The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: this 16-day window for Milook is a tough one. We’re looking at a long stretch of mostly poor surf conditions, with only a couple of very brief, marginal windows that might be worth a paddle. The water is sitting at 66°F, which is 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year — that’s notably warm, so at least you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
The first real chance of anything surfable comes on Saturday the 22nd in the morning. It’s tiny, with a 2ft swell from the west, but the wind is light and cross-offshore from the ENE, making it clean. The wave energy is weak (82), and the conditions are described as “surfable but very ordinary”. It’s not much, but it’s the cleanest we’ll see for a while.
After that, there’s a big gap of nothing worth mentioning until the morning of Thursday the 27th. We get a 4ft west swell, clean with a cross-off SE wind, but the period is short (6 seconds) and the energy is still moderate (179). The afternoon of the 27th is the best on offer, with a 4ft west swell, 10-second period, and moderate cross-off wind, giving a clean surface. The combined energy picks up to 303, which is moderate. Still, it’s only a “marginal” call.
The rest of the period is a write-off. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, the swell is either too small or blown out, and the setups are messy. For a reef break that’s inconsistent and rarely breaks, Milook is really not playing ball. The only standouts are those two sessions on the 22nd morning and the 27th afternoon — but don’t expect much. If you’re desperate, go for the 27th afternoon: 4ft, clean, with a bit more energy.
Rusty.
