The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. The next 16 days are looking like a flat spell for Meia-Praia, with barely a ripple to get excited about. We’re talking a long stretch of nothing, from now right through to the end of the month. The swell is tiny, and the energy is basically non-existent throughout. The water temp is sitting at 71°, which is right around average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real surf of any kind shows up on Wednesday afternoon, July 15th, but it’s just a dribble of 0.3 ft from the south, with a 15-second period that’s way too long for that size. The combined energy is only 7 (weak as), and with a cross-off wind from the WNW at 12 mph, it’s clean but there’s nothing to ride. It’s a beginner spot, inconsistent, and crowds are often around, but honestly, no one’s going to be out.
The pattern stays the same through the whole forecast. Thursday morning, July 16th, brings the same 0.3 ft south swell, period dropping to 11 seconds, and an offshore wind from the NNW at 9 mph. The energy is down to 2. It’s clean, but it’s flat. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are completely flat, with zero energy. The winds are offshore, but there’s nothing to catch.
This repeats all the way through to the end of the month. There’s a tiny bump on July 25th and 26th, with the swell pushing up to 1 ft from the ESE, period around 5 seconds, and energy hitting 5. That’s still ankle-biters. The wind stays offshore from the NW, so it’s clean, but for a surfer, it’s a washout. The last few days, from July 28th to 30th, are flat again, with a window of onshore wind on the 30th that’ll just mess up the surface.
There is no standout session here. The best of a bad bunch might be the Thursday morning, July 23rd, when the swell is from the SSE at 0.3 ft with a 5-second period, but the energy is a pathetic 1. It’s not worth paddling out for. If you’re kite surfing, those offshore winds on the flat days might look interesting, but for paddle surfing, it’s a total blank run. This is just one of those periods for the area – forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board in the garage.
Rusty.
