The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Little Austi and Main Beach. It’s a tale of two halves, with a promising window that’s worth circling on the calendar.
Right now, it’s a flat spell. We’re looking at a week of nothing doing. From Wednesday the 15th through to Saturday the 19th, the ocean is just a lazy blue carpet. A few tiny pulses try to show up on the Friday and Saturday, but they’re wrapped in cross-onshore winds and the energy is barely registering (combined energy of 37 to 131). For a surfer, it’s not worth the drive.
The first real sign of life arrives on Sunday the 19th. A 7ft swell from the ENE with a solid 10 to 11 second period slides in. The combined energy jumps to 842, so there’s some proper push in the water. The wind is clean onshore, so it won’t be perfect, but it’s a building block.
Now, the standout. Monday the 20th is the morning to wake up early for. The swell holds at 6ft from the ENE, but the wind swings to a light offshore from the NNW. That’s the magic combo. The sets will be clean, with a period of 10 seconds giving them some shape. The combined energy is still strong at 608. This is the best of the run. Tuesday morning the 21st is a close second, with a 5ft swell and those same offshore NNW winds, keeping it clean. The energy is a touch lower at 449, but still a great session.
Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd are still surfable, with the swell dropping from 4ft down to 3ft, but the winds are good. Wednesday morning has a light offshore from the NW, and Thursday afternoon is glassy. These are the days to grab a log or a funboard and enjoy a cruisy wave.
After that, the plug gets pulled. By Friday the 24th, the wind goes ugly and the swell fades. The rest of the outlook through to the end of the month is mostly small, weak, and choppy. There’s a tiny, very long-period groundswell on the 27th (1.0ft at 16 seconds) but it’s too small to do anything with.
So, the call is simple: the best on offer is the morning of Monday the 20th. The 6ft ENE swell with that light offshore is the cleanest, most powerful window we get. The Tuesday morning is a very solid backup. For the rest, it’s a waiting game.
Stay stoked, and don’t sleep on that Monday.
