Table - best surf conditions forecast for Freshwater east over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again. I’m gonna keep it real with you: this forecast for Freshwater East is a total bummer. Over the next 16 days, there’s just nothing worth paddling out for. The water is sitting at 63°F right now, which is a solid 4°F warmer than what’s normal for this time of year, so at least it’s a nice temperature for a swim.
This is a very sheltered little beach and reef setup. It rarely breaks, and you can see why in this data. There’s a big lull at the start, and every single day is marked as "poor surf conditions."
Let’s walk through it. Thursday the 9th looks glassy with a tiny 1-foot W swell, but it’s got no power at all, energy reading of just (26). The afternoon goes offshore, but the swell is still only 1-foot. Flat.
Friday the 10th we get a little bump to 2-foot from the W, but the energy is still weak (65 and 69). The morning has a little cross-onshore ripple, so it’s messy. The afternoon cleans up, but you’re looking at a weak, dribbly wave. Saturday the 11th is even worse, dropping back to 1-foot with a short 8-second period.
Sunday the 12th is a straight-up mess. A 2-foot E swell with a terrible 4-second period and a 12 mph cross-onshore wind? That’s just choppy slop. The afternoon has a weird 0.3-foot swell with a 21-second period, which is a weird combo, but it’s so small it doesn’t matter.
Monday the 13th finally shows some energy at (107) with a 4-foot E swell. But the wind is a howling 19 mph cross-onshore. That’s blown-out, lumpy junk. Tuesday the 14th is more of the same: 4-foot E swell, but a direct onshore wind. It’s a washing machine.
The rest of the run into the second week never gets good. The swell hangs around 2-foot to 3-foot, but the energy stays low (40-80 range), and the wind is never right. A few mornings look clean, like Thursday the 16th with a light offshore and a 4-foot E swell, but it’s still a weak, short-period wave. Not worth the effort.
So, the honest truth? There is no best day. No standout. If you had to pick, the morning of the 16th might be the least terrible, but it’s still a flat, weak day. For a spot like this, a long stretch of nothing is just part of the deal. Forecasts can change, but right now, save your energy. Stick to the beach or the pool.
Rusty.
