Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fish Hoek over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at the next 16 days for our local stretch. It’s a bit of a mixed bag to start, but there’s some serious firepower coming in the second week. The water is sitting at 60°, which is basically bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
We’re looking at a quiet few days to kick things off. Sunday the 12th is a write-off – a bit of a southerly wind and the swell is messy. You’ll be better off waiting. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are flat and gutless, so don’t even bother. There’s a solid gap of no good surf here until we get a flicker of life on Wednesday morning the 15th.
Now, Wednesday the 15th is where it starts to get interesting. A clean 3ft swell from the SW with a very long period of 16 seconds rolls in. The combined energy is moderate (611). That long period, though, can make the waves a bit too straight at a beach break, so keep that in mind. The wind is light and offshore in the morning, so it’ll be clean. It’s a decent option, but not the standout.
The real fun kicks off on Thursday the 16th. We’ve got a solid 5ft to 6ft SW swell with a 13-second period, and the wind is offshore all day. The energy is strong (999). This is going to be a solid, clean day with proper waves. This is a good one for the experienced crew.
Friday the 17th is a right-off again. Strong onshore winds from the SE at 19 mph, blowing the whole thing out. Lumpy and horrible. Saturday the 18th is a bit better as the wind drops, with a 5ft SW swell and glassy conditions in the afternoon, but it’s not the best.
The next big highlight is a long way out, so keep it on your radar. Wednesday the 24th of July is looking like a potential classic. A 8ft SW swell (17-second period) with a gentle offshore wind in the afternoon. The combined energy is very strong (3010). This is a big, powerful swell, and it’s only for experts. The waves will be pumping and clean, but it’s a long-range call, so don’t book the time off just yet.
Then, the absolute standout of the whole period is Sunday the 26th of July. We’re looking at a 10ft SW swell with a 15-second period, and the wind is offshore in the afternoon. The energy is monstrous (3681). This is a solid, expert-only day. The sets will be big, powerful, and clean. This is the one you want to be watching for, but again, it’s a long way off, so keep your fingers crossed.
Monday the 27th of July is also looking excellent to wrap things up, with a 8ft swell and glassy conditions in the morning. The energy is still very strong (2188). This is a big, clean morning for the experienced crew.
So, to wrap it up: the first few days are a write-off. The best bet on the near horizon is Thursday the 16th. The real, long-range standout is Sunday the 26th, with Monday the 27th also being a cracker. Keep an eye on the forecasts, and I’ll be back.
Rusty.
