The Lowdown
Alright, let’s take a look at what’s on offer for Lowestoft.
Honestly, mate, it’s a bit of a tough stretch ahead. There’s really no good surf to get excited about in the next 16 days. The whole window is pretty much a write-off. We’ve got a long, blank run on our hands here, and that’s not unusual for this area when the conditions just don’t line up.
The first bit of surf worth noting is a tiny pulse on the morning of Saturday the 22nd of August, with a weak 3ft swell from the north, but with a short period of 6 seconds and moderate cross-offshore wind. The combined energy is weak, only 76. It’s just not going to do anything. The water is sitting at 68°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, but that's about the only interesting thing.
The next little spike comes on Tuesday the 25th of August, where we see a 5ft north-easterly swell in the morning. The period is still a short 6 seconds, and we’re getting onshore wind from the east at 19 mph, making it lumpy. Combined energy is moderate at 114, but the quality is poor. It’s going to be choppy and hard work for very little reward.
After that, it’s pretty much flat with occasional tiny pulses. The afternoon of Sunday the 30th of August shows a 5ft southerly swell with a bit more energy (120), but the wind is cross-shore at 13 mph and the period is only 6 seconds. Still poor quality. By the end of the first week of September, we’re down to tiny 2ft or less swells and clean offshore winds, but there’s just not enough push to make anything rideable.
There is no standout session in this entire outlook. If you’re a beginner, there’s nothing here for you either. Conditions are flat and poor for everyone. Sometimes you just have to wait for the next change in the weather pattern.
