Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Righto, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at the outlook for Little Austi and Main Beach. The coming week starts rough, with a big pulse of swell but messy conditions spoiling the party. Monday morning on July 6th sees a solid 10ft swell from the SSE, but it’s arriving with a southerly cross-onwind at 15 mph, so it’s choppy and blown out – the sort of day you’d rather watch than paddle out.
Tuesday and Wednesday have size sticking around – 10ft to 8ft – but the wind is still across it, keeping the surface messy. Plenty of energy in the water (combined energy values in the 1500-2600 range), but it’s not clean enough to call it good. Thursday is a drop-off, the swell down to 7ft and the wind still cross-onshore. Not one for the board.
The first real spark comes Friday afternoon on July 10th. The wind goes glassy, with an SSE swell of 5ft and a period of 10 seconds. That’s the kind of stillness that turns a beaten-up beachbreak into something inviting. Clear skies, light air – you’ll get a window of clean, soulful little waves before the weekend crowds find it. Crowds are possible here, so grab that session if you can.
Into the weekend, early Saturday July 11th is the absolute standout. A clean 4ft SE swell with a light WNW offshore breeze, glassy and groomed. Combined energy is a modest 361, but the quality is way higher than the numbers suggest. This is the morning for a longboard or a funshape – small but perfectly shaped.
Sunday drops off fast: down to 2ft, and though the wind stays offshore, it’s gusty, and the energy is weak (141). Not worth the drive unless you’re desperate for salt.
There’s then a real flat spell from Monday July 13th through Thursday July 16th – barely a ripple. The water goes flat and clean, but that’s no good for surfing. The water temperature isn’t mentioned here, but you’ll notice it’s average for the time of year, nothing unusual.
The next real hope comes late in the run. On Friday July 17th, the swell reappears at 8ft from the SSE, but it’s cross-shore and lumpy. Not the day. However, Saturday July 18th looks like the pick of the whole outlook. A clean 7ft SE groundswell with a period of 11 seconds, light offshore wind from the NW – this is a proper session. The combined energy hits 966 – moderate to strong – and you’ve got long, clean lines. That’s the one to circle. Sunday July 19th stays fun but smaller, with a gentle offshore and 4ft of swell.
After that, it fades into tiny windswell through to Tuesday July 21st, where it’s back to 1.0ft and not worth a mention.
So the standout, clear as day, is Saturday morning July 18th for Little Austi and Main Beach. The second little pocket is Friday afternoon July 10th – glassy, clean, small but sweet.
Rusty.
