Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Little Austi and Main Beach.
This forecast opens with a bit of a flat spell, so don’t bother paddling out just yet. The first few days are a write-off for any real surf. We’re talking Friday the 3rd through Sunday the 5th – tiny, weak swells, messy winds, just not worth the wetty. You’re better off doing something else.
Monday the 6th kicks up a bit, but it’s not pretty. We’ve got a 8ft swell rolling in from the SSE, period around 10 seconds, but the wind is cross-onshore and choppy. The combined energy is strong at 1256, but it’s all a bit lumpy and poor. Not the kind of day you tell your mates about.
Tuesday the 7th holds that size – still 8ft from the SE, period stretching to 11 seconds, with combined energy pushing up to 1495. But again, the wind is messing it up, swinging cross-onshore in the afternoon. It’s a marginal call at best, and that size is really only for the experienced crew.
Now, Wednesday the 8th starts to clean up a little. Swell drops to 7ft from the SE, period 10 seconds, with a lighter cross-shore breeze in the morning. Combined energy is still high at 1203, but it’s a more manageable setup. Still, it’s not a standout.
The real gem here is Thursday the 9th of July. This is the pick of the forecast. Morning starts glassy with a light WNW breeze, and the swell is a clean 6ft from the SE, period 10 seconds. Combined energy sits at 694 – moderate, but the quality is where it’s at. By afternoon, it goes completely glassy with calm conditions. The waves will be clean, well-shaped, and that size is perfect for intermediates and above. Crowds are possible here sometimes, and with conditions this good, you might have some company, but the quality should be worth it.
Friday the 10th is still decent, with a 4ft SE swell in the morning, glassy conditions again. Combined energy is 287, so a bit weaker, but very surfable. The afternoon turns a bit crumbly with a light cross-onshore, so get out early.
After that, it drops off again. Saturday the 11th down to 2ft, then a long stretch of tiny or flat waves through the middle of the month. There’s a gap of several days with nothing worthwhile – from about the 11th through to the 16th, it’s mostly poor surf and very small swell.
Then we get a late burst. Friday the 17th looks interesting with the afternoon showing a 8ft SE groundswell, period 12 seconds, combined energy a solid 1573. The wind is light cross-onshore, so it could be a bit bumpy, but there’s energy. But the true late stand-out is Saturday the 18th of July. Morning is glassy again, with a bombie of a swell – 10ft from the ESE, period 12 seconds, and combined energy roaring at 2189. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers only. That’s a big, powerful groundswell with a long period, perfect for the points and reefs, but at a beach and reef setup like this, she’ll be breaking plenty heavy. If you’ve got the skill, this is your session.
Water temp here is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual to report.
So, to sum it up: Thursday the 9th is your best all-round day for clean, fun waves. For the big-wave hunters, keep your eye on Saturday the 18th – it’s a long way out, so less certain, but if it holds, it’ll be a cracker. Most of the rest of the window is small or messy.
