Table - best surf conditions forecast for Little Austi and Main Beach over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break it down.
First up, we’ve got a long, quiet stretch here. Little Austi and Main Beach is looking pretty flat and messy for the first several days. Wednesday the 15th through Saturday the 18th are basically a write-off – tiny surf, if any, and a persistent cross-onshore breeze keeping things choppy and uninviting. The combined energy readings are very low, barely registering.
Sunday the 19th shows a bit more life with a 7ft ENE swell rolling in, but it’s getting a "marginal" tag, likely due to tide or other factors. The wind is light and onshore, so it’s not going to be clean. Still, that’s the first real pulse of energy.
Now, the standout window kicks off on Monday morning, July 20th. That’s where we start to see the goods. We’ve got a 6ft ENE swell, with a 10-second period, and a light northerly breeze that’s cross-offshore. The combined energy is a solid 574 (moderate). Conditions are described as "clean" and the forecast expects very good surf. This is your best early bet.
The real gem, though, is Tuesday morning, July 21st. The swell holds at 5ft from the ENE, still with a 10-second period, but the wind swings to the northwest at 15 km/h, giving us a clean offshore flow. The combined energy is 518. This is the pick of the whole window for Little Austi and Main Beach – clean, offshore, and a decent size for intermediate surfers. It’s a fairly consistent spot, so you can expect some fun waves.
After that, the rest of the week and into the next sees a slow, steady decline. Wednesday afternoon the 22nd goes glassy with a 5ft ENE swell, which is a nice little session, but the size drops. By the weekend of the 26th, we’re back to smaller 3ft waves, though the occasional glassy morning (like Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th) will offer clean, small waves for a longboard or a foiler.
For the second week, from the 23rd onward, the swell stays in the 3ft to 6ft range, but the winds are more variable. The 23rd and 24th have clean mornings with a 5-6ft E swell, but the period is a bit longer (11 seconds), which can make it a bit straighter at the beach. The standout in that later period is Tuesday morning, July 28th – a 3ft E swell with a clean offshore wind from the WNW. It’s not big, but it’ll be clean and fun.
Water temp is sitting around 64°F, which is about average for this time of year – nothing unusual there.
Overall, if you’re looking for the best session, point your board at Tuesday morning, July 21st. Monday the 20th is a close second. The rest is a mixed bag of small, clean days and choppy afternoons.
