Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kealia over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for our local stretch.
Alright, straight up, I gotta be honest with you. This next couple of weeks is looking pretty grim for a proper paddle. We've got a 16-day window here, but the first solid chunk of it is a write-off. From the 12th of July all the way through to the morning of the 27th of July, the conditions are just plain poor. That's a solid two-week gap with nothing worth your time. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, the swell is short-period and messy, and the wave comment is constantly "poor surf conditions". It's a real bummer.
The only flicker of light in this whole forecast comes right at the very end. On Monday the 27th of July, we finally see a change. Kealia (beach and reef) gets a mention as a possible go. We're looking at a small but interesting swell. The morning shows a clean 3 ft from the east, but the kicker is the period – a very long 15 seconds. That's proper groundswell energy. The combined energy is moderate (596), and the wind is a light 6 mph from the ENE, which is straight offshore. That'll groom the face beautifully. The water temp is sitting at 79°F, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Now, the afternoon of the 27th is a bit more iffy. The swell drops to 3 ft, and the wind swings NE and picks up, becoming a gentle cross-onshore, which will chop it up a bit. So the morning window is your best bet. Remember, with that super long period, it's a groundswell. At a beach and reef setup, those long lines can sometimes close out or break a bit straight, so keep your eyes peeled for the right bank. It's a fairly consistent spot, but it does get crowded often, so expect company.
But honestly, as a standout, this is the only real option on the table. It's a promising little window, but it's a week and a half away, so don't set your watch by it. The rest of the fortnight is a right-off for surfing. If the wind stays up and the swell is junky, honestly, this setup might be more interesting for the kite crew than us paddlers.
Stay patient, lads.
