Table - best surf conditions forecast for Milook over the next 16 days.
Alright gang, Rusty here. Let’s break down the 16-day outlook for Milook.
I’m not going to sugarcoat it: the first week and a half is a total bummer. From Friday the 10th right through to Tuesday the 21st of July, the swell is tiny and the wind is all over the place. It’s a long stretch of barely any surf.
The only real flicker of hope in the early part is Friday morning the 10th of July. We’ve got a 3ft swell from the west with a 9-second period, delivering weak wave energy (103). The wind is a light offshore from the ESE, so it’s clean. The water is a warm 64°, which is over 4 degrees warmer than usual for July. Pretty unusual. But honestly, it’s just not enough to get excited about. After that, the wind goes onshore and the swell dies.
From Saturday the 11th through to the 21st, it’s flat or tiny. Heights are mostly under 1ft, and the wind is either cross-offshore or onshore, creating choppy mess. Don’t bother.
Now, here’s the one day you need to circle. Wednesday the 22nd of July. A proper swell finally shows up. We’re talking a 5ft west swell in the morning, easing to 5ft in the afternoon. The period is 7 seconds, so it’s a bit short, but the combined energy is moderate (255 in the morning, 280 in the afternoon). The wind is a light offshore from the ESE, meaning it’s going to be glassy clean all day. This is the standout. The west swell is right on the money for the exposed reef. Crowds are often around here, so you won’t be alone.
The good window is short-lived. Thursday the 23rd of July morning has a fresh 30 km/h offshore wind, but the swell is already down to 4ft, and the conditions are marginal. After that, it’s back to onshore winds and lumpy, choppy surf for the rest of the run. The weekend of the 25th of July has a 5ft swell, but it’s blown out by a strong 30 km/h cross-onshore wind, making it more of a kite-surfing day than a paddle session.
So, there you have it. Suffer through the flat spell, then hit Wednesday the 22nd of July. That’s your one clean, fun day. The rest is a wash.
Rusty.
