Table - best surf conditions forecast for Little Austi and Main Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, lookin’ at this stretch of water. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a long, slow burn before we get any real juice.
The spot is Little Austi and Main Beach. The water temp is about average for the year, so no weirdness there. The problem is, for the first week, the wind is just a pain. A lot of cross-onshore junk.
From Sunday the 12th all the way through Saturday the 18th, it’s mostly flat or tiny, with weak, choppy conditions. Combined energy is barely breaking 60, and the swell is under 2ft. A big gap of nothing.
The first real rumble of something happens on Sunday the 19th of July. Swell jumps to 10ft from the east, period of 11 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell. The combined energy is a massive 2624 (strong to very strong). It’s still a little cross-onshore, but only a light breeze, so it’s cleaner than anything before. This is big, expert-only. The reef might hold it better than the beach.
The absolute best window, the one you want to circle, is Monday morning the 20th of July. The swell is a still-strong 8ft from the east, 10-second period, and the wind swings light offshore from the WNW. That’s clean. The energy is still 1166. For experienced surfers, this is the session. The break is *fairly consistent*, and crowds are *sometimes* a thing, but clean 8ft east swell with offshore wind is worth the company.
After that, the rest of the week has some clean, glassy mornings, but the swell drops from about 6ft down to 4ft. Good, fun waves for intermediates, but nothing with the punch of the 20th. The 22nd and 23rd mornings are glassy – dead flat calm – with a clean 5ft to 4ft east swell.
By the 25th, it’s fading back to knee-high dribble, with combined energy dropping under 200. The last few days are just small, clean leftovers.
So, bottom line: the first week is a flat, choppy mess. The champion day is Monday the 20th of July. Sunday the 19th is the big, raw alternative. The middle of the second week has some clean but smaller options. That’s the story.
Rusty.
