The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Milook over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – this is a real slow burner. We’ve got a rough patch of tiny, weak surf to kick things off, so don’t bother waxing up just yet.
The first bit of hope doesn’t show up until Thursday, the 27th of August. That morning, we see a jump to 10ft swell from the west, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy hits 985 (moderate), so it’s got some push. Wind is a light cross-off from the SSW, which should keep it clean. But honestly, with that short period, it’s going to be a bit lumpy and fat. It’s the best we’ve got in the first week, but it’s more of a windy, choppy session than a glassy dream. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so don’t expect any surprises there.
That Thursday afternoon gets a bit messy with onshore winds, so the morning is your window. After that, we hit another lull. Friday the 28th through Sunday the 30th is mostly onshore junk with weak, small swell. Not worth paddling out for.
Now, we move into the second week. Things start to look a little more interesting around Tuesday, the 1st of September. Still small, but we’re holding on. The real standout shows up on Wednesday, the 2nd of September. That morning, we get 5ft swell from the west with a 9-second period, and clean conditions with a light cross-off breeze from the south. The energy is 410 (moderate). That’s a solid, surfable morning. But the real gem is that Wednesday afternoon: 7ft from the west, period bumping up to 10 seconds, energy at 1055 (strong). Wind is light and cross-shore from the SSW. That’s the best wave of the whole outlook – clean, punchy, with decent power. It’s a reef break, so it’ll handle that swell well. The only downside is it’s inconsistent, so you’ll be waiting for sets, but the ones that come will be worth it.
Heading into Thursday the 3rd of September, we’ve got a solid 8ft west swell with a 11-second period, giving us 1613 (strong) energy. That’s a big, powerful groundswell. But the wind is cross-shore and fresh, so it’s going to be bumpy. That’s expert territory. If you’re a beginner, stay on the beach. If you’re advanced, you could get some big, wally walls, but it’ll be a battle.
After that, the swell drops off quickly. Friday the 4th and Saturday the 5th are back to onshore slop. The last day, Sunday the 6th of September, is tiny and weak.
So, to sum it up: the best sessions are Wednesday morning and Wednesday afternoon, the 2nd of September. That afternoon is the clear winner. Also, keep an eye on the morning of Thursday the 3rd if you’re an expert and don’t mind a bit of chop. The rest of the window is a write-off.
Rusty.
