Table - best surf conditions forecast for Milook over the next 16 days.
Alright, let me be straight with you. Right now, the surf outlook for our region is a bit of a struggle. Over the next 16 days, the waves are mostly tiny and the conditions are often messy. We've got a long gap with no real recommendations until Friday morning, July 10th, so don't expect much before that.
Now, for the first real window of opportunity. Friday morning, July 10th, at Milook we’ve got some waist-high waves rolling in. Swell is 3 ft from the west with a short period of 9 seconds, so not a lot of punch, but the combined energy is moderate at (106). The real winner here is the wind – it's light offshore from the east, glassy clean. This is the standout of the whole outlook. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year. It's a reef setup, so keep your wits about you. Crowds are likely here though, so get there early if you want a peak to yourself.
After that, Saturday morning, July 11th, also has a brief chance with 2 ft swell and clean conditions from a cross-offshore wind, but it's pretty weak with energy at (60). Then it all fades again. From Sunday onward, the swell drops right off. We're looking at knee-high slop or smaller for days on end, with periods down around 6 to 8 seconds. The wind keeps swinging around, mostly onshore or cross-on, making it messy. There's a brief flicker of life on Thursday, July 23rd, with a 3 ft swell from the WSW, but it's coupled with a fresh cross-onshore wind at 19 mph, making it lumpy and not worth paddling out for. Later that afternoon, the swell jumps to 7 ft with huge energy (617), but the wind is a strong cross-onshore at 25 mph, creating a messy, choppy mess. That kind of setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddling.
So, to sum it up: your one and only real shot this period is Friday morning, July 10th at Milook. Get it while it's clean. After that, the forecast is bleak until the very end, and even then, the wind spoils it.
Rusty.
