The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.

Looks like we’ve got a bit of a slow start, but there’s a real gem hiding in the middle of this outlook. The first few days are small and clean, but the magic really kicks off around Tuesday the 21st.

Monday 20 July is a mellow start. Fish Hoek is seeing a clean little 4 ft SW swell, but it’s a bit weak with only 313 combined energy. The NNW cross-offshore breeze makes it tidy. It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about.

Tuesday 21 July is where it starts to get interesting. The morning is the standout of the early week. The swell jumps to 6 ft from the SW, with a very long 14-second period. That’s real groundswell energy, and the combined energy is a solid 1268. But the real kicker – the wind is glassy, dead calm from the SE. That’s a treat. The waves will be clean, lined up, and with that long period, it’ll be a proper session. The 6 ft height is still manageable for most, but the power is real. The afternoon stays clean but the wind goes cross-on, so get it early.

Wednesday 22 July keeps the momentum. The morning is clean with a 5 ft SW swell and a light offshore NW breeze. The swell period drops to 12 seconds, still good, and the energy is moderate at 639. It’s a solid, fun day.

Thursday 23 July is a bit hit and miss. The morning has a 5 ft SW swell, but the wind is a moderate N breeze, cross-off. It’s not terrible, but it’s not glassy. The energy is a bit better in the afternoon hitting 648, but the vibe is just average.

Friday 24 July morning is a big one. A 8 ft SW swell with a 14-second period and a massive 2278 combined energy. That’s a powerful, hefty swell. For experienced surfers, this could be a proper session. The wind is onshore from the SE though, so it’s going to be a battle. The afternoon gets choppy with a strong SSE wind. This one is for the experts only in the morning, and it’s a mission.

Saturday 25 July is a write-off. The swell is still up, but the wind is onshore and cross-on, making a mess. The energy is there (1528 on the morning), but it’s not worth paddling out for.

Sunday 26 July brings a nice reset. The morning is a glassy 4 ft SW swell with a clean 11-second period. The wind is completely calm from the ENE. This is a beautiful, clean session. The afternoon stays clean with a light offshore wind. Perfect for a longboard or a fun mid-length.

Monday 27 July morning is another glassy gem. The swell is 5 ft from the SW, 12-second period, and dead calm. The energy is moderate at 640. It’s clean, it’s quiet. The afternoon turns nasty with a fresh SSE wind, so get it while it’s good.

Tuesday 28 July through Thursday 30 July is a mixed bag of onshore winds and poor conditions. The swell is still there, but it’s messy. A couple of clean windows appear on Thursday 30 July with a light offshore wind and a 5 ft SSW swell, but it’s not the highlight of the period.

Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August are a complete washout. Strong winds, dropping swell, and poor energy. The surf is gone.

Sunday 2 August is a clean, fresh offshore day, but the swell is tiny (2 ft). Not worth the wetsuit.

Monday 3 August is the real standout of the entire outlook. This is the one to circle. The morning delivers a massive 8 ft WSW swell, with a very long 15-second period, and the combined energy is a massive 3078. The wind is glassy, dead calm. This is a powerful, clean, heavy groundswell. For experienced surfers, this is a dream session. The afternoon gets a bit cross-on, so the morning is the window. This is the best of the lot.

Tuesday 4 August is a drop off to nothing.

The real highlight is Monday 3 August morning. That 8 ft WSW swell with glassy conditions is the best on offer. The Tuesday 21 July morning is also a strong contender for a clean, powerful session.

Rusty.
