The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming our way over the next sixteen days.
We’re starting off slow. The first couple of days, Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th, are pretty much a washout. Tuesday morning has a weak 3ft W swell with a cross-onshore breeze. The combined energy is a measly 321 (weak), and the report says it all – "poor surf conditions." Wednesday morning picks up a little more size at 5ft from the SW, but the wind is still cross-on, and the energy jumps to 1772 (moderate), but the surf is still marginal. Wednesday afternoon sees a jump to 10ft SW, but the period is a very long 17 seconds and the wind is cross. That long period means cleaner, more powerful lines, but at a beach break it might lurch a bit. Still, it’s a big swell with strong energy (4804).
Now, Thursday the 16th is where it starts to get interesting. Thursday morning at Boneyards you’ve got an 8ft SW swell, with a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is strong at 2494, and the report calls it "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers." That’s a solid, clean morning. The swell direction is SW, and the guidance says the optimum is from the W, but it’s close enough that the reefs will be working. Thursday afternoon drops a bit in size and the wind goes cross, which is a bit less ideal.
Friday the 17th is a standout. Friday morning, the swell is 7ft from SW, the wind is cross-off, and the combined energy is a solid 1048. The report says "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers." That’s a clean, fun morning. Friday afternoon gets even better with the wind swinging offshore at 20 km/h, the swell is 6ft from SW, and the energy is 748. That’s your best window for the first week: clean, offshore wind, and a solid groundswell.
The weekend (Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th) is a mixed bag. Saturday morning is a 5ft S swell with onshore wind and marginal conditions. Saturday afternoon drops to 3ft and is poor. Sunday morning brings an 8ft WSW swell with cross winds and a bit of chop, so it’s marginal. Sunday afternoon cleans up with a cross-off breeze and 8ft SW swell, but it’s still only marginal.
Monday the 20th is back on. Monday morning has a 8ft SSW swell with a gentle offshore breeze. The energy is 1391, and the report says "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers." That’s another clean, offshore morning.
Tuesday the 21st is the absolute highlight of the entire forecast. Tuesday morning, the swell is a solid 10ft from SSW, with a long 15-second period, and the wind is offshore. The combined energy is a massive 4153 (very strong). The report calls it "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers." This is a big, powerful, and clean swell. The direction is SSW, which is a bit south of the optimum W, but with that period and wind, the points and reefs at Boneyards will be absolutely pumping. This is a serious session for the experienced crew.
After that, things get messy. Wednesday the 22nd is a write-off with strong cross-onshore winds and blown-out 10ft surf. Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th are also poor with onshore winds and messy conditions. Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th are a mixed bag. Sunday the 26th looks promising again with a 10ft WSW swell, 16-second period, a cross-off wind, and very strong energy (4899). The report says it’s "marginal," but the conditions are clean. That’s a long-range call, so it’s less certain.
Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th are a step down in size but still have some decent windows. Monday afternoon has a 8ft WSW swell with a cross-off breeze and clean conditions. Tuesday morning has a 6ft SW swell with a light cross wind.
So, the two true standouts are Friday the 17th morning, and Tuesday the 21st morning. The 21st is the big one – a big, clean, powerful groundswell. If you’re an experienced surfer, that’s your day. The 17th is the safer, more reliable bet for the first week.
No water temperature data is provided, so I can’t comment on that.
Rusty out.
