The Lowdown
Alright, let me look at the forecast for Forjos. It’s a rough one, folks.
The water’s warm, 80°, just a smidge warmer than the average for this time of year.
The first week is a total bust. We’ve got plenty of swell – 10 feet on Saturday morning, 18 July – but the wind is howling from the southeast at 22 mph, straight onshore. The swell period is only 8 seconds, so it’s all lumps and bumps. The energy is high (1075), but it’s messy. That’s kite-surfing weather, not for a normal surfer.
This stays ugly through the 20th, 21st, and 22nd. The wind stays on it, and the period never gets above 9 seconds. A few days later, like the 23rd, the swell drops to 5 feet, but the wind is still cross-on, and the quality is poor.
Then the swell just dies. From the 25th to the 29th, we’re looking at 3 feet or less, with energy dropping to 100 or less. It’s flat.
The only glimmer is on Thursday, 30 July. A long-period south groundswell comes through – 16 seconds, with energy of 1112. It’s only 4 feet, but that long period has some punch. The wind is cross-shore from the NE at 13 mph, which is okay, but it’s a cross-chop. It’s a marginal call, the model gives it a 2/10, but for this whole stretch, it’s the only window with any real hope. For a beach break like Forjos, that long period might make the waves hard to catch, wrapping too straight, but it’s your best and only chance.
So, no real standouts here. The 30th is the one to watch, but don’t get your hopes too high. It’s been a quiet spell.
