The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the local stretch.
Honestly, looking at the next 16 days, it's a tough one. We've got a real flat spell to kick things off, and the whole window is a bit of a struggle for decent waves. The overall pattern is one of very small, inconsistent swell and tricky winds, so we're not looking at any classic sessions.
The first real chance of a wave comes on the morning of Wednesday the 20th of August. We're talking tiny 1.0 ft of swell from the north, with a short 7-second period. The combined swell energy is weak (8). The wind is a light offshore from the WSW, which will keep the surface clean. It's a very small wave, not exciting, but it's a start.
Thursday the 21st of August afternoon sees a slight bump up to 1.0 ft from the NNE, with a period of 7 seconds. The offshore wind from the WSW picks up to a moderate breeze, making it clean. The energy is still very weak (10). It's still small, but it's the best of a bad bunch for the early part of the window.
The biggest swell we see in the whole period is on Friday the 22nd of August afternoon. A 4 ft swell from the north, with a period of 6 seconds. The combined swell energy is moderate (132). However, the wind is a moderate cross-shore from the north at 16 mph, which will put a chop on the surface. The break itself is Lowestoft, a fairly exposed beach break that is inconsistent and for beginners. This is a beginner-friendly size, but the wind condition will make it messy. It's not a standout.
The water temperature at Lowestoft is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual to report.
Honestly, there's nothing here that screams "go ride." The forecast is poor across the board. We see a few days with a small 3 ft to 3 ft swell, but it’s always accompanied by cross-shore or onshore winds. The period stays short, mostly 5 to 7 seconds, so no real energy or shape.
Looking further out, the last week of August and into September is a complete write-off. The swell drops to 0.3 ft and even 0.0 ft for days on end. The wind does go offshore a few times, but there's simply no swell to ride.
Forget the second week. It's a flat, disappointing run. With no real swell and poor quality, the setup is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer if the wind is up.
So, there you have it. Keep the board waxed, but don't hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but this is a grim outlook.
Rusty.
