Table - best surf conditions forecast for Inner Kom over the next 16 days.

Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what’s cooking for Inner-Kom over the next couple of weeks.

Straight up, it’s not an easy run for the first week or so. We’ve got a lot of lumpy, windy days where the ocean’s just not cooperating. The swell is there, but it’s messy and mostly blown out, so you’re gonna be fighting the elements more than riding waves.

Starting on Wednesday the 8th, we have some chest-high 8ft swell from the SW with a long 13-second period, but the wind is a problem. The morning is glassy, but by the afternoon it's howling cross-off at 19 mph, making things tricky. Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are the same story: solid, powerful SW groundswell up to 10ft (energy readings in the thousands – this is serious water moving), but the SE wind is pumping at 22 mph. It’s offshore and clean on Friday, but that’s a *strong* offshore breeze, which means it’s going to be a battle to get out, especially with that power. This is advanced-only territory; if it’s not your game, give it a miss.

By Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th, the swell backs off a bit to 5ft – 6ft, and we finally get some lighter, clean offshore winds. The wave energy drops to a more manageable 625-1026 (moderate), so it becomes a much nicer, paddle-friendly setup. Still, the scores aren't screaming “go now,” but it’s the best we've seen in a while. Monday the 13th drops off further into small 4ft waves with poor conditions.

After that, there’s a real dry spell with tiny, ordinary surf through to Wednesday the 15th. You might get the odd knee-high wave, but it’s not worth wetting a wetsuit for.

But hold on, because the back end of the forecast is where it gets interesting. On the 16th of July, the swell cranks back up to 13ft with a 14-second period from the SW, and though the wind is cross-off, the wave energy hits a massive 7040. That’s a lot of power. This is for experienced surfers only – 13ft surf is no joke.

Then, the real standout window appears on Sunday the 19th of July. The forecast points to an excellent day. We're looking at a 6ft to 7ft SSW groundswell with a super long 16-17 second period. The wind is forecast to be glassy, which means absolute perfection. The water will be clean as a whistle. The combined wave energy is a healthy 2637-2759 (strong). This is the best day of the whole 16-day run. Expect some seriously good waves at this reef-and-point setup, but be warned, that long-period swell will want to barrel on the steeper sections. It’s a Sunday, too, and this spot can draw a crowd, so get there early. This one is for experienced surfers.

Beyond that, the 22nd of July looks like it could be another big day with 15ft waves and energy over 10,000, but that is a long way off and the wind looks onshore, so we’ll keep an eye on it.

As for the water temp, at Inner-Kom it’s sitting about average for this time of year, nothing to write home about.

So to wrap it up: the first week is a write-off for most of us unless you're a paddle-in hero. The best bet, and the clear winner, is Sunday the 19th of July – glassy, solid, long-period, groundswell. That's your day. Mark it.

Rusty.
