Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fish Hoek over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the table for Fish Hoek for the next couple of weeks.
The window opens up right away with some good energy on the way. We've got a solid run of swell that starts on Thursday, July 16, and it's looking pretty consistent through the first week. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so don't expect any surprises when you jump in.
Thursday, July 16 kicks things off nicely. The early morning session is the standout of the first few days. You've got a clean 6ft SW swell (1155 combined energy) with glassy conditions from a light SW wind. That's a solid combo – the swell's got good shape and the surface is smooth as. The afternoon drops off a bit with a cross-shore wind that'll mess with the lines.
Friday, July 17 is a sleeper hit. Morning glass-off with zero wind and a 4ft SW swell (417 combined energy) – think long, clean waves with that 11-second period. Paddling out will be easy, and the conditions are about as good as it gets. Very light crowds help too.
Saturday, July 18 holds up with clean, offshore-ish winds all day. Swell drops to around 4-4ft but the 10-second period keeps things fun. Not a standout, but a solid weekend option.
Sunday, July 19 morning might be your best bet early in the week – glassy conditions again and a 4ft SW swell with a longer 12-second period (504 combined energy). The swell direction (SW) matches up nicely with what this spot likes (SE optimum), so expect some nice lined-up waves.
Monday, July 20 is a bit smaller but the afternoon brings a nice offshore wind from the WNW at 12 mph. The 3ft SSW swell is weak but clean, so if you've got a longboard, that's your window.
Okay, now for a big caveat. Tuesday, July 21 rolls in with a massive 8-8ft SW swell (2496 combined energy) and a very long 15-second period. That's serious groundswell. The winds are cross-off and fresh, so it'll be clean, but this size with that period at a beach break like Fish Hoek? It's going to be too big for beginners and might break a bit straight – better suited for experienced surfers who know the bank. Kite surfers might find this more interesting than paddle surfers.
Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 keep the energy high (1353 and 1095 combined energy) with clean 7ft SW swell, but the winds are cross-off and moderate. Solid, but not the peak.
After that, we hit a lull. Friday, July 24 into the weekend the winds turn cross-onshore and the quality drops off badly. It gets choppy and messy.
But hold onto your board. Saturday, July 25 morning is the real standout of this whole outlook. The swell jumps back to 8ft from the SW (2426 combined energy) with a 14-second period and a light offshore WNW wind at 3 mph. That's glassy, powerful, and clean. The file calls it excellent conditions for experienced surfers – and I agree. This is your day if you've got the skills.
Sunday, July 26 stays big (7-7ft, 2010 combined energy) but the wind turns cross-onshore, making it a bit lumpy. Still surfable for the crew who don't mind some chop.
And then, way out there at the end of the window, look at Thursday, July 30. The afternoon session shows an 12ft SW swell (5023 combined energy) with glassy conditions. That's very strong wave energy. At 12ft this is expert territory only – beginners stay well clear. The direction matches the optimum and it's glassy. If this holds, it could be one of the best days of the month.
Friday, July 31 morning keeps the swell at a massive 13ft (6035 combined energy) but with a light cross-onshore wind, so it'll be a bit bumpy for that size.
So to sum it up: grab Friday July 17 morning for a fun, clean session, and mark your calendar for Saturday July 25 morning – that's the pick of the bunch for experienced surfers. The big swells late in the second week (July 30-31) look promising but are a long way off, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
