The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break it down in feet and miles per hour.
Honestly, it’s a pretty flat and quiet run for the most part. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing much happening, so don’t get your hopes up too early. The first real chance of anything worth paddling out for doesn’t show up until Friday, September 4th. That’s a solid gap of nearly two weeks with only tiny, weak dribble and poor conditions. So if you’re keen, mark that date.
Let’s talk about the standout. That Friday morning, September 4th, is your best bet. Jupiter Inlet South Jetty will see a small NE swell, around 3ft, with a period of 8 seconds. It’s not a groundswell, just a short-period windswell, so expect a bit of chop on the surface. The wind is SW at 6 mph, a light cross-offshore breeze, which will keep things reasonably clean. The combined energy is moderate at 87. It’s not going to be pumping, but it’s the best we’ve seen in a while. The water temp is around average for this time of year, nothing unusual. Crowds are often around here, so expect company. It’s an advanced spot, so if you’re a beginner, the small size is fine, but the jetty can be tricky.
The next morning, Saturday September 5th, is similar. A bit of NE swell at 3ft, same 8-second period. Wind is NW at 6 mph, another light cross-offshore. Combined energy is 75, moderate. Clean conditions again, but again, nothing special. It’s a repeat of the day before, just slightly less energy. After that, it fades again.
So the takeaway: the first week and a half is a write-off. Tiny waves, poor conditions, onshore winds. The only real window is that Friday and Saturday morning at the start of September. It’s not big, it’s not epic, but if you’re jonesing for a paddle, that’s your window. Keep an eye on the forecasts, things can change.
Rusty.
