The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s call it like it is.
We’ve got a flat spell that’s gonna last. From now, starting Wednesday the 19th, clear through the first week and into Tuesday the 2nd of September, there is just no real surf. The numbers are all tiny. The combined wave energy is stuck in the weak zone—mostly reading (12) to (19) for ages, and only creeping up to the (45) to (58) range at the very end of the month. That’s nothing.
Water temp is a balmy 87°, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year, but that’s not gonna help the waves.
Jupiter Inlet South Jetty is the only break in play. It’s an advanced spot for when it’s working, but with swell heights stuck at 0.6ft to 1ft for the first week, and periods of 4 to 9 seconds, there’s no power. We do get a few glassy mornings – Thursday the 20th and Saturday the 22nd – but it’s flat calm. Some morning winds act like a light offshore, but again, with 0.6ft of swell, it’s just a pond.
Toward the end of the month and into the 1st of September, we see a small pulse: 2ft to 2ft NNE swell with 6-second periods. The energy (45 to 58) is still weak. It’s not enough for a proper paddle. With the winds mostly onshore or cross-onshore that week, it’s gonna be choppy and messy. This setup honestly looks more interesting for a kite than a surfboard.
Even the better period a few days later on the 3rd of September, with that 1ft swell and a 10-second window, is just a tease. The height isn’t there. This is a long, dry stretch. It happens.
Rusty.
