Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking straight at the next sixteen days for Boneyards. It’s a reef setup, and it’s inconsistent, so when it turns on, you gotta be ready. The water here is running a bit colder than normal for this time of year, sitting around 58°.
Right now, the start of the period is a write-off. We’ve got poor conditions through to Sunday the 6th of July. The winds are cross-onshore, the surf is lumpy and choppy – just not worth paddling out. You’ll want to sit this one out.
Then things flip completely. Monday the 7th of July morning looks like the real standout. We’ve got a clean 8ft swell from the WSW, light offshore winds from the ESE, and combined swell energy is solid at 1568 (moderate energy). That’s solid groundswell from the west-southwest for experienced surfers. The winds stay light and offshore through Tuesday and Wednesday, with the swell hanging in the 7ft to 8ft range and a period of 12 to 13 seconds – proper groundswell. Wednesday the 9th of July morning is the pick of the bunch: 8ft from the SW with that same light offshore wind and clean conditions. The combined energy jumps to 3272 (strong energy), and the score reflects it. Best of the whole run right there.
Thursday the 10th of July through Saturday the 12th of July keeps the clean conditions going with moderate offshore winds, 6ft to 7ft SW groundswell, and combined energy staying in the strong range. You’ll want to be out there early. Saturday the 12th of July afternoon turns glassy with a 5ft SSW swell – not the biggest, but silky smooth.
Things go a bit messy again after that, with cross-onshore winds and lumpy surf from Sunday the 13th of July onward. There’s a big pump of 12ft SW swell on Wednesday the 16th of July, but it’s blown out. Don’t bother.
However, keep an eye on the very end. Thursday the 17th of July morning and afternoon look glassy with a 10ft SW swell and 14-second period. The energy is massive at 4798 (very strong wave energy). This is for experts only – that’s a lot of water moving. Then Saturday the 19th of July tops it off with a glassy 6ft WSW swell and clean conditions.
Bottom line: the first real swell hits Monday the 7th of July. The best run of quality is Wednesday the 9th of July morning. The big glassy swells at the end are promising but further out.
Stay sharp.
Rusty.
