Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fish Hoek over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming down the pipe for Fish Hoek.
We're starting off with a bit of a flat spell. The first few days are pretty grim. There's a little bit of swell around 4ft on Saturday the 11th, but it's onshore, messy, and the wave energy is weak (640). Not worth paddling out. Sunday the 12th is similar with some short-period, onshore junk. We're looking at a gap of a few days with nothing really rideable.
The first real window that gets my heart rate up is Wednesday morning, July 15th. Now, the swell is small, only about 2ft, but it's a long-period groundswell from the SW (16 seconds). The wind is completely glassy, dead calm (0 km/h), and the water temp is sitting at 60°F, which is pretty average for this time of year. Energy is low (313), but with that period and those conditions, it could be a fun little glassy session on a longboard.
Now, hold onto your board, because the real standout is a few days out. Thursday morning, July 16th is looking mint. We've got a solid 7ft SSW groundswell with a 14-second period. The wind is light offshore from the West at 5 km/h, which will groom the waves beautifully. The combined energy is a strong 1422, and the forecast is calling it excellent for experienced surfers. This is the pick of the first week. The afternoon on the 16th will still be good too, with clean 6ft surf.
We get a bumpy, onshore day on the 17th, so give that a miss.
Looking further ahead, there are some big promises for the second week. The wave energy numbers get huge. Wednesday morning, July 22nd brings a solid 10ft WSW swell, but the real gold is that Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd. Offshore wind from the NW at 15 km/h, clean conditions, and an 8ft swell. It's going to be big and powerful, only for the experienced crew. The energy reading is a massive 2162.
Then it gets even bigger. Thursday the 23rd is an all-day standout with 8ft to 8ft WSW swell and glassy offshores (0-5 km/h). Combined energy hits up to 2346. This is expert territory, but for those who can handle it, it's going to be epic. After that, the swell holds in the 10ft range on Friday the 24th, but the wind swings onshore, chopping it up, so the magic is lost.
A word on the longer period swells we see here, like the 16-second stuff on the 15th and 24th. Those long-period groundswells can get a bit straight and dumpy at a beach setup, so they might be better for the reefs and points, but grab a board and go see.
Overall, this isn't a constant run, but we've got some truly excellent, clean, powerful swells lined up, especially around the 16th and that big window on the 22nd and 23rd. The waits will be worth it.
Rusty.
