The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with ya – the next few days ain't much to look at. Little Austi and Main Beach is gonna be dead quiet from Tuesday the 14th right through until Saturday the 18th. Water temp's sittin' around 65°, which is bang on average for July, so no excuses there – just a flat spell with a side of rubbish cross-on winds. You’re better off waxin’ the longboard for a flat day paddle or just waitin’ it out.
Now, Sunday the 19th finally shows a pulse – a bit of 5 ft swell from the ENE, but it’s messy with onshore breezes and only a marginal call. Not worth gettin’ wet for unless you’re desperate. Monday the 20th, though – that’s where things wake up. Morning session is the pick: 5 ft of ENE groundswell (10 sec period) with glassy conditions and a combined energy of 535 – moderate grunt, but clean as a whistle. Expect some decent lines and not too crowded yet. Crowds can show up sometimes, but early doors should be alright.
The real standout? That’s Thursday the 23rd. We’ve got 5 ft to 6 ft of E swell, period up to 14 seconds – proper groundswell. That’s 1040 to 1070 energy, solid. Winds go glassy or light cross-off, so the face will be smooth. This is more of an experienced surfer’s wave – it’s got some power, and with that long period, it’ll be lining up nicely on the reef sections. Could be a bit much for beginners, but for intermediates and above, get on it. Friday the 24th is still fun – 5 ft E swell with offshore NW winds in the morning, clean and punchy. Score another good session.
Then the wheels fall off again. Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th see the same 5-6 ft E swell but with howling cross-on southerlies – lumpy, choppy, and just nasty. After that it fades back to tiny and onshore for the rest of the run. So bottom line: you got a gap until Monday the 20th, then a couple of windows, with Thursday the 23rd being the absolute pick. Don’t sleep on it.
Rusty.
