Alright, grab a coffee, and let’s have a proper look at what’s happening around Lowestoft over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you—it’s not looking like a classic stretch for the log or the shortboard.
Overall Pattern: To be honest, the surf over the next 16 days is pretty quiet. There’s no standout swell on the horizon, and most of what we get will be small, short-period windswell. The water temperature is sitting at 64°F most days, which is about 6°F warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s a proper anomaly; you’re going to feel that difference when you paddle out—it’s noticeably warm for the area.
First Week (July 3rd – July 9th):
We start off on Friday the 3rd with some small swell, but a cross-on wind from the SE at 12 mph makes it choppy and uninviting. Saturday the 4th morning sees a shift to a clean offshore wind from the west, but the wave height is tiny—just 1 ft from the NNE. It’ll be clean but barely rideable. Sunday the 5th stays small and clean through the morning and afternoon, but the swell is only 1.0 ft with a short 6-second period. You’d be chasing ripples.
Monday the 6th has a glassy afternoon, with zero wind from the NW, but again only 1.0 ft of north swell. It’s pretty as a pond, but not surf. Tuesday and Wednesday follow the same pattern—clean, small, and under 2 ft. The combined energy of all swells directed here barely hits 83 on Wednesday afternoon, which is still weak energy. Nothing is breaking with any guts.
Second Week (July 10th – July 18th):
From Friday the 10th through to the 18th, the pattern stays flat to tiny. Most days show wave heights at 0.3 ft to 2 ft, with short periods between 3 and 6 seconds. Winds flick between cross-shore and onshore, with a few clean offshore windows—like Sunday the 12th morning with a WSW offshore wind—but the swell is only 1 ft from the ENE with a 4-second period. That’s barely a bump.
There’s a real gap of about 10 days where nothing worth paddling out for shows up. The combined swell energy often sits in single digits—weak, barely moving water. The only real standout is the consistency of clean conditions, but without any push, it’s more of a flat spell than a surf forecast.
The Verdict:
Honestly, there’s no good surf on offer here. If you’re desperate, Saturday the 4th morning has offshore wind and a tiny 1 ft NNE swell—you might get a few knee-high rollers if you’re on a longboard and don’t mind paddling for nothing. But that’s all. This area can go through blank runs like this now and then. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a flat and clean stretch of time. You’d be better off checking the kites if the wind picks up.
