The Lowdown

Alright, this is Rusty. Let's talk about what's coming up at Boneyards.

Alright, the first real chance to get wet is Wednesday morning, July 15th, but to be honest, it's a bit of a write-off. The wind is howling from the NNW at 12 mph, making it a choppy cross-on mess on a 5ft SW swell. The water temp is sitting at 59°, which is pretty much average for the time of year, so nothing weird there. The vibe is marginal at best.

You want to wait for Wednesday afternoon. The wind swings around to a light SSE breeze at 6 mph, going cross-off, and the swell jumps right up to 10ft from the SW with a very long period of 17 seconds. That's a lot of energy (4278) and it's going to be clean. This is big, powerful groundswell, so this is strictly for experienced surfers only. The long period could also make it a bit tricky at a beach break, but a reef like Boneyards can handle it.

Thursday morning, July 16th, is an absolute gem. Glassy conditions with an 8ft SW swell at 13 seconds. The energy is strong (2494) and the wind is a flat calm. This is as good as it gets. The swell is still a bit big for beginners, but for the rest of us, it's prime time. The wind stays clean for the afternoon, but the swell drops a touch.

Friday morning, July 17th, is going to be tidy. Offshore wind from the ESE at 6 mph, with a 6ft SW swell. A bit smaller, but still solid. The swell period is a little shorter at 11 seconds, so the sets will be more frequent. By Friday afternoon, the size drops to 5ft, and the wind goes light, so it's still a good session.

Saturday, July 18th, is a write-off. Strong NNW winds are going to chop things up. The swell is there, but the wind is a mess. Save your energy.

Sunday, July 19th, cleans right up. A light cross-off from the S, with a clean 4ft to 4ft SW swell. The energy is moderate (927) but it'll be clean and fun. A good day for a longboard or a fish.

Then we hit a dead zone. Monday, July 20th, through to Wednesday, July 22nd, is a total loss. Strong onshore winds, massive swell, and rain. This is kite-surfing territory, not paddle surfing. Don't bother.

Thursday, July 23rd, is a wild card. The swell is huge—16ft on the morning with energy at 10062, and 11ft in the afternoon. The wind is still cross-on, so it's going to be a beast. Only the brave and the experienced should even look at it. Late in the window, on Tuesday, July 28th, there's a promising run. Clean offshore wind from the SE at 15-16 mph, with a 6ft to 7ft WSW swell. The energy is solid (1899) and the offshore wind will make for some classic, clean lines. That's a standout for the second week.

And on Wednesday, July 29th, glassy conditions return in the afternoon with a 6ft WSW swell. The energy is there (1335), and with no wind, it'll be a great session for those who can handle the cleanup sets.

So, the standout is Thursday morning, July 16th, for the glassy conditions and solid groundswell. The other standout is Tuesday, July 28th, for the offshore winds and clean swell, but that's a long way out, so don't book the flight yet.

Rusty, signing off.
