The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get the skinfeel out of the way first. The water is sitting right around 86°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing freaky going on there.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this 16-day window is a tough one for Jupiter Inlet South Jetty. We’re looking at a long stretch of flat to very small, weak surf. The wave energy is just anemic, with combined energy values barely cracking double digits most days (12, 17, 26, 29). You’re not gonna find any real push out there.
The first few days are a write-off. Saturday the 18th through Thursday the 24th offer nothing but knee-high slop. The swell is coming from the SSE and SE, but it’s short-period windswell of only 4 seconds, which is just junk. On top of that, the wind is mostly cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy.
We do get a little shift starting Friday the 25th morning. The swell direction swings to the ENE with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy bumps up to 42. Still small – only 1 ft – but it’s a slight improvement. The real highlight of the whole 16-day run is Sunday the 26th morning. The wind goes glassy, with a 3 mph SSW breeze. That’s the cleanest the surface will be, but the swell is still only 1 ft. It’s a session for a longboard or a foamie, just to get wet.
Then we get a couple of days on Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th where the wind turns offshore from the WSW, giving us clean, glassy conditions. The swell is tiny at 0.7 ft to 1.0 ft, but the surface will be smooth. The combined energy is still pitiful (12 to 14).
After that, we slide into more of the same tiny, onshore junk through the end of July and into August 2nd. The swell stays below 2 ft, mostly from the NE, with periods between 7 and 8 seconds. The combined energy maxes out at a weak 38.
Look, this is a beach and jetty setup, and with the swell being this small and weak, and the wind often messy, it’s honestly more of a kiteboarding or foil session than a paddle surf. There’s just no standout day here. The best bet is for the glassy Sunday the 26th morning if you just want to bob around, or the clean offshore days on the 27th and 28th for some micro-sessions. Otherwise, it’s a two-week wait for anything with any real interest.
Rusty.
