Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s chew over what Austinmer Beach has cookin’ in the next couple weeks. Gotta be honest – the start is rough, but if you can wait, there’s a payoff.
Water temp’s about 65°, dead average for this time of year. No drama there.
Monday the 6th? Forget it. A southerly wind at 16 mph cross-on is gonna shred that 8 ft SSE swell. The combined energy is strong at 1306, but with that wind, it’s garbage.
Tuesday the 7th is a tease. Swell jumps to 10 ft in the morning (3849 energy) and 12 ft in the arvo (4750 energy) – both very strong. Wind is cross, not straight on, but over 8 ft is expert-only here. Way too big for most. Same story Wednesday the 8th with 8 ft and 8 ft swells. Energy still strong (1457 and 2274), but unless you’re a charger, stay on the sand.
Thursday the 9th fades. Swell drops to 6 ft with moderate energy (834) and cross to cross-on wind. Only marginal.
Now Friday the 10th is a glimmer. Swell holds at 5 ft from the southeast with moderate energy (392 morning, 441 afternoon). But the wind is glassy. Dead calm. That’ll give you clean, silky waves. Period is 9 to 10 seconds, so not a thunderous groundswell, but for a longboard or a funboard session, this is your best early call. Saturday the 11th stays clean with 4 ft to 3 ft waves and light cross-off winds. Small but tidy.
Sunday the 12th drops to 3 ft with a moderate offshore from the west. Clean but tiny. Energy is weak to low moderate (171 and 101). Barely worth the walk.
From Monday the 13th through Thursday the 16th, it’s a dead zone. Swells under 3 ft, energy mostly in the double digits (weak). Wind is often clean, but there’s just no push. That’s a solid four-day gap with nothin’ doin’.
Then Friday the 17th. That’s the one. A solid 7 ft southerly swell rolls in with very strong energy (1385). The period is 11 seconds – decent. But the real magic is the offshore wind from the northwest, glassy in the morning. That’s clean, groomed, lined-up surf. It’s over 5 ft, so beginners will struggle, but for experienced surfers, that Friday morning window is the best moment of the whole outlook. Strong energy, perfect wind, real quality.
Saturday the 18th is okay: 5 ft dropping to 3 ft, clean cross-off winds in the morning. Sunday the 19th holds clean 4 ft to 4 ft with light winds. Then Monday the 20th gets messy, and Tuesday the 21st brings another 10 ft southerly swell with very strong energy (1725 and 1955) – but again, that’s only for the experts. Too much for this beach.
So here’s the takeaway: first week is a grind. If you want still, clean waves, hit Friday the 10th. But the real standout is Friday the 17th morning – that offshore, 7 ft swell is the one to mark on the calendar. It’s a ways out, so don’t take it to the bank, but right now it looks like the best of the bunch.
