The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the outlook for Milook over the next 16 days is a tough one.
Overall, it’s a very quiet stretch. The energy is just not there to get excited about. We’re looking at a long run of small, weak, and mostly messy conditions. There’s no standout swell in the mix, and the wind is often working against us. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least it’ll be pleasant on the skin.
Let’s break it down. The first real chance of anything comes on Sunday, July 19th, but it’s a non-starter. Tiny 2ft swell from the NNW with a short 5-second period. The combined energy is a weak 18, and the SSE wind is cross-offshore, which would normally be a plus, but the wave height is just too small to do anything with. It’s a no-go.
The whole week of July 19th through the 25th is a write-off. We’re seeing heights stuck between 0.7ft and 3ft, with periods that are often under 6 seconds. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, keeping the surface choppy. The combined energy values are all in the double digits, well below 100, confirming how weak the whole setup is.
There’s a slight bump on Sunday, July 26th, with the swell pushing up to 4ft from the WNW, and the period stretching to 7 seconds. The combined energy hits 152 (moderate), which is the highest we’ll see in the whole period. But don’t get too excited – the wind is onshore from the WNW at 9 mph in the morning, rising to 12 mph in the afternoon. This will create bumpy, difficult conditions. It’s still a poor outlook.
The rest of the month and into early August is more of the same. We get a few glimpses of longer period swell (10-11 seconds) around August 1st and 3rd, but the heights are tiny at 2ft to 2ft, and the wind is either onshore or cross-on. The combined energy stays in the 40s to 70s. This is a real blank run for the area, and it’s not unusual to see stretches like this when the Atlantic is quiet.
There is no standout session. The best of a bad bunch is the Sunday, July 26th morning, but that’s not saying much. The 4ft swell is the only thing that breaks the 3ft mark, but the onshore wind will ruin any chance of a clean wave. For any other spot, I’d say save your energy.
Rusty.
