Table - best surf conditions forecast for Little Austi and Main Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab your wettie. It’s a quiet start for Little Austi and Main Beach. The first week is mostly flat or tiny.
The water temp sits around 65°, which is about normal for this time of year. Not much happening Monday the 13th, just some weak 0.7ft ESE swell with a 9-second period, blown out by a moderate cross-offshore breeze. Combined energy is a low 7. That’s not surf, that’s a lake ripple.
We see a gap from Tuesday right through to late Friday the 17th with no real recommendations. That stretch is dead. Thursday the 16th has a 0.3ft E swell showing up only briefly, so don't get excited.
Friday morning the 17th gets a bit interesting: a 5ft S swell turns up, but it’s short period at 6 seconds, with a moderate cross-onshore wind chopping it up. Combined energy climbs to 129 but conditions are messy. Saturday the 18th is still shabby with small, choppy ESE swell.
It isn’t until Sunday the 19th that we start seeing something decent. A 3ft E swell with an 8-second period rolls in, with light ENE winds. Combined energy jumps to 212. Conditions are marginal but it’s the best we’ve seen. Crowds are possible here.
Now, the standout is Monday the 20th of July. Morning session is the pick: a 4ft ENE groundswell at 9 seconds, combined energy of 226, with a light NNW cross-offshore breeze making it clean. That’s surfable and fun for intermediates. The wind is good, the swell direction lines up with the optimum ENE for this break. Afternoon gets a bit cross-shore and less clean.
Tuesday the 21st is ok in the morning with a gentle offshore, but the swell is dropping at 4ft. Nothing special after that. The rest of the week and into the second week is small stuff, mostly under 3ft, with a few glassy moments on the 24th and 25th of July, but the energy is weak (76 or less). You’d be scratching for a ride.
Then look at Tuesday the 28th of July. That’s a distant call, so don’t lock it in, but if it comes, we get a 7ft SSE swell at 7 seconds, combined energy of 487 – that’s strong. It will be too big for beginners and only for the experienced. Winds are clean and cross-offshore from the WSW. Conditions rated good, but the period is short, so it could be a bit of a wall. That day and the afternoon of the 28th (6ft) are the only real size in the whole outlook.
Overall, it’s a lean run. The one true standout is Monday morning, July 20th. Keep an eye on that last Tuesday in July, but don’t plan your life around it yet.
