The Lowdown
Alright, let's get down to the nitty-gritty for Milook. It's a reef break, and it's a fickle one, breaking only now and again. It needs a west-southwest swell to get going, and the next two weeks are gonna test your patience.
We're starting right now with a big ol' nothing. From Monday the 17th all the way through the end of August, there's a massive gap. The wind is all wrong, mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell is either too small or too weak to bother with. The water's running about 66°F, which feels a good 4°F warmer than usual. That's a nice detail, but it doesn't help when the waves are a mess.
There are a couple of tiny, clean moments. On the morning of Friday the 21st, there's a light offshore breeze from the northeast, and the waves are clean, but it's a tiny 0.6-foot west swell with a weak 8-second period. The total energy is a pathetic 72. It's surfable, but you're not going to get a wave. The same goes for the morning of Sunday the 23rd with a 0.3-foot west swell, and the morning of Tuesday the 25th with a 0.2-foot west swell. They're clean, but they're barely a ripple.
The first real hope comes from the morning of Wednesday the 26th. We've got a 1-foot west swell with a 9-second period, and a light cross-shore wind from the southwest at 6 mph. The combined energy is 209. It's marginal, but it's the best thing we've seen in a while. It's a *maybe*.
But the real standout, the one you want to circle on your calendar, is the morning of Friday the 28th of August. The swell jumps to 6 feet from the west, with a solid 10-second period. The combined energy is a whopping 635. That's some serious groundswell energy. The wind is onshore from the west, but it's only 3 mph, so it's almost glassy. The forecast is still only marginal, but this is the window. It's getting into the size where it's for the more experienced crew, and with that period, it'll be powerful. The afternoon of the 28th looks similar, with 6-foot waves and 631 energy, just a bit more breeze.
After that, it's back to the bad news. The 29th and 30th blow up with stronger onshore winds, and the 31st brings a risk of thunderstorms and strong westerlies, making it a complete write-off. The first of September looks like more of the same.
So, the long and short of it is: the morning of the 28th of August is your best bet. The rest of the forecast is a lot of waiting around. Keep your fingers crossed for that one.
