Table - best surf conditions forecast for Austinmer Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag coming at Austinmer Beach over the next couple of weeks. The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is spot on average for this time of year, nothing unusual there. Let’s paint the picture from the top.
We start off on Wednesday the 8th of July, but it’s a no-go. A solid 7 ft SE swell with a period of 10 seconds, and a combined swell energy of 1290 (strong to very strong wave energy), but the wind’s a cross-shore at 12 mph, and the sets are just too meaty for this beach – more suited to a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. Skip it.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are flat and messy. Swell drops to around 5 ft, but with cross and cross-onshore winds, it’s a marginal mess. The energy drops to between 474 and 721 (moderate), but the conditions aren’t worth the paddle out.
Now, Saturday the 11th of July is where it gets interesting. Early morning, we’ve got a light 3 ft SE swell, period of 9 seconds, with a light offshore from the NW at 3 mph. The combined swell energy is 265 (moderate), and it’s clean. Later in the afternoon, swell drops to 2 ft from the ESE with an 11-second period, a cross-offshore breeze from the north at 6 mph, and it’s glassy. This is the best of the first week. Small, clean waves, perfect for beginners or a log. Crowds are possible here, so get in early.
Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are a write-off. Swell down to 0.7 ft to 2 ft, strong westerly winds, energy below 104 (weak). Not worth suiting up. This flat spell runs right through to Wednesday the 15th morning.
On Wednesday the 15th of July, the morning brings a 3 ft S swell, 9-second period, and a light offshore from the NW. Clean, but only 162 energy (moderate). It’s surfable but very ordinary. Then the afternoon kicks up to a 8 ft S swell with a short 7-second period and a cross-onshore wind – too big and junky for this break.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th turn ugly. A big 10 ft SSE swell on Thursday, with 19 mph cross-onshore winds and lumpy mess. Energy at 974 (strong). It’s all blown out. Friday and Saturday bring rain, strong winds, and poor surf.
The second week is lean. Sunday the 19th sees a 8 ft SSE swell with onshore winds and 1229 energy – not surfable. By Monday the 20th, it’s still onshore and marginal. Then on Tuesday the 21st of July, morning looks promising: a 5 ft SE swell, 10-second period, with a light offshore from the NW. Clean, with 471 energy (moderate). This is a decent window for a morning session, though it’s a week and a half away, so treat it as promising but uncertain.
Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd are small and clean but insignificant. Swell under 3 ft, light winds, but weak energy (131 to 227). Not a standout.
Overall, the clear winner is Saturday the 11th of July, with a clean, small SE groundswell and glassy conditions. The other option is Tuesday the 21st morning, but that’s a long-range call. For now, I’d pencil in that Saturday.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
