The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's chew the fat on what's coming for Austinmer Beach.
It's a slow burner, to be honest. The first few days are a write-off with small, choppy junk. Gotta be patient.
The first real sign of life shows up on Sunday the 19th. We're looking at a 6ft swell from the ENE, with a solid 10-11 second period and moderate energy (786). The wind is a light cross-shore, which is good, but the forecast is only calling it marginal, so keep your expectations in check.
The no-brainer, the session you set your alarm for, is Monday the 20th. The morning is clean. A 5ft ENE swell with a 10-second period, and a light cross-offshore wind from the NNW. The water temp is about 64°, which is about average. The combined energy is moderate (542), and the waves should be holding up well. That's the pick of the entire outlook.
Tuesday the 21st morning is also a beauty, with glassy conditions and a 4ft ENE swell. The energy is lower (337), but if you're after a clean, cruisy session, that's your window.
Jumping ahead, there's a solid pulse of S/SSE swell due around the 29th. The morning of the 29th shows a 6ft S swell with a short 8-second period and moderate energy (770), blown clean by a moderate cross-offshore. The afternoon of the 29th is the second big highlight: a 6ft SSE swell with a longer 11-second period, clean offshore wind from the NW, and a good energy reading (799). That's a proper session.
Now, the 31st of July morning is a different beast. We're looking at an 8ft S swell with a massive energy reading of 2419. That's a ton of power. The wind is clean, but that's way too big for a beginner break like this. That's for the experienced crew only, and only if you know where the sandbars are. The afternoon drops to 7ft, but the wind is ripping at 19 mph, making it a messy, blown-out affair.
The 1st of August sees it drop to a more manageable 5ft SSE swell, but the conditions are just ordinary.
So, to wrap it up: Monday the 20th morning is your top pick for clean, fun waves. The afternoon of the 29th is the other standout, offering more power and size. The 31st is big, but it's a game for the experts only.
Rusty, out.
