The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening at Le Lido. This is a break that *rarely breaks*, so you already know the drill – patience is a virtue, or you’re chasing something else. The water is sitting at 81°F, which is a full 7°F warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s very unusual, so if you’re paddling out, expect bathwater conditions.
Right now and for the next few days, there is nothing on offer. We’re looking at a long, flat spell. The first whisper of anything surfable doesn’t show up until Monday, August 17th morning, and even then it’s just a tiny 2ft west swell with a short period of 4 seconds. The combined energy is weak, at just (9). The wind is a messy cross-shore, so it’s not going to be pretty.
By Monday afternoon, the swell nudges up to 4ft from the west, period still short at 5 seconds, and energy climbs to a still-modest (61). But the wind is up to 25 mph cross-shore, making for a rough, choppy surface. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle session.
There are a few tiny windows around August 20th and 21st with some 1ft to 2ft swells from the southwest, but the wind is either cross-off or cross-on, and quality remains poor. The energy numbers are all low, in the single digits or teens. Truth be told, nothing in this 16-day window looks worth paddling for.
The breaks at Le Lido are rarely consistent, so a blank run like this is normal for the area. The only real action is the wind for the kites, or waiting for a freak glassy morning that might bring a ripple. But today? Don’t bother.
As always, forecasts can change, but right now, it’s looking like a long wait.
