Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Milook. We’ve got a bit of a quiet spell on our hands for the next couple of weeks, so don’t be in a rush. The surf is going to be scarce, but there might be a few moments worth keeping an eye on.

Looking at the whole forecast, the first week and a half are pretty grim. We’re looking at tiny, weak swell and messy winds for most of it. The water temperature is sitting at 63°F right now, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t freeze while you’re staring at a flat ocean. The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until Wednesday morning, 8th July. It’s a small 2ft from the W with a period of 9 seconds, but the wind is glassy, dead calm. That’s the first glimpse of a surfable wave, though calling it a standout would be a stretch. The combined energy is only 63 (weak), so it’s tiny and weak.

After that, you’re back into poor conditions with cross-onshore breezes and nothing doing until we hit the weekend of the 18th and 19th of July. That’s where our best bet lies. The morning of Saturday, 18th July, we’ve got a clean 4ft from the west, but the period is a short 6 seconds. The offshore wind from the ESE at 12 mph will keep it tidy. The combined energy climbs to 93, still on the weaker side, but it’s something. By Sunday morning, 19th July, it firms up a touch: 5ft from the west, 7-second period, still clean with light offshore ESE breeze at 6 mph, and energy jumps to 181 (moderate). The afternoon of Sunday, 19th July, looks the best of the whole run: glassy calm conditions, 4ft from the west, 7-second period, and energy at 152 (moderate). It’s surfable but still very ordinary. It’s a reef break that is inconsistent, and it can get crowded often, so don’t expect a secret session.

The 20th of July gets a bit bigger, with 6ft to 7ft from the WNW and W, but the wind turns onshore and cross-onshore, making it messy. The energy jumps to 394-510 (moderate to strong), but those are not clean waves. At that size and with the poor wind, it’s more of a mess than a treat. For beginners, that 6ft+ swell is definitely too big, and at over 8ft it’s for experts only—thankfully it maxes at 7ft here.

The standout, if you can call it that, is that Sunday, 19th July afternoon with glassy conditions. It’s not big, but it’s the cleanest you’ll get. For the rest, you’re waiting through a lot of days with nothing to recommend. It’s a frustrating pattern, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

Rusty.
