Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, grab your wettie, I’m gonna walk you through what’s showing up for Austinmer Beach over the next couple of weeks. I won’t sugarcoat it – the start of this period is a bit of a rough one.
Right off the bat, from Monday the 6th of July right through to Thursday the 9th, we’ve got a proper winter swell pushing in, with wave heights sitting between 8 ft and 10 ft. That’s well into the "experts only" territory for this beach, especially for beginners. The swell’s coming from the SSE and SE, around 10 seconds apart, which is a pretty average period. The combined swell energy is pinging high – think anywhere from 1220 up to 3723 – so there’s plenty of grunt in the water, but the wind is all cross-shore and cross-onshore, which is gonna leave it choppy and a bit messy. The water temp is about average for this time of year. Honestly, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing through these days.
We finally get a break from the size on Friday the 10th. Swell drops to about 5 ft from the SE, still a bit lumpy in the morning, but the Friday afternoon session is your first real sniff of something decent – the wind goes glassy. That’s a rare, clean window. Swell energy drops to 439, so it’s moderate, but you’ll get a few fun ones.
Saturday the 11th morning looks promising. We see a 4 ft SE swell with the wind swinging offshore from the WNW, light at 3 mph – that’s clean, lined-up waves. Combined energy is 353, so it's weak, but the quality will be there for a longboard or a fish. Just a heads up: the break can get crowded sometimes, so get in early.
After that, we hit a proper flat spell. From Sunday the 12th through to Tuesday the 14th, the swell drops to nothing – 0.7 ft to 3 ft, with combined energy as low as 11. It’s clean but tiny, barely surfable. You’d be scratching for a wave.
Then, from Wednesday the 15th, we see the swell kick back up again, but it’s the same story – too big for this beach. 7 ft to 10 ft from the S and SSE, energy climbing back into the 1000–1700 range. Winds are messy and cross-shore, so it’s a pass for most.
The real standout of the whole outlook comes on Saturday the 18th of July. This is your best bet. The morning session shows a 6 ft SE groundswell with a long 11-second period, and the wind is light offshore from the NW at just 3 mph – clean as a whistle. Combined energy is 866, so moderate, but the wave quality should be top notch, especially if you can hunt for a sandbank or a point setup. This is the one to circle on the calendar, but remember it’s a week and a half away, so keep an eye on updates.
After that, Sunday the 19th fades to smaller 4 ft stuff, and by Monday the 20th, we’re back to tiny 1 ft junk. There’s a massive 15 ft pulse showing up on Tuesday the 21st, but that’s an immediate “too big” for this spot – only for the absolute crazies.
So, the takeaway: we’ve got a few workable windows, but Saturday the 18th morning is the clear winner. Keep your expectations in check, and if you’re a beginner, stay out of the water until the size drops under 5 ft. Crowds are always a possibility here, but on the good days, it’s worth the paddle.
Stay stoked.
