Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the cards for Itamambuca over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: it's looking pretty quiet. We’ve got a long stretch of small, clean waves, but nothing that really stands out as a classic session. For the first week, especially from the 7th of July through to the 15th, you’re looking at mostly 3ft to 4ft surf. The good news? The wind is often glassy or light offshore, especially in the mornings. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. The swell energy is weak to moderate, and this is a very sheltered river mouth, so it knocks the energy down further. It’s beginner-friendly, consistent enough to bob around, and you’ll likely have company on the better days.
The real highlight, the one that gets my heart rate up, is the 18th of July – Saturday afternoon. We see a jump to 6ft from the ESE, with a period of 12 seconds. That’s a proper little pulse of groundswell, and the energy reading is a big jump. The swell direction is SSE, which isn’t the absolute optimum, but with glassy winds in the morning and a light offshore in the afternoon, it’ll be clean. This is the standout period. The following morning on the 19th is also tidy with 4ft and a calm, glassy surface, but it will likely be smaller. Because this is a river break, that longer period will help shape the waves up nicely. It’s a bit of a marathon wait, but that Saturday arvo window is the one to circle on the calendar.
If you’re more of a kite surfer, that brief bump of 7ft on the 13th of July afternoon, even if it's a short period and crumbly for a paddle board, will be fun for a tow.
So, bottom line: a lot of small, clean days for beginners, and one solid Saturday afternoon (18th July) that looks like the pick of the bunch for everyone. Forecasts can change, but this is a decent run. We’ve had quieter spells.
