Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let's get into it. The little window we have is tight, and honestly, most of the next 16 days are a write-off. We’ve got a decent pulse of swell coming in, but the wind is going to be a real problem for most of it.
First up, the only real spot on the cards is Little Austi and Main Beach. It’s a beach and reef setup, exposed to the swell. The water temperature is sitting at 65°, which is about average for this time of year, nothing wild there.
The trouble starts right away. Tuesday the 7th kicks off with a solid 10ft SSE swell at 10 seconds, but with a 12 mph cross-shore wind, it’s going to be a messy, choppy mess. The energy is strong, hitting 2470, but it’s just not going to be surfable. That afternoon, it’s even bigger at 12ft, but the wind is even worse.
Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are a repeat performance: plenty of swell in the 6ft to 8ft range, but the wind stays cross-onshore, keeping the surface bumpy. It’s a frustrating watch.
Alright, now for the one bright spot. Friday morning, July 10th is the standout. The swell drops to a clean 5ft from the SE, with a 9-second period. The wind is forecast to be glassy. That’s the magic word. The energy is a moderate 452, and it should be clean. This is your window. It’s not huge, but it’s the only time the conditions align.
The rest of the week is a slow fade. Saturday the 11th stays clean in the morning with a light offshore, but the swell is tiny at 4ft. After that, we’re looking at a long, flat spell. From Sunday the 12th all the way through to Saturday the 19th of July, the swell is basically non-existent – we’re talking 0.3ft to 1.0ft for days on end. It’s a proper blank run.
There’s a small flicker of life on Sunday the 19th with a 3ft SSE swell and a clean cross-offshore wind, but the energy is still low (254). It’s surfable, but nothing to get excited about. The following Monday the 20th has a similar small swell with a clean offshore wind, but a strong 22 mph wind in the afternoon will spoil it.
The last few days, from the 21st onward, are completely flat. So, to sum it up: if you’re keen, be on the water Friday morning the 10th. That’s your only real chance at a decent, clean wave. The rest is a waiting game.
