The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this is a tough one. The next 16 days for Lowestoft are looking pretty flat and mostly disappointing. There’s a big gap of no real surf to start with, and the first few days are a write-off. We’ve got a long stretch of poor conditions, so don't get your hopes up.
The first bit of anything worth mentioning doesn’t show up until Sunday the 20th of July, and even then it’s a struggle. The swell is tiny, only 3 ft, coming from NNE, with a short period of 8 seconds. The wind is a cross-shore breeze at 12 mph, so it’s going to be lumpy and messy. The combined energy is weak (107). Honestly, this is more for the kite crew than paddle surfers—it’s just not clean enough.
Monday the 21st of July is even worse. Swell drops to 3 ft with a period of 6 seconds, and the wind is cross-onshore at 12 mph. Choppy and ugly. The energy is barely there (44). Not a single standout session in sight.
The only glimmer of hope comes on Wednesday the 22nd of July. The morning looks glassy with wind from the north at just 3 mph, but the swell is tiny—2 ft, short period of 6 seconds, and from NNE. The water is much warmer than normal for the time of year at 66°, which is a big anomaly (5° warmer). That’s very unusual. But even with the glassy conditions, the waves are just too small and weak (combined energy of 32) to get excited about. It’s a clean, flat morning.
The rest of the week into early August is a snooze-fest. There are a few sessions with offshore winds on the 25th and 26th of July, but the swell is a pathetic 1 ft to 1 ft. The energy is in the single digits—5, 12, 15. That’s barely a ripple. The wind is clean, but there’s nothing to ride.
By the time we get to the 2nd of August, we’re still looking at 1 ft max with a 6-second period. The wind is offshore, but the combined energy is only 12. It’s a flat spell that just won’t quit.
Bottom line: if you’ve got a kite, maybe you’ll have a laugh on the windier days, but for surf—this is a long, blank run. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to recommend.
Rusty.
