Table - best surf conditions forecast for Austinmer Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple weeks down at Austinmer Beach.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: the next week is a tough one. This is one of those periods where you’re better off fixing your dings or going for a fish. It’s a long, flat, and blown-out stretch. The first real chance of anything even resembling a surf is a week from now, so we're looking at a solid gap with no real recommendations. For an exposed beach like this, that's just how it goes sometimes.
Let’s run through the week ahead to get it over with. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are basically a waste of time. Tiny, weak 0.6 ft to 0.3 ft south swells with clean but empty lines on Monday, and Tuesday drops off to almost nothing. Wednesday the 15th morning is the first proper swell, a solid 7 ft southerly, but that’s trouble. The energy is strong, but the report flat-out says it's too big for this break. On top of that, the wind is cross-shore, so it’s going to be a mess. After that, it’s a downhill slide of deteriorating, choppy, and weak surf right through to Saturday the 19th.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. After a long dry spell, Sunday morning, July 19th is your standout. The stars align briefly. We’ve got a 4 ft easterly swell and the wind is dead glassy – NE at 5 km/h (3 mph). That’s the kind of clean, silky surface you dream about. The swell period is 9 seconds, so it’s got a bit of shape, not just whitewash. It's a beginner-friendly 4 ft, so it won’t be too intimidating, just fun. Keep an eye on the crowds though, because this spot can get picked over when it’s this clean.
Monday morning, July 20th is another solid look, maybe even the second best of the run. Similar 4 ft to 4 ft easterly swell, but with a NNW cross-offshore breeze keeping it clean. The period ticks up to 10 seconds on the afternoon, giving it a touch more grunt. That’s a lovely way to start the work week if you can sneak out.
The following days settle back into smaller, more ordinary conditions. Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd offer some clean mornings with glassy or light offshore wind, but the swell drops below 3 ft, and the energy is weak. Surfable, but nothing to write home about. From the 23rd through the 28th, it’s a repeat of small, weak, and often choppy conditions, with the occasional clean moment that barely qualifies as a wave. It’s a real summer-style pattern in the middle of July.
So, to wrap it up: hold out for Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th. That’s the best of it this far out. The rest is for the dedicated or the kite surfers, because that bigger swell on the 15th is going to be messy and too much for the paddle.
Rusty.
