The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. Looking at the 16-day picture for Forjos, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch. The whole run starts with a real flat, poor spell. There’s a big gap with zero recommendations. We’re looking at a solid two-week stretch of mostly onshore winds and messy conditions. Stick with me, because there’s a glimmer right at the very end.
The first real chance of anything decent doesn’t show up until Tuesday the 28th afternoon. The morning’s still rubbish, but by the afternoon, a long-period S swell rolls in at 4 ft, with a period of 18 seconds. That’s proper groundswell, lads. The energy’s moderate (1154), but with gentle cross-onshore winds from the E at 9 mph, it’s the cleanest we’ll see in the whole outlook. The water temp is around 80°, which is about average for this time of year.
This is your standout, but it’s a long way off, so treat it as promising but not locked in. Forjos is a beginner-friendly break, and it’s very consistent, but for this one afternoon, it might be a little too clean for a beginner to pass up. The best part is that the swell direction from the S aligns with what this spot likes. Crowds can pop up here sometimes, so keep that in mind.
Wednesday the 29th, the swell jumps up to 7 ft to 8 ft from the S, with a period of 15-16 seconds. That’s very strong energy (up to 2984), but the wind is up to 16 mph cross-onshore, and the report says poor surf conditions. That’s a lot of power with messy wind, which is a classic setup for kite surfing more than a clean paddle session. For experts only, and even then, it’s a gamble.
So, the honest truth? The first couple of weeks are a write-off. The only real window is that Tuesday afternoon (28th) and maybe the very early morning of the 29th before the wind gets too strong. It’s a long wait for a short window, but that 18-second period will have some real grunt in the water.
Rusty, signing off.
