Table - best surf conditions forecast for Austinmer Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Austinmer Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, the next few days are a write-off. We’re looking at a gap of quiet, weak conditions from Saturday the 11th through to Tuesday the 14th. There’s just no swell to speak of – tiny wave heights and next to no energy. Don’t bother paddling out; you’ll be floating around more than surfing.
Things start to stir on Wednesday the 15th. Overnight, a southerly swell pushes in, bringing chest-high waves around 6 ft. The period is a middling 10 seconds, so not a proper groundswell, but the energy jumps up. That said, the wind swings southerly and cross-shore, so the surface is going to be a bit scratchy and uneven. It’s a step up, but it’s marginal. Thursday looks similar, with a bit of chop on the afternoon. Not a standout.
Now, if you can wait, the real action is on the Monday the 20th. This is the pick of the whole period for Austinmer. You’ve got a solid 6 ft easterly swell, with a nice 10-second period pushing good energy. More importantly, the wind swings offshore from the west-northwest, blowing clean into the face. That means smooth, peeling lines, especially in the morning. Crowds can be an issue here sometimes, so get in early. That morning session is the one.
After that, the swell builds. By Tuesday the 21st, we’re looking at 7 ft from the east, but that’s getting into the range that’s too much for a beginner. For the experienced crew, there’s potential, especially with a long 11-second period. But the size and some cloud cover make it less of a pure highlight than the Monday.
Late in the window, around Wednesday the 22nd, there’s another chance. The swell drops back to a manageable 6 ft, and the wind goes glassy in the morning – dead calm. That’s as good as it gets for clean conditions, but by then we’re in the second week, so keep an eye on the forecasts. The end of the month sees the swell dropping off again into smaller, less exciting surf.
So, bottom line: Monday the 20th morning is your golden ticket. Offshore wind, chest-high easterly swell, and good energy. Mark it.
Rusty.
