Table - best surf conditions forecast for Milook over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Milook are looking pretty grim. We’ve got a solid 16-day window, but for the first six days, it’s a total write-off. There’s almost no energy in the water, with the combined swell energy barely cracking 50 (53 is the best of the bunch, and that’s weak). You’re looking at knee-high slop at best, if that. Don’t even bother paddling out until we get past the 28th.
The first real pulse of life shows up on the morning of Friday the 28th of August. We’ll see a jump to 6ft of swell from the west, with a short period of 7 seconds. The combined energy hits 330, which is moderate, but it’s a messy cross-offshore wind from the south. The afternoon gets worse with rain showers and a cross-on breeze, so it’s going to be a bumpy, choppy mess. The weekend follows suit with similar size but poor conditions.
Now, the standouts. There’s nothing that screams “go now,” but if you’re patient, the best window appears around Thursday the 3rd of September. The morning of the 4th of September is the real highlight. It’s not huge, with 4ft of west swell coming in at a 9-second period, but the wind is glassy – dead calm from the southeast. That’s a major positive. The combined energy is a solid 243, so there’s some push. It’ll be clean, fun, and the rip current won’t be a battle. The only downside is that Milook is a reef break that’s inconsistent and often crowded, so expect company. This is the one to circle on your calendar.
The morning of the 3rd of September isn’t bad either, with 4ft of west swell (7-second period) and a moderate cross-offshore breeze from the northeast, giving clean waves with a combined energy of 212.
After that brief highlight, the swell drops off again and the onshore winds return, so you’ll be back to skinny conditions heading into the second week. The water temperature on the 22nd of August is a balmy 66°, which is 4° warmer than usual – that’s notably toasty for this time of year.
Stay patient, wait for that glassy morning on the 4th, and you’ll get a few clean ones. Otherwise, the forecast is a washout.
Rusty.
