Table - best surf conditions forecast for Milook over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a quiet run for the region. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak surf ahead, so don’t be expecting any heroics. The only spot on the cards is Milook, a reef break that’s inconsistent and can get crowded, but the swell window is just not working for most of the next two weeks.

The first real chance of anything surfable doesn’t arrive until the very end of the period. From now until the 27th of July, we’re looking at a massive gap. The swell heights barely flicker above 1 ft, with periods mostly under 11 seconds, and the combined energy is weak, sitting between 8 and 36 for most of that time. It’s a whole lot of nothing.

For the first few days, it’s a tease. Sunday the 12th has a clean 1 ft swell from the NNW with a 5-second period, but the wind is a stiff 30 km/h cross-off from the E. It’s clean, but there’s no power. Monday through Wednesday (13th to 15th) are similarly hopeless – tiny waves, mostly 0.3 ft to 1 ft, with periods that are all over the place. The wind is generally offshore or cross-off, keeping the surface clean, but there’s simply nothing to ride.

By the 16th and 17th, the wind swings onshore from the WNW, and the swell stays tiny at 1 ft. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there. Thursday and Friday are a write-off.

The 18th of July is a bit of a shrug. The swell picks up to 2 ft from the W, but the period drops to a pathetic 5 seconds, and the wind is a messy cross-on from the NW. It’s more of a bump than a wave.

After that, we get a few days of clean offshore winds, particularly on the 19th and 20th, with a 30 km/h breeze from the E cleaning things up. But the swell is still tiny – 0.7 ft to 1 ft – and the energy is weak. The 21st of July gives us a glassy morning, with a 1 ft swell from the W and a 10-second period, but it’s still just not enough to get excited about. It’s a beautiful, flat pond.

The 22nd through the 24th is more of the same: clean conditions, tiny swell, and nothing to write home about. The 25th and 26th see the wind go onshore again, with the swell barely reaching 1 ft.

Now, here’s the one standout, and it’s a long way off. On Monday the 27th of July, the swell finally shows up. A 5 ft groundswell from the W, with a 9-second period, arrives. The combined energy jumps to 355 (moderate), and the wind is light from the WNW. For a reef break like Milook, that long-period groundswell is a good sign, meaning better shaped waves. However, 5 ft is pushing it for beginners, but for intermediates, this is the best option on offer. The wind is light, so it’ll be clean. It’s a long-range call, so treat it as a promising lead, but it’s the only real window in the whole 16 days.

So, to sum it up: a massive flat spell broken only by a promising, but distant, shot on the 27th. Keep your eyes on that one, but don’t hold your breath.

Rusty.
