Table - best surf conditions forecast for Freshwater east over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down the surf for Freshwater East.
Honestly, the first week and a half is pretty flat. The water is sitting at 64°, which is a good 4.3° warmer than usual for this time of year – that's a real warm spell, almost tropical.
The first hint of something happening isn't until Tuesday, July 21st. That morning we get a 4.6ft swell from the west, with a 7-second period, and clean offshore winds from the northwest. The energy is moderate (173). By the afternoon, it bumps up to 4.9ft from the west (217), wind still offshore. It's rideable, but the period is short, so the waves will be a bit crumbly.
The one to really wait for is Wednesday, July 22nd. The morning brings a 7.9ft west swell, 8-second period, with light offshore wind from the west-northwest. The energy is pumping at 698. Then the afternoon is the big one: a solid 8.2ft from the west, still 8 seconds, with a moderate offshore breeze from the west. The energy hits 912. That's a serious swell. That size is for the experts only – it's going to be too big for beginners. The break is a beach and reef setup, so the reef might offer some shape, but the beach breaks are going to be powerful and a bit straight.
After that, it's all downhill. Thursday, July 23rd has a 3.6ft west swell, then it's back to tiny, knee-high waves for the rest of the outlook. The crowd factor is "sometimes", so you might see a few others for that Wednesday session, but it won't be packed.
So, don't bother paddling out until the 21st. The only day that's truly worth the wait is the afternoon of Wednesday, July 22nd. A proper 8.2ft west swell with clean offshore wind. It's a long way out, so take it with a grain of salt, but it's the only real highlight on the charts.
