The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Alright, so we've got a bit of a slow start, but things are looking up. The first decent session kicks off on Monday, the 20th of July. The overall pattern is a mix of smaller clean days early on, building into a serious pulse of southerly swell at the end of the month that's going to be way too much for this spot.
The standout for the whole period, and the one you want to circle, is the morning of Sunday, the 26th of July. The wind is going to be completely glassy, dead calm, and the swell is a solid 5ft from the S with a moderate energy of 444. That's going to be the cleanest, most fun wave of the week. The water temp is about average for this time of year. It's a beginner-friendly break, but that morning, it'll be a joy for anyone.
Before that, the Monday morning (20th) is also a solid pick, with a 5ft ENE swell and a clean cross-off breeze. The combined energy is a solid 723, so there's plenty of push. You'll have to share the peak though, as it can get a bit crowded sometimes.
After that Sunday glass-off, the surf drops off for a bit. Tuesday morning (28th) has a tiny 2ft SSE swell, but then things get interesting. The end of July and into August sees a massive southerly swell train come through. On Thursday the 30th of July, we're looking at 11ft to 13ft S swell with a very long period of 13 seconds and a combined energy of 8046. That's pumping but it's a warning – this is expert territory only. The swell is too big for this beach break, so unless you're a seasoned charger, give it a miss. The same goes for the days following, with 8ft to 10ft southerly swells continuing through the 1st and 2nd of August. The morning of the 2nd of August is glassy, but with a 7ft SSE swell, it's still a bit much for the average punter.
The window does start to open again on Monday the 3rd of August, with a 6ft SSE swell dropping back into a more manageable size, but the wind is a light cross-on, so it's nothing to write home about.
So, to sum it up: the absolute best bet is the glassy Sunday morning on the 26th of July. If you miss that, the Monday morning the 20th is your next best, clean option. The end of the run is a big, powerful, and dangerous swell for the experts only.
Rusty.
