Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Freshwater East.
Honestly, looking out over the next couple of weeks, it's a pretty quiet picture. There's a lot of time where the ocean is just not doing much for us. This spot is a very sheltered setup, and it rarely breaks, so we're going to see a long stretch of tiny, poor surf. We're talking about days and days of nothing much at all from the 12th right through to the morning of the 27th of July. The wave energy is almost non-existent, mostly sitting in the double digits – like 25, 44, or 50 (weak energy) – and the swell heights are barely a ripple. There are a few fleeting moments of glassy water, like the afternoon of the 14th, but with only 0.6ft on offer, it’s a lake, not a break.
The only real event in the whole window arrives on the morning of the 27th of July. That Monday morning, a 6ft swell from the west-southwest rolls in with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps up to 433 (moderate wave energy), which is a noticeable pulse. The wind is light and offshore from the west-northwest, which will keep things clean. That said, 6ft is a bit of a jump from nothing, and with the beach-and-reef setup, it could be a bit of a handful. The short period (8 seconds) means it won't be the most organised, but it's the only real swell we're going to see. For a spot that rarely breaks, this is a short-lived window of opportunity.
So, for the few of you who are keen, the 27th of July morning is your only real shot. Don't expect much else.
Rusty.
