The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Lookin’ at the surf outlook for Lowestoft, and I gotta be straight with you—there’s a long, flat spell ahead. Nothin’s really on the cards until the end of the month, so we’re talkin’ a solid 10-day gap with no real surf to speak of. The first bit of hope comes on Saturday, 25th July.
The first wave worth paddling for is on Saturday the 25th, in the morning. The swell nudges up to 5 ft from the north, with a short period of 7 seconds. It’s a weak energy system (277), but the wind is glassy—dead calm—so it’ll be clean as a whistle. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothin’ weird there. It’s a beginner spot, though, and with that swell size, it’s fine for learners. The afternoon on the same day gets messy, with a fresh cross-onshore wind ruining it.
Sunday the 26th morning has a similar size swell, 5 ft from the north-northeast, period of 8 seconds. The wind is offshore from the west at 16 mph, so it’ll be clean and lined up. The combined energy is moderate (238). It’s a decent window, but the surf is still ordinary. The afternoon is smaller with a cross-offshore breeze, but the quality drops off.
After that, from Monday the 27th through to the end of the forecast, it’s back to small, weak, and mostly unsurfable. The swell barely reaches 3 ft, periods are short, and the wind is either cross-off or straight onshore. There’s no energy behind it—most readings are under 70. On Thursday the 30th morning, it’s clean with a light offshore, but the swell is a paltry 3 ft from the east-southeast, period of 4 seconds. That’s barely a ripple.
The standout here is that Saturday morning, 25th July. It’s the only time the conditions come together: glassy, clean, and a bit of north swell. Even then, it’s not huge, but it’s the best on offer. The rest of the run is a write-off. Keep an eye on the forecasts, though—things can change.
Rusty.
