Table - best surf conditions forecast for Austinmer Beach over the next 16 days.
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next little while.
The next couple of days are flat as a pancake, so I’d give the board a rest till midweek. The first real pulse comes in on Wednesday, 15 July, but it’s a big one and it’s not for the faint-hearted. Thursday and Friday aren’t much better, with messy conditions and poor surf. There’s a bit of a gap here, but hang tight—things start to look interesting from Sunday, 19 July.
Now, for the standout. Mark down Sunday, 19 July morning at Austinmer Beach. The swell is a solid 6 ft with a nice long period of 11 seconds swinging from the east, and the wind is a slight offshore from the northwest. That combo is going to produce clean, punchy waves. The combined energy of all swells directed here is 852 (moderate wave energy), so there’s proper grunt in the water. This is a beginner-friendly break, but with that size and long period, it’s more of a fun longboard or mid-length wave for the average surfer. Crowds are possible here, so be ready to share.
The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing out of the ordinary.
Monday, 20 July keeps the quality going. Monday morning sees 6 ft of east swell with a 15 km/h offshore breeze from the west-northwest. The combined energy is 672 (moderate wave energy). The wind will keep it clean, and the easterly direction lines up nicely with the break’s optimum. Good clean waves again.
Tuesday, 21 July looks like it’s going to be a bit too big for the average punter, with 8 ft of long-period east-southeast swell and that same long period of 12 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 1574 (strong wave energy). That’s proper groundswell. It’s an expert-only day, and the long period might make it a bit roly-poly at this beach break. Still, if you’re a seasoned local, it’s worth a look.
Thursday, 23 July offers another highlight. Thursday morning is glassy as—no wind at all, just a light 6 ft east-southeast swell with a 10-second period. The combined energy is 649 (moderate wave energy). This is a beautiful, clean, fat wave for the early riser.
Friday, 24 July is also worth a mention. Friday afternoon sees 5 ft of southeast swell, 10-second period, and glassy conditions. The combined energy is 419 (moderate wave energy). A nice little session to wrap up the week.
After that, it trails off into smaller, less consistent surf as we head into the following week. The long-range stuff on Saturday and Sunday (25-26 July) is small and marginal—not worth getting wet for.
The bottom line: the best of the bunch is Sunday morning, 19 July, with Monday morning, 20 July, a close second. If you can only get out once, make it those two windows.
Rusty.
