Table - best surf conditions forecast for Little Austi and Main Beach over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. Little Austi and Main Beach is on the table. It’s a beach and reef break, fairly consistent, and the water temp is about what you’d expect for this time of year.
The first few days are a total bust. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are all junk: cross-onshore wind, short period slop, and very low energy. Not worth a second look.
Sunday the 19th sees a jump in swell to 7ft from the ENE, with a 11-second period, and the energy goes through the roof to 1133. But the wind is cross-on, and the conditions are marginal. For a beach and reef, that’s going to be a washing machine. More of a kite day than a surf day.
The real standout is Monday the 20th. Swell drops to a clean 6ft from the ENE, period at 10 seconds, and the wind goes offshore from the NNW in the morning. It’s glassy, clean, and the energy is 642. That’s the best session of the whole forecast. The afternoon stays clean with a cross-offshore breeze.
Tuesday the 21st is almost as good. The swell is 5ft, but the wind is glassy, dead calm. The ocean will be a mirror. The period is 10 seconds, so it’s a nice, rideable groundswell. Energy is 409. Perfect for intermediates.
Wednesday the 22nd is still clean in the morning with offshore wind and 4ft swell. Thursday the 23rd has a morning window with offshore wind and 4ft, but the wind picks up hard in the afternoon.
Then it gets quiet. From Friday the 24th right through to the start of August, the swell drops to a foot or less, and the winds are all onshore or cross. There’s a flash on Sunday the 26th afternoon with a 4ft SE swell and a 12-second period, but it’s blown out. Not worth it.
Monday the 27th is a late good one. Swell 5ft from the SE, long period at 12 seconds, and a cross-offshore wind in the morning. The energy is 688. It’s clean, but the SE direction isn’t the best for this spot. Still a solid wave.
The rest of the 16 days is flat or messy. So, your best bet is Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st. Get on it.
Rusty.
