The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cooking for Jupiter Inlet South Jetty. It’s a quiet stretch ahead, and we are looking at a long dry spell before anything even starts to whisper.
Right from this Friday the 21st of August through to the end of the month, the jetty is mostly seeing tiny dribbles—just 0.7ft to 1ft of weak, short-period swell. The energy is basically flat, ranging from a meager 7 up to maybe 94 in the combined energy readings. Nothing is breaking with any punch. Winds will flip between glassy calm and cross-onshore, with a few mornings offering a clean surface, but there is simply no height to work with. You’ll be floating around on a lake. The first few days especially, the water won't be doing anything interesting. For context, the water temp is sitting about average for the time of year here.
If you’re watching the jetty, the only real pulse we get falls right at the start of September. On Tuesday the 1st of September morning, we see a slight bump to 3ft from the ESE with a short period of 5 seconds, and the combined energy hits just 54. This is still poor surf. By the 2nd, that’s gone as quickly as it came. The following days slip right back to 0.7ft.
The standout in this whole outlook is the morning of Sunday the 30th of August. We get the most size of the window at 3ft from the ESE, with an energy reading of 67. The wind is light and cross, which won’t ruin the shape, but the period is only 5 seconds—so those waves will be lumpy and weak. If you are an advanced surfer used to this spot, you might scratch out a few grovelly runners. It won't be classic Jupiter inlet by any stretch.
Because the swell is under 5ft for the whole sixteen days, beginners aren’t at any risk of being thumped. But honestly, it’s not worth paddling out for anyone except those with a log and patience.
To be straight with you, this is a blank run. The jetty is fairly consistent, but this forecast is almost entirely "poor surf conditions." That said, it’s a rare stretch, and it tends not to stay this flat for long. Keep an eye on the wind shifts, and we might get something worth jumping for before the end of the second week. For now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
