Table - best surf conditions forecast for Austinmer Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Austinmer Beach has got cookin’ over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, the opening days are a bit of a write-off for paddle surfing unless you’re a seasoned charger – and even then, it’s a messy scene. The first real chance of anything rideable gets going Saturday the 11th. Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are pretty much out because the swell is just too big for this break, pushin’ 8 ft from the SE, combined wave energy is massive (1417) and it’s cross-shore with a chop. Come Friday the 10th it’s still marginal with the swell droppin’ to 5 ft from the SE, but the wind is light and cleanin’ up a bit. Not worth paddlin’ out yet.
Saturday the 11th morning is where it starts to look okay – we’ve got a 3 ft SE swell with light offshore NW wind at 10 km/h, so it’ll be clean. Combined energy is moderate at 263. That afternoon drops to 2 ft from the ESE but with a longer 11-second period, makin’ it a bit more fun on a log. Not a standout, but a good session for beginners or a cruisy one. Sunday the 12th onward the swell really fades, with 2 ft or less for days – clean but tiny, and by Tuesday the 14th it’s practically flat.
Now, the real standout is actually comin’ up around Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 19th. That’s the one to circle. Saturday the 18th is too big again at 8 ft from the ESE (1481 energy) – too much for this beach for most of us. But Sunday morning the 19th is the pick of the whole forecast: we’ve got 6 ft from the ESE, combined energy at 800 (moderate-strong), period at 9 seconds – not super long but fair – and a light offshore/cross-offshore W breeze at 10 km/h. Water temp is about 65°, which is pretty average for this time of year, so nothin’ wild there. Sunday afternoon holds up at 5 ft from the SSE, still clean, and the energy sits at 603. The break itself is a beach, exposed to the east and SE, and crowds are *sometimes* a thing, so you might have a few locals out but nothing crazy. It’s fairly consistent, which is good.
Monday the 20th morning bumps up again to 8 ft from the ESE with 11-second period and light NW offshore, but that’s gettin’ into expert-only territory for this spot. Too big for the average punter. The rest of the second week sees a few pulses – Tuesday the 21st, Thursday the 23rd – but those are 8 ft to 12 ft from the SSE with strong cross-shore winds and messy as hell. Combined energy is through the roof (2675, 3503), so there’s plenty of grunt, but it’s wind-affected and too big for a comfortable session here. More a kite surfing day than a paddle day, honestly.
So to sum it up: the 16-day run’s pretty rough early and late, but Sunday the 19th is the one true standout – clean, manageable size, and good vibes. Don’t sleep on it.
Rusty.
