Alright, this is Rusty.
Alright, listen up. The next couple of weeks are a mixed bag. We've got some serious size coming through, but you're going to have to work for it with the winds. The overall pattern is a slow build into some big, powerful swell, but the windows of clean conditions are tight.
Let's start with what's on offer now. Through Monday the 6th and into Tuesday the 7th, Boneyards is seeing a solid 6ft to 8ft of W to SW groundswell. The energy is already ramping up (1322) but it's a bit of a tease. The wind is light, coming from the NW and WNW, but that puts it onshore or cross-onshore, so the surf will be a bit lumpy, not that clean Boneyards perfection we dream about. It's marginal, but if you're desperate, there are waves.
Now, things get interesting from Wednesday the 8th through to the weekend. The swell pushes into the 8ft to 10ft range, with a solid SW direction and a long period of 13-14 seconds. That's proper groundswell. The energy numbers are getting up there (2751) telling you there is a lot of power in the water. The problem is the wind. We have strong SE winds; they are cross-offshore, which cleans the face up, but it's a fresh breeze (18-22 mph). It will be clean, but make no mistake, it will be a battle to get out and a chore to hold your position. This is expert-only territory with that size and wind. By Friday the 10th, the wind swings straight offshore from the SE, still strong, but the waves will be clean and rippable for the brave. Standout moment? Maybe, but only for the very experienced.
After that, the swell drops fast. By Sunday the 12th of July, we are down to a tiny 3ft to 4ft. The wind goes light and variable, turning clean. It’s small, but for a longboard or a funboard, it’s the most user-friendly session of the whole week. The water temp is sitting at 60°, which is pretty much bang on normal for the time of year, so grab a decent 4/3.
Then we hit a serious dead zone. From Monday the 13th right through to Friday the 17th of July, there is basically nothing. The numbers are pitiful. You are looking at a full week of tiny, wind-affected slop. The period on the 15th hits 16 seconds, but with only 2ft of swell, it’s just a long-period wash. Don't bother.
Just when you think it's over, we get a late pulse. The weekend of the 19th and into Monday the 20th looks promising. The swell jumps back up, hitting 12ft from the SSW on the 19th. That is a massive, powerful groundswell (energy at 5515). The wind is cross-offshore again, with a moderate to fresh breeze. It’s big and will be looking for a bank, but Boneyards can handle it. The real highlight, the one true standout in this whole forecast, is Tuesday the 21st of July. We are looking at a 12ft SW groundswell with a very long 15-second period. The energy is incredible at 5936. The wind is forecast to be gentle offshore from the SE. This is the one. That combination of size, direction, period, and light offshore wind is a recipe for an absolutely pumping session. It will be big, hollow, and powerful. For experts only, but it will be an all-timer. Just know the crowd will be on it, as the "sometimes" crowd factor will turn to "everyone and their dog" on a day like that.
Rusty out.
