The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s happening for the next couple of weeks.
Right now, and for the next ten days, the surf is flat. I mean, flat. We’re looking at tiny, underpowered swell that’s barely registering, with a combined wave energy that’s weak (under 100). The best you’ll get is a wave of 2ft, but it’s mostly coming from the wrong angles and the wind is just all over the place. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing weird there.
The first real glimmer of hope isn’t until Saturday the 1st of August. We finally see a pulse of S swell pushing the height to 3ft with a period of 5 seconds. The combined energy climbs to 52 (moderate wave energy). It’s a small wave, but the wind that morning is blowing offshore out of the NW with a light breeze. That’ll clean up the lines at Galveston 61st Street Pier. It’s only a 1 out of 10 on the call, but it’s the best we’ve seen in a long stretch. The break is fairly consistent, but crowds are possible here, so don’t expect it to be empty.
Then Sunday the 2nd of August, the morning is looking even cleaner. That S swell is still 3ft, but the wind is glassy, from the NW at 3 mph. That’s a rare treat for this spot. The water will be glassy, the waves will be small but clean. The combined energy is still moderate (36), but it’s a proper small wave session.
The standout is the Monday morning, August 3rd. That same 3ft S swell is still running, and once again, the wind is glassy, this time from the SE at 3 mph. The energy is up to 47 and the conditions are clean. It’s the best of the whole run. If you’ve got a log, you’ll be smiling.
There’s a big gap from now until the 29th of July where the surf is basically flat and junk. Then the 30th and 31st are small with clean-ish morning windows, but nothing special. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of August are where it’s at.
The swell is small, but the wind is right. Get on it.
Rusty.
