Table - best surf conditions forecast for Milook over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for us.
Honestly, crew, the outlook is a tough one. We’ve got a solid 16-day window, but it’s a real mixed bag of small, weak swell and a lot of wind. The first real surfable day pops up on Friday, July 10th, but it’s a very brief window. The water temp is sitting right where it should be for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The only real standout, and I mean the only flicker of hope, is Friday morning, July 10th at Milook. We’ve got a clean 3 ft of swell rolling in from the west, with a 9-second period. The wind is light and offshore out of the ESE at just 3 mph, which is going to keep the surface glassy. The combined wave energy is moderate (104), so there’s a bit of push behind it. This is a reef break, and it’s inconsistent, so you’ll have to be patient and pick your sets, but with the wind that clean, it’ll be the best we see. The crowds are often here, so expect a few heads out.
After that Friday morning session, it’s a real desert. From Saturday, July 11th, right through to Thursday, July 24th, the surf is flat or tiny. The swell drops to 2 ft or less, and the wind is mostly cross or cross-off, blowing it out. The combined energy figures are in the weak to very weak range, mostly under 100. It’s a long, dry spell.
Then, on Friday, July 24th, we get a late pulse. The afternoon shows a 4 ft west swell with a 9-second period and a moderate wave energy of 194. The wind is onshore, though, so it’ll be a bit messy. The morning of the 24th is a slightly smaller 3 ft, but also choppy. It’s still not great, but it’s the only pulse of real size in the second week. The 25th of July is a similar story, with 3 ft of messy cross-onshore swell.
So, the call is simple: Friday morning, July 10th, at Milook is your best and only proper shot. The rest of the window is a write-off for a paddle session. If you’re a kite surfer, some of those windy, choppy days might look fun, but for a surfboard, it’s a real struggle.
Rusty.
