The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Inner Kom, a reef and point setup that’s a solid beginner-friendly spot, but it’s got some grunt in it this period.

The water temp is sitting right around average for this time of year, so nothing wild there—just your usual summer suit or springy depending on how you run.

We’ve got a real mixed bag coming our way. The first week starts with a bang, but it’s not for the faint of heart. Thursday the 20th morning kicks off with a solid 12 ft SW groundswell, a 13-second period, and the combined energy is pumping hard at 3903. That’s some serious water moving. The wind is light cross-off, so the face will be clean, but this is strictly for experienced surfers only—it’s a proper beast. That afternoon it drops to 10 ft and the energy eases to 2536, but it’s still a handful.

Friday the 21st morning is your first real standout. We’ve got offshore wind, 15 mph from the SE, grooming a 6 ft SW swell with an 11-second period. The energy is at 1377, which is still a solid moderate push. The wind is offshore and clean, so the waves will have that classic, lined-up look. This is a sweet window for anyone who knows what they’re doing. The afternoon drops off a bit.

Saturday and Sunday the 22nd and 23rd are a bit of a mixed ride. Saturday is cross-on and choppy, but Sunday morning the 23rd is a beauty—clear skies, light cross-off breeze, and a 8 ft WSW swell with a 13-second period, energy at 1850. That’s excellent for experienced surfers again, and the wind is light, so it’ll be glassy and clean.

Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th see the swell back off a bit, but Tuesday morning is worth a mention: 8 ft SW groundswell, 14-second period, and offshore wind at 18 mph. That’s a long-period groundswell, so it’ll have some real punch and shape, especially at a reef. The energy is high at 2233. The wind is fresh offshore, so it’ll be a clean, powerful session for the crew who can handle it.

Then we hit a bit of a lull from Wednesday the 26th through to Friday the 28th, where the swell drops and the wind turns a bit messy. Not much to write home about.

But hold on—Sunday the 30th morning is a real gem. Glassy conditions, zero wind, and a 5 ft SW swell with a 12-second period. The energy is moderate at 701, but the wind is dead calm, so it’s going to be perfectly smooth. This is a fantastic window for all levels, especially if you want a clean, fun session.

Now, the real standout for the whole outlook is Monday the 31st of August. We’ve got a massive 13 ft WSW swell, 13-second period, and the combined energy is a staggering 5131. That is a very strong, powerful swell. The wind is light cross-shore, so it won’t be blown out, but this is a beast for experts only. The afternoon is similar at 12 ft with 4483 energy. This is a serious, heavy swell event.

After that, the first few days of September turn ugly—strong cross-onshore winds and lumpy, messy conditions. The swell drops off and the quality goes to zero. By Thursday the 3rd, it’s a bit better but still not great.

Bottom line: The best windows are Friday 21st morning, Sunday 23rd morning, Tuesday 25th morning, and the absolute standout is Sunday 30th morning for glassy, clean fun, and Monday 31st August for the big, powerful, expert-only swell. Get on it while it’s good.

Rusty.
