The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty, and I've got the surf outlook for Forjos.
Alright, look, I'm gonna be straight with you – the next sixteen days at Forjos are a write-off. There's not a single good surf option in the window. Every single forecast window is marked as "poor surf conditions," and you can see that in the scores. The water's a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 80°, about 2° above average, but that's about the only positive.
We start with a rain shower on Wednesday, August 19th, with onshore winds from the SE at 16 mph and a 7 ft swell from the SE at 11 seconds. That's pumping in 881 units of moderate energy, but with that wind, it's a mess. It's only going downhill from there. The swell drops a bit, but the wind stays stubbornly onshore or cross-onshore, creating choppy, poor conditions nearly every day.
There's a big spike in energy on Wednesday, August 26th, when a long-period swell from the S at 15 seconds pushes in, with a massive 1590 units of combined energy. But again, the wind is from the ESE, blowing straight onshore or cross-onshore, ruining any chance of clean waves. The swell period is long, which would normally mean better-shaped waves, but with that wind, it's just a choppy, lumpy mess. For the rest of the stretch, we're looking at small, weak swells from the east with periods as short as 6 or 7 seconds, and the wind keeps up the same pattern. It's not looking like it'll get good for a paddle, and honestly, with the steady onshore flow and small, choppy surf, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The whole sixteen-day forecast is a blank run for Forjos. It's a fairly consistent break, so when it's not working, it's a real bummer, but it's just how it goes sometimes.
