Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lowestoft over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk Lowestoft. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty tough, to be honest. There’s a long dry spell with hardly any surf worth talking about before we finally get a decent window.
The water is warm for the season, running at 65°F right now – that’s much warmer than average, which is a little odd, but it won't save the waves.
From Wednesday July 8th all the way through to the morning of Monday July 21st, it’s pretty much flat or junk. Swell heights stay between about 1ft and 4ft, but with cross-onshore or onshore winds the whole time, it’s just choppy, lumpy, and blown out. The energy is weak – most days reading under 100 – and the periods are short, mostly 3 to 7 seconds, so it’s just windswill. Not worth paddling out.
But then, on the afternoon of Monday July 21st, things finally switch. We’ve got a 6ft swell from the north with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 783 (strong wave energy), and the wind goes cross-offshore from the northwest at about 10 mph. That’s clean. That’s the one. The break is Lowestoft, exposed to the north, and the wind will be off the land, so the faces will be smooth. This is the best of the whole 16 days – after two weeks of nothing, this will actually be a proper session. Just know that 6ft is getting up there for beginners; you’ll want some experience.
Tuesday morning July 22nd still has some life – 5ft from the north, period 8 seconds, and light cross-offshore winds. Energy’s still solid at 295 (moderate wave energy), and it’ll be clean. But it’s not as good as Monday afternoon. The beach breaks here might make the longer-period swell run a bit straight, but with cross-off wind, you’ll still get some waves.
By Wednesday July 23rd, we’re back down to tiny 2ft with offshore winds – clean but barely breaking. And Thursday the 24th is small and lumpy again.
So the call is simple: the best shot is Monday July 21st afternoon. Tuesday morning is okay but not the standout. Everything else is a miss. Circle that date.
