Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for Austinmer Beach.
Alright, so we’ve got a real mixed bag ahead for the next couple weeks. The first week is pretty much a write-off for paddle surfing, but there are some promising clean sessions lurking in the second week. The water temp is sitting at 66°F, which is about 2°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s already noticeable, so it’s a touch on the warm side for a winter dip.
The first decent surf worth paddling out for shows up on Saturday morning the 11th of July. That morning you’ll find a 4ft swell from the SE, with a period of 9 seconds. The wind will be light cross-offshore from the NW, and it’s clean (combined energy of 302). The afternoon holds a similar vibe: 4ft from the SE, with a gentle cross-offshore breeze, and still clean.
But the real standout this far out? That’s Sunday morning the 12th of July. It’s going to be clean with moderate offshore wind from the WNW, a tidy 3ft swell from the ESE at 10 seconds. That’s a proper glassy setup and the combined energy sits at 260 – not huge, but with offshore wind, that break will be offering up some fun, organised lines. This is the best on offer for the whole run.
Now, if you look later into the second week, we’ve got another really promising session brewing for Sunday morning the 19th of July. A 5ft swell from the ESE, but the period jumps to a very long 13 seconds – that’s groundswell energy coming through (combined energy of 752). With a light offshore breeze from the WNW, it’ll be clean. That long period will make the waves shape up nicely but might be a bit straight for the beach break; still, at this size, it’s well worth checking.
Most of this first week is blown out with strong onshore winds, or the swell is just too big for Austinmer Beach – like 10ft and above, which is expert territory for this exposed, beginner-friendly spot. Expect crowds here, it’s a popular beach and it can get busy at times, especially on a clean swell.
So to wrap it up: miss the first several days – they’re a mess. The run from the 11th to the 12th gives you that clean, small offshore window, and then the 19th looks like it could be a real treat with that long-period groundswell.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
