Alright, Rusty here again. Let's talk about Forjos in feet and miles per hour, for those who think that way.
The next couple of weeks are pretty slow out of the gate. Not much wave action, and the wind's blowing from the wrong direction most of the time. The water's about 80°, which is normal for this time of year.
Now, the one real standout comes on Saturday, July 11th. Forjos is the spot to be that morning. We're looking at waves around 4ft coming from the SE with a 12-second period. The energy in the water is moderate. The big win is the wind. It's a light 5 km/h breeze from the NE, making it glassy. The waves will be clean and smooth. This is a beginner wave and it breaks very often, but be aware it can get crowded sometimes. The swell direction is a little off from the best S direction for this break, but with those glassy conditions, it'll still be fun. The afternoon gets a little choppy, so get out there early.
Before that, the first week is a tough watch. Sunday the 5th of July is flat and windy. Monday the 6th is worse, with stronger cross-onshore winds. Through to Friday the 10th, you'll see a few small waves but nothing that'll get your heart racing.
After that Saturday highlight, it goes back to being poor. From Sunday the 12th through the rest of the second week, it's small and choppy. We do get a longer period groundswell on Tuesday the 14th of July, with 4ft waves from the S at a 14-second period and moderate energy, but the wind is cross-shore, so expect a bit of bump.
Finally, on Monday the 20th of July, a big S groundswell arrives. Waves are 5ft in the morning, pushing 6ft in the afternoon, with a very long 19-second period and massive energy. But it's blowing onshore, so it'll be a messy, blown-out mess. That's way too big and ugly for a beginner break like Forjos. Honestly, that might be better for kite surfers than paddle surfers.
So, to keep it simple: your best shot is Saturday morning, July 11th, at Forjos.
Rusty.
