Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fish Hoek over the next 16 days.
Right, let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Fish Hoek over the next couple of weeks.
It’s a bit of a slow start, to be honest. We’ve got small, messy swell and onshore winds locking things up for the first few days. Nothing worth getting wet for until we hit Monday the 13th, when a tiny 3ft south swell slides in with glassy conditions in the morning – that’s about the best of a pretty flat spell. Things stay small and ordinary through Tuesday.
We get a bit of a pulse mid-week, but it’s not clean. Wednesday the 15th brings a 5ft SW swell but it’s cross-onshore and choppy, and by the afternoon it jumps to 7ft with a 15-second period but it’s still cross-onshore and pretty rough (combined wave energy 2040). Thursday’s similar, just messy.
Now, the one that’s got me talking is Saturday the 18th. Come afternoon, the wind drops to glassy, the swell sits at a clean 5ft from the SSE with a 12-second period, and the energy reading is solid at 1092. That’s going to be clean, lined-up waves with good shape. It’s not huge, but it’s the best conditions of the whole run so far. Crowds are often a thing here, so expect company.
Sunday the 19th afternoon also looks tidy – 3ft SSE, 11-second period, with a gentle offshore wind. Clean and fun.
Then we go flat again for a few days until Tuesday the 21st morning, where a 3ft SSW groundswell with a 17-second period rolls in under glassy conditions. That’s a very long-period swell, so expect long waits between sets but clean, glassy lines. Energy is low at 448, so more of a longboard or fun-grinder session.
Hold onto your board for Friday the 24th. Morning shows a solid 10ft SW swell, 19-second period, with glassy offshore winds. That’s proper groundswell, powerful, with combined energy of 6200. This is going to be big and clean, but it’s only for experienced surfers – way too much for beginners. The afternoon drops to 8ft but picks up a light cross-on breeze. Still solid.
Saturday the 25th afternoon is another standout: 8ft SW, 15-second period, glassy conditions, and 3226 energy. Again, expert-level stuff, but absolutely firing if you’ve got the skills.
Sunday the 26th morning holds 8ft SW, 15-second period, clean with a light cross-off breeze. Another good one for the crew who know what they’re doing.
Water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual there.
Overall, the best of the bunch is Saturday the 18th afternoon for a clean, fun session that suits a broader range, and then Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th for the big-wave crew. The long-range stuff looks promising but we’ll keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
