem – glassy, 5ft ESE swell, clean energy (606), and very good surf conditions. That’s the best of the second week. Wednesday and Thursday are smaller and less special.
Friday 24th July morning brings another glassy moment with 6ft from the east and good energy (818), but it’s a long way out. Keep an eye on it.
So, to sum it up: Friday 10th July morning is the pick for the everyday surfer. Tuesday 21st July morning is the call for the second week. Everything else is either too small, too big, or too ordinary.
Stay wet,
Rusty
