Alright, Rusty here. Let's see what we've got.
Alright, let's be straight with you. The next couple of weeks are a real mixed bag for Little Austi and Main Beach and we've got a massive flat spell to get through. The first proper surf worth paddling out for doesn't show up until Saturday the 11th, so we're looking at a solid 6-day gap of no-go conditions before anything decent pops up.
Starting off this Sunday the 5th, it's a write-off. We've got a tiny 0.3ft easterly windswell with a bit of rain and a strong cross-onshore wind at 18.6 mph. The water temp is sitting around 65.1°, which is pretty normal for this time of year. The swell energy is just pitiful (3). Honestly, don't even bother looking at the ocean.
Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th see a big jump in size, but the quality is terrible. You're looking at a solid 9.8ft of SSE swell, but it's getting hammered by a moderate cross-onshore breeze, turning it into a choppy, lumpy mess. The combined energy is up there (1496 to 2505), but for paddle surfing, it's a no-go. If you're into kites, the strong wind and messy waves might be more interesting.
The slump continues through Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th. The swell drops a bit to 5.9ft-6.9ft, but the wind is still cross or cross-onshore, making for a bumpy, uninviting lineup. The energy is moderate (549-790).
Finally, Saturday the 11th is where we get a little glimmer. We've got a clean 4.3ft SE swell (combined energy 291) and glassy conditions in the morning with a light NW wind. It's small but clean. The best bet of the early window is Sunday the 12th of July. We score a clean 3.0ft ESE groundswell (period 11 seconds) with a gentle offshore wind from the NNW. It's small, but with the offshore breeze, Little Austi and Main Beach should have some fun, clean little lines.
Then the tap turns off again. All next week, from the 13th through the 16th, we're looking at tiny, almost non-existent swell. The best you'll see is 1.3ft with clean but weak winds. It's a proper dry spell.
Now, for the real standout – and I mean the *real* one – we have to look ahead to the following week. Saturday the 18th of July is the sneaky big one on the horizon. We're looking at a solid 9.8ft SE groundswell with a very long period (12 seconds) and light offshore NW winds. The combined energy is pumping at 2757. It's firing, but that size and period make it a big-water, expert-only zone, especially for a beach-and-reef setup like this. It'll be a bowling, powerful wave. The water might also feel a bit different come this time, given how late in the forecast this is.
Friday the 17th also gets a look-in with an 8.2ft SSE swell building to an 11.5ft SSE groundswell with a very long 15-second period by the afternoon. The wind is light and the energy is massive (4954), but the "marginal" tag suggests there might be some tide or local issues to navigate. It's another one strictly for the experienced crew. Sunday the 19th keeps the good run going with a 6.6ft SSE groundswell (period 11 seconds) and clean offshore NW winds in the morning – a very solid option for experienced surfers.
So, if you want the best on offer here, ignore this week. The real standout is Saturday the 18th of July for the experienced surfer looking for a proper, powerful groundswell with clean winds. For the smaller, cleaner, more manageable waves, the Sunday the 12th is your best bet.
