The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s going on for Lowestoft.
Right, straight up, the next couple of weeks are looking grim. The waves are tiny, the energy is pathetic, and there’s just no reason to get excited. We’ve got a long, dry stretch ahead with almost nothing worth paddling out for. For Lowestoft (United Kingdom), the outlook is a tough one.
The first week is a total write-off. From the 17th of August onwards, we’re looking at waves below 0.3m (less than 1 ft) with weak combined swell energy (just 3 to 12). The water temperature is a notable 68°F, which is a good 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s about the only bright spot. The winds are mostly offshore or light, but with no swell to push around, it’s just a flat, clean lake. You could almost kite surf if you had to, but there’s nothing for a paddle surfer.
Things try to pick up a little around the 21st and 22nd of August. The swell height bumps up to around 0.9m to 1.0m (3 ft to 3 ft) from the NNE, but the period is short (6 to 8 seconds) and the wind is a messy cross-shore. Combined energy climbs to a moderate 54 to 131, but it’s all lumpy and chopped up. It’s not surfable quality. The 23rd and 24th see the swell drop again, with the same poor cross-shore or cross-onshore winds. It’s just not happening.
After that, from the 25th of August all the way through to the 1st of September, we’re back to flat or near-flat conditions. Swell heights are under 0.5m (2 ft), often zero, and combined energy is in the single digits. There’s no standouts here, no hidden gem. The forecast is consistent: nothing worth your time.
Forget it. This is a long, blank run. It happens here sometimes, and this is one of those times. Stick to the skatepark or get the fishing gear out.
Rusty.
