Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break it down for the next couple of weeks.
Saturday morning the 4th of July is the only real window for a paddle. Austinmer Beach has a clean 3ft S swell with a 12-second period, and the wind is WSW cross-off at 9 mph. The water’s sitting at 66°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (235). It’s small but fun for a beginner-friendly beach break. Crowds can show up sometimes.
Saturday afternoon the 4th goes bad – wind swings SE and crosses on, period drops to a weak 8 seconds. No good.
From Sunday the 5th through Friday the 10th, it’s all too big. Swells run from 7ft to 12ft, energy readings in the thousands (1537, 1986, 2610...). Wind is mostly cross or cross-on at 12 to 16 mph. For a beginner beach break, that’s way too powerful. Leave it for experts or kite surfers.
Saturday the 11th of July is the standout. Morning has a 5ft SSE swell with a 10-second period, light SW wind at 3 mph making it clean, energy at 378 – moderate but manageable. Afternoon gets glassy with a 4ft SSE swell and 9-second period. Clean, small, and fun. Crowds sometimes, but worth it.
Sunday the 12th is ordinary – morning has a tiny 3ft SE swell with light NW cross-off wind. Afternoon drops to 2ft with onshore wind. Not worth it.
Monday the 13th is flat – 1ft ESE swells with a 11-second period in the morning and offshore wind from the west. Energy is weak (53). Afternoon is even smaller (46). Barely breaking.
Tuesday the 14th through Sunday the 19th, the swell returns hard. Tuesday morning sees 10ft S swells with cross-off wind, energy at 1897. Too big for a beginner break. By Saturday the 18th, we’ve got 12ft SSE swells with a 11-second period and energy at 5476. That’s massive power. Strictly for experts.
Sunday the 19th morning is glassy with a 10ft SSE swell and 10-second period – looks incredible but only for pros. Afternoon brings an 8ft SE swell with a light onshore breeze from the ENE.
So the standout is Saturday the 11th – both sessions. Small, clean, glassy in the arvo. Everything else is either flat, too big, or blown out. Long-range stuff around the 18th–19th is for advanced crew only.
Rusty.
