The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be real about this one. It’s a tough stretch for Jupiter Inlet South Jetty. Over the next 16 days, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing. The swell is tiny, the wind is nearly always on it or cross-onshore, and the energy is just plain weak. There’s no standout surf window, no sneaky good day. The whole 16-day run is a blank.
From Wednesday 15 July right through to Thursday 30 July, every single session is rated as poor surf. The biggest swell height we see is a paltry 3 ft but that’s paired with a short period of 5 seconds and a messy cross-onshore wind. The combined energy of all swells is very weak, almost always in the single digits or low teens, with the highest reading we get being 35 (that’s weak energy, folks). The swell direction is mostly from the NE or ENE, which is actually the optimum direction for this spot, but the size is just too small to do anything with it.
The water temp is about 86°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so no surprises there. For a break that’s fairly consistent, this is a dead period. The best you could hope for is a flukey peak on the Thursday morning of 16 July when we get a whisper of offshore wind from the WNW at 6 mph and a tiny 1 ft swell, but it’s still just a non-event. If you’re desperate, you could paddle out on the glassy Wednesday morning of 15 July with 2 ft of NE swell, but it’s ankle-biters.
Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on the afternoons when the SE wind picks up to 12-15 mph and the waves get choppy, but for a surfer, it’s a long wait. The forecast can always change, but as it stands, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
