The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s coming up for Boneyards.

We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag early on, looking a bit average with some messy conditions. But if you’ve got the patience, there’s a couple of windows that are going to be absolute magic, especially for the crew who know what they’re doing.

Thursday morning (16th July) kicks things off with an 8ft SW swell, but it’s coming in with a cross-on wind and a marginal feel. The wave energy is strong at 2494, but the quality isn’t there yet. Thursday afternoon is much the same story.

Friday morning (17th July) is a real turning point. The swell drops to 6ft out of the SW, but the wind goes dead flat – glassy. This is a proper window for a session. The energy is moderate at 835, but the conditions are the star here. That glassy surface will make the reef look like a mirror. The afternoon stays clean with a light WSW breeze.

Saturday (18th July) is a write-off. The wind swings hard onshore, making things choppy and poor. Give it a miss.

Sunday morning (19th July) is back on the good list. Clean 6ft SW swell with glassy conditions, and the energy is a solid 1010. It’s called “excellent for experienced surfers,” so if you’ve got the skills, get out there. The afternoon cleans up with a light cross-off breeze.

Monday (20th July) starts offshore but the wind gets ugly in the afternoon, and conditions are poor.

Tuesday (21st July) through Thursday (23rd July) is a full-on stormy period. Huge 13ft swells, but the wind is howling onshore, making it a total mess. This is kite-surfing territory, not paddle surfing. Don’t bother.

Friday (24th July) sees the sea state settle down a bit. A 6ft to 7ft WSW swell with clean cross-off winds. It’s a bit marginal, but definitely rideable.

Saturday (25th July) is a big one coming back. A massive 13ft SW groundswell (period 14s) is on the cards. The morning is offshore, but the energy is huge at 5891. By the afternoon, the wind goes light cross-shore. This is a big, powerful swell, so only for the experienced crew. The score is high for this one.

Sunday (26th July) is the standout. A 10ft WSW groundswell with a very long 15-second period, and clean cross-off winds. The energy is 4372. This is a proper groundswell – it’s going to have real power and shape, but it’s going to be a bit straight at the beach, so the reef at Boneyards will be the ticket. This is a special session for the experts.

Monday (27th July) and Tuesday (28th July) stay solid with 8ft SW swell and clean conditions, gradually dropping off.

Wednesday (29th July) gets messy again with a 30 km/h cross-on wind, despite a very long 20-second period. That’s a lot of energy but with terrible wind.

And here’s the big one. Thursday (30th July) is a firecracker. A 16ft SW groundswell, period 14 seconds, with light offshore winds. The energy is 9634. This is exceptional, expert-only surf. The morning is glassy offshore, and the afternoon is clean. This is the best of the whole run.

Friday (31st July) carries on the goodness with an 18ft SSW swell and even more energy (10678), staying clean. Another huge day for the brave.

So, the best windows? Sunday morning (19th July) for a clean, fun session, and Sunday (26th July) for the first big groundswell of the run. But the absolute standout is Thursday (30th July) through to Friday (31st July) – those are the days the big-wave chargers have been waiting for.

Stay safe out there.

Rusty.
