Table - best surf conditions forecast for Boneyards over the next 16 days.
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ over the next couple of weeks. We’ve only got one spot on the radar to talk about here, so all focus goes on Boneyards. It’s a reef break that’s inconsistent, so when it lights up, you gotta be ready. The water temp’s sittin’ at 61°, which is pretty much spot on average for this time of year, so no shock to the system when you get in.
We kick things off on Thursday the 9th of July. There’s swell around 8 ft from the SW but the wind’s a fresh cross-off from the SE at 19 mph. It’s clean enough, but the whole setup’s a bit marginal with the tide and the combined wave energy’s sitting moderate at 2422. Not the best, not the worst, but you’d be picky.
Friday the 10th looks a tad better. Morning has clean 8 ft SSW swell with a fresh offshore wind, energy at 2350 – right in that moderate range. The afternoon drops a notch to 8 ft but still holding clean. Saturday the 11th keeps things rolling with 7 ft off SSW, offshore winds, and energy easing into the moderate range at 1399. Sunday the 12th is smaller, 4 ft, but the wind stays offshore and the conditions are described as very good. Clean lines likely.
We hit a flat spell from Monday the 13th through Tuesday the 14th. Swell drops under 3 ft, winds swing onshore or cross-on, and it’s pretty ordinary. Not worth paddling out for.
Now, Wednesday the 15th of July is where it gets interesting. Morning goes glassy, dead calm wind, and a 4 ft SW swell with a long 16-second period. That’s proper groundswell, lots of energy in the water (819). It’s clean as a whistle. Then Wednesday afternoon the swell jumps to 8 ft from the SW with a 14-second period, light cross-off wind, and the energy rockets up to 2455 – this is the standout session for the first week. Best on offer by a long shot.
Thursday the 16th still has size, 8 ft SW, but the wind turns onshore, making it messy. Friday the 17th gets blown out with strong cross-on winds at 25 mph. Saturday the 18th is cleaner but the swell at 12 ft is getting big – that’s expert territory now.
Here’s the real headline, though: Sunday the 19th of July. Morning brings a 15 ft SW swell, glassy conditions, and the energy is a massive 6594 – strong to very strong. That’s exceptional for experts, but keep in mind this reef is inconsistent and that size will be straight-up heavy. Afternoon drops to 13 ft but still solid.
After that, the last week gets messy. Monday the 20th has onshore winds and lumpy conditions. Tuesday the 21st cleans up a bit with cross-off wind and 8 ft SSW swell, but it’s only marginal. Wednesday the 22nd through to Friday the 24th gets blown out with strong cross-on winds and swell up to 16 ft – way too big for most and just a washing machine out there.
Overall, if you’re keen, lock in Wednesday the 15th afternoon for the best combo of clean conditions and good-size, long-period swell. For the big-dog session, Sunday the 19th morning is the standout, but that one’s for experts only.
Rusty.
