The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Little Austi and Main Beach.
Truth be told, the next bit is a bit of a slow burner. We’ve got a run of poor surf and lousy conditions kicking things off today, Thursday the 16th, and it’s not until the end of the weekend that we start to see any real life in the water. There’s a solid gap of nothing worth paddling out for, with a few days of cross-onshore winds and chopped-up, messy waves. Late on Sunday the 19th, we’ll see a bit of a pulse start to build, but it’s still marginal.
The standout of the whole window lands on Monday the 20th. That’s where the magic happens. We’ve got a clean 5ft swell from the ENE with a 10-second period, and the combined wave energy is sitting at a solid 533 (moderate). The wind is a dream—light offshore from the NW in the morning, staying clean in the afternoon. This is your best bet. The water temperature is about average for the time of year.
Tuesday the 21st morning is also worth a look, with glassy conditions and a 5ft ENE swell, energy down to 395, but still clean and fun. After that, the swell slowly fades and the wind starts to mess things up again. By the end of the month, it’s tiny and mostly poor, though there’s a brief window of clean conditions on the 30th, but the swell is barely a ripple.
Overall, Monday the 20th is the clear winner. Lock that one in. If you’re a beginner, that 5ft is fine—it’s not too big. For the experts, it’s a fun, clean day. The crowds are possible at times, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
