Table - best surf conditions forecast for Austinmer Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break it down in feet and miles per hour.
Honestly, if you’re hanging out for a proper wave, you’re gonna be waiting a while. From Monday the 13th right through the middle of the week, the surf is tiny. We’re talking ankle-snappers – 0.3ft to 0.7ft of short period S swell. The wind is offshore and clean on the Monday and Tuesday mornings, but there’s just no energy behind it. The combined swell energy is barely registering (down around 3 to 18). It’s a flat spell, pure and simple.
Things change on Wednesday the 15th. The swell kicks up to 6ft from the south, with a period of 10 seconds, and the energy jumps to 550. That’s a solid window of moderate energy. But the wind is cross-onshore from the S or SSE. It’s light, but it’s enough to put a bump on the face. The morning session is “marginal.” Thursday the 16th has a similar story – 6ft in the morning with moderate energy (660) but a cross-shore wind chopping it up.
Friday and Saturday drop right back off into weak, short-period slop.
Here’s where we get hope. By Monday the 20th of July, we see an ENE swell. The size sits around 4ft with a 9-second period, and the combined energy is a solid 282. The wind on Monday morning is a clean cross-offshore from the NNW. The score says to expect “good surf conditions.” That Monday morning is probably the best bet.
After that, it’s a mix. The swell holds around 2ft to 4ft from the ENE, but the wind is often onshore. There’s a standout on Sunday the 26th of July – the swell is only 3ft but it’s an E swell with a long 12-second period, and the morning is glassy. Light rain, no wind. The energy is 201. That’s a sneaky good session for a log.
If you’re chasing the biggest wave, Wednesday the 15th has the height (6ft) but the wind is junk. The true standout for a clean surf is Monday the 20th of July in the morning, or that glassy Sunday the 26th.
This is Rusty, signing off.
