Table - best surf conditions forecast for Austinmer Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up for Austinmer Beach over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag on the cards. The early part of the period is plagued by wind and questionable conditions, but there are a few windows where things clean up, especially if you’re patient. The combined swell energy is moderate to strong at times, hitting 721 on Thursday morning, but the cross-shore wind messes it up.
Thursday morning, July 9th, sees a 5ft SE swell with 10-second period, but a cross-shore wind from the SSW at 9 mph makes it choppy. It’s a no-go for me. The afternoon is much the same, with the energy dropping to 569. Friday morning, July 10th, is still pretty average. The standout in this first week is Friday afternoon, July 10th. The wind goes glassy from the ESE at just 3 mph, and the swell holds at 5ft from the SE with a 10-second period and combined energy of 474. That’s your best bet for a clean, fun session. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Saturday, July 11th, offers some hope with a smaller 4ft SE swell in the morning and clean offshore NW wind at 6 mph. By afternoon, it drops to 3ft from the ESE, but the 11-second period gives it some shape. Crowds are possible here, so keep an eye out.
From Sunday, July 12th, through to the middle of the following week, the surf nosedives. Swell drops below 2ft, with weak energy readings in the double digits. It’s flat or near-flat, and not worth paddling out for. That’s a solid five-day gap with no recommendations.
Then things get interesting again, but in a heavy way. By Wednesday afternoon, July 15th, a strong S swell arrives, pushing 8ft with a 9-second period and combined energy of 1642. Problem is, the wind is howling from the SSW at 25 mph cross-shore. It’s messy and only for the brave. Thursday, July 16th, is even bigger with a 10ft S swell (energy 2010), but a 34 mph near-gale cross-shore wind makes it dangerous. This is expert-only territory, and frankly, the conditions are poor for surfing. If you see that setup, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The following Sunday, July 19th morning, brings a brief respite: a 4ft S swell with clean cross-offshore wind from the SW at 9 mph. The energy is 243, and the break cleans up nicely. That’s another little highlight. Monday, July 20th, holds a 3ft S swell with a nice long 12-second period and clean cross-offshore wind. The afternoon session looks good.
After that, the swell fades again into the last week of July, with tiny waves and poor conditions until the very end. The 24th of July morning shows a glassy 2ft S swell with 10-second period and combined energy of 70, but it’s pretty ordinary.
So, overall: don’t get too excited for the next few days. The real standout is Friday afternoon, July 10th, for clean, glassy 5ft waves. The second highlight is Sunday morning, July 19th, for clean surf on a smaller swell. The big stuff mid-month is wild and not user-friendly.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
