The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a paddle. We've got a sixteen-day window, and to be honest, there's a whole lot of nothing on the horizon for most of it. We're looking at a long, flat spell that stretches from now until about the 29th of August. There are a few pulses of energy, but they're coming in with all the wrong wind, so it's just going to be a mess of onshore chop and poor surf. You'd be better off checking the tide pools.
We finally see a real change on Sunday the 30th of August. For the first time in what feels like an eternity, things line up. Milook (Cornwall) is our only real option, and while it's usually an inconsistent reef break, it might just fire. On Sunday morning, we've got a clean 5ft of west-northwest swell rolling in, with a light southerly breeze making it properly glassy. The energy is moderate at 266, which is the first sign of life we've seen. It won't be huge, but it'll be clean, and that's a win. This is the standout of the whole period. The swell direction is from the west, which lines up with the optimum for this spot.
Now, that Sunday morning session is the highlight. The afternoon gets a bit messier with a cross-shore wind, and Monday the 31st brings a bigger, but more disorganized swell. There’s a pulse of 6ft from the west-southwest on Monday morning, and the energy jumps up to 422, but the conditions are marginal. The wind is cross-offshore and the surf is clean, but the forecast flags it as questionable. It’s a step up in size, but it might be a bit lumpy and less user-friendly.
Looking further out, the 1st of September has some real size with 7ft of west-northwest swell. That's getting into the territory that's more for the experienced crew. The energy is a strong 913, but the winds are all over the place, switching from cross-shore to cross-offshore. It’s promising from a power standpoint, but you’ll need to know what you’re doing. After that, it looks like it fades out again.
So, to sum it up: if you want a wave, your window is Sunday morning the 30th. That's the one to circle. The rest is a waiting game.
Rusty, out.
