The Lowdown

Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on offer over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, mate, it’s a tough one. The surf forecast for Milook is looking pretty flat and uninspiring for the vast majority of the 16-day window. We’re talking tiny, weak waves – mostly around 1ft to 2ft – with a combined energy that barely gets into double figures, often sitting between 14 and 58 (weak energy). That’s not going to get anyone out of bed.

The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until the very end of the period. From Saturday the 26th of July, we start to see a bit more size, but the wind is a mess. On Sunday the 26th morning, the swell picks up to 3ft from the west with a period of 8 seconds, but it’s accompanied by a fresh onshore breeze (19 mph) and the combined energy climbs to 136 (moderate). By Monday the 27th, we’ve got a proper pulse: 6ft swell from the west, period of 8 seconds, energy hitting 401 (strong). But again, it’s cross-onshore, choppy, and the wind is a solid 12-16 mph. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a clean paddle session.

The only standout, if you can call it that, is a tiny window on Tuesday the 21st of July. The morning looks glassy with a 1ft west swell and a period of 10 seconds. The wind is dead calm – glassy conditions – and the wave is clean. But it’s only 1ft and the energy is 22 (weak). It’s an inconsistent reef break that rarely works, so for a true beginner, it’s not going to be worth the trip. For an expert on a longboard, maybe a fun little session if you’re desperate.

Water temperature is about average for the time of year, no big anomaly to report.

So, summing it up: the first two weeks are a write-off. The only real pulse of size comes at the very end, but it’s blown out. The morning of the 21st July is the only clean, glassy moment, but it’s tiny. If you’re a surfer, you’re probably better off waiting for the next forecast.
