The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. Look, I’ll be straight with you – the next few days are a write-off. Tuesday the 14th has got the tiniest little 0.3ft south swell, it’s not even worth paddling out for. You’re looking at a gap of a few days with nothing to recommend.
Wednesday the 15th kicks up to an 8ft south swell, but that’s too much grunt for a beginner-friendly spot like Austinmer Beach. Combined wave energy is a hefty 2174 (strong), but the wind is cross-shore and messy. It’s a pass for me.
The first real chance of a wave comes Thursday the 23rd of July. The morning session is the standout. We’ve got a clean 6ft easterly swell with a long 12-second period – that’s proper groundswell with more push and shape. The water temp is about 65°, which is normal for this time of year. The wind is a light southwesterly, giving us a clean, cross-off breeze. The combined energy sits at 851 (moderate-strong). This is the best on offer, and the calm conditions will make it feel like you have the place to yourself.
Friday the 24th of July morning is another solid one. Similar story: 6ft east swell, 12-second period, and a light northwesterly wind keeping it glassy. Wave energy is 821 (moderate-strong). It’s a very close second to Thursday.
Saturday the 25th of July morning keeps the run going with a clean 5ft east swell and a light offshore from the west-northwest. Energy is 742 (moderate-strong). Solid.
Sunday the 26th of July morning is the last of the top-tier mornings. The swell drops a touch to 5ft east, but it’s clean with a light westerly wind. Energy is 556 (moderate).
After that, the swell slowly fades into the 28th and 29th, with smaller, cleaner but less powerful waves. The 28th still offers some fun 4ft east swell with offshore winds, so keep it on the radar.
Rusty.
