Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lowestoft over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for our shores over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you – it’s not looking like a vintage period for a proper surf.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a lengthy dry spell. From now, right through the back half of July and into the early part of the third week, there’s absolutely nothing worth paddling out for. We’re talking day after day of tiny, weak, wind-affected slop that won’t even get a longboard planing. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, and any bumps in the water are just messy chop. The first real chance of anything doesn’t appear until much later.
The only spot we’ve got to talk about here is Lowestoft. It’s a beginner-friendly break that’s inconsistent at the best of times, and it’s fairly exposed to the north. For the bulk of the forecast, it’s a complete write-off.
Now, if you’re desperate and have been watching the forecast like a hawk, there is one tiny window that pops up around Wednesday, the 22nd of July. On the Wednesday morning, we’ll see a pulse of knee-to-waist high swell, around 3 ft, coming from the NNW with a period of 7 seconds. The energy will be weak, only registering about 84. But here’s the kicker – we’ll have a clean, offshore wind from the WSW. For a break that gets hammered by onshore winds, that’s a rare treat. The water temperature is about 65°, which is much warmer than normal for the time of year, so you won’t need a thick suit. It’s only a small glimmer of hope, and it won’t last, but that Wednesday morning window is truly the only thing on the board that’s even worth a mention. The rest is just a waiting game.
So, there you have it. A long, flat spell with one brief, clean moment. Keep an eye on the charts, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
