Table - best surf conditions forecast for Austinmer Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s chew the fat on what Austinmer Beach is serving up over the next 16 days.
Right off the bat, it’s a slow start. The first few days are small and messy, nothing to get your heart racing. The real energy shows up around the middle of the month with a big southerly pulse, but it’s a beast that’s too big for the beach break. The standout is a clean morning later on.
We kick off Friday, July 10th, with a 5ft swell from the SE at 9 seconds, but the wind is cross and the conditions are just okay. The water is about 65°, which is normal for this time of year. Saturday the 11th drops to 4ft, but the morning has a clean, cross-off breeze from the NW – that’s your best chance for a small, tidy wave if you’re a beginner. It breaks fairly consistently, but you might run into a few others out there.
Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 14th is flat out dead – tiny, weak waves with energy dropping to as low as 6 (weak). That’s a few days of nothing.
Then the switch flips. Wednesday the 15th afternoon, a 10ft S swell at 8 seconds hits, but the wind is cross and lumpy, and the energy jumps to 1122 (moderate). The problem is this swell is way too big for Austinmer Beach – over 8ft, it’s expert-only territory. Same story for Thursday the 16th (8-8ft, SSE, 7 seconds) and Friday the 17th (12ft, ESE, 11 seconds). The energy is massive, hitting 5126 on Friday, but the wind is cross-onshore, making it choppy and bumpy. These are big, gnarly, messy days.
Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th still have solid 7-8ft ESE swell, with energy over 1000, but the wind is light and cross-off on Sunday morning, which cleans it up a little. Still, it’s big and heavy – only for the brave.
There’s a gap of smaller, cleaner waves from Monday the 20th to Wednesday the 22nd, with 4-5ft ESE swell and light cross-off breezes. The energy is moderate (around 340-562), and the conditions are clean, but the waves are just average.
The real standout is Friday the 24th of July. The morning brings a 5ft E swell, 10 seconds, with a clean cross-off breeze from the WSW and energy of 873 (moderate). The water is still about normal, and the forecast is for very good surf. This is your window – clean, punchy, and good for intermediates and up. You might have some company, so get there early.
Saturday the 25th also has 5ft ESE swell, but the period drops to 8 seconds, and the cross-off wind is still light, offering decent but not as good waves.
So, bottom line: the big swell mid-month is too heavy for most, but the morning of Friday the 24th is the one to chase. The rest is mostly small or average. Austinmer Beach is fairly consistent, so it won’t stay quiet for long.
Rusty.
