Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – if you’ve got the itch for a paddle around Lowestoft over the next couple of weeks, you’re gonna be fighting a losing battle. We’ve got a long, flat stretch ahead.
Looking at the whole picture, it’s a pretty grim run. There’s no real surf to speak of for the first week and a bit. We start off on Sunday the 5th of July with a tiny 1ft ripple from the north, but the combined energy is only a weak 6, and the wind is a cross-off. It’s clean but too small to ride. That theme of tiny, weak swell just sticks around day after day. Monday the 6th, Tuesday the 7th, Wednesday the 8th – all offering knee-high dribble at best, with the combined energy barely climbing above single digits. The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is a whopping 6° warmer than normal for this time of year – so you’ll be warm, just not wet.
We see a slight bump late in the second week, but it’s nothing to get excited about. By Thursday the 16th of July, we’ve got a cross-shore wind and a 3ft swell from the east-northeast. The period is a short and crumbly 4 seconds. The combined energy finally pushes into the moderate range at 33, but the onshore component and the short period mean it’ll be messy and weak. The best of a bad bunch might be the morning of Friday the 17th of July, with a 3ft east swell and the same short 5-second period, giving a combined energy of 44. It’s still a cross-shore wind and pretty grovelly. For beginners, anything over 5ft could be a handful, but that’s not an issue here – these tiny waves are safe for learners, but there’s just no push.
Honestly, for the whole 16-day window, there isn't a single standout day. It’s a blank run for the area. Conditions like this tend not to stay poor forever, but right now, the forecast is what it is. If you’re absolutely desperate, the best you’ll find is a knee-high, wobbly line on the 17th. Maybe set your sights on a different hobby for a while.
Rusty.
