The Lowdown
Hey folks, Rusty here. Looks like we’re in for a bit of a dry spell along the Lowestoft stretch. The whole 16-day window is a real struggle – there’s no decent surf on offer at all. Every single day is flagged as “poor surf conditions,” so don’t get your hopes up for a paddle.
The first few days, from Sunday the 19th through to the end of the first week, are basically a write-off. We’ve got small, weak swell coming in from the NNE, mostly around 1 ft to 5 ft, but the period is short and choppy – nothing with any real push. The combined wave energy is weak, barely cracking 100 (294 being the highest, and that’s still weak). Winds are a mix of cross and cross-off from the N and NNE, often a fresh breeze, so it’s messy and lumpy. There’s a brief moment on Wednesday morning the 22nd with glassy conditions, but with only 2 ft of weak, short-period swell, it’s not worth suiting up.
The middle of the period, around the 29th of July, we finally see a bit of a pulse. Wednesday morning brings a 4 ft swell from the north with a bit more energy – the combined energy finally hits 101, which is still just moderate. The wind is offshore from the west, so it’ll be clean. But the period is still short at 6 seconds, and the rating is a 1/10 – “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s not a standout, just a slight glimmer in a long, flat stretch.
The rest of the second week, from the 30th of July through to the 3rd of August, is more of the same: tiny waves, weak energy, and mostly cross-off or cross-onshore winds. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing special.
So, bottom line: there’s no standout day, no break to chase. The best you can hope for is a clean, glassy morning on the 22nd with tiny ankle-biters, or that Wednesday the 29th with a bit of offshore wind and a small, workable wave. For the most part, this is a blank run, and that’s normal for the area when the conditions line up like this. Don’t force it; the forecasts can change, but for now, the board stays dry.
Rusty.
