The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into the outlook for our local stretch.
Well, I gotta be honest with you, the next 16 days are looking pretty grim. Forjos is the only spot on the radar, and it’s just not delivering. The whole forecast period is plagued by messy, cross-onshore winds that are chopping up what little energy is out there. The water temp is sitting at 80°F, which is about average for this time of year, so at least a dip won't be a shock.
We’re starting off on Monday the 31st of August, and it’s a no-go. Forjos is seeing a 6 ft swell from the ESE, but with a 12 mph cross-on wind, it’s just a lumpy, bumpy mess. The combined energy is moderate at best (525), but the wind kills it. This pattern locks in hard. Tuesday the 1st through the whole first week is more of the same: 4 ft to 6 ft of swell, but constantly blown out by cross to cross-onshore winds between 12 and 19 mph. The period is short, around 7 to 9 seconds, so it’s weak, wind-slapped, and poor. The best description I can give is "moderate cross-onshore and choppy", which is surf-speak for "stay at home."
There’s a gap of about a week here with absolutely no chance of a decent wave. Things don’t look any better into the second week. By Monday the 14th of September, we see a tiny bump in energy (510), but it’s still 5 ft of choppy, cross-onshore junk. The rest of the run through to Tuesday the 15th is the same story: small swell, onshore wind, and poor conditions. The combined energy values drop right down to the 100-300 range, confirming the weakness.
There is simply no standout day. No window where the wind aligns with the swell. It’s a solid 16-day blank. For an exposed beginner spot like Forjos, it tends not to stay this bad for long, but right now, this is one of those stretches where you just have to wait it out. The set-up is so poor that it honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, given the consistent cross-shore winds.
Rusty.
