The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a tough stretch for waves at Forjos. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a write-off, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it. There’s swell, sure, but it’s almost always paired with a cross-onshore wind that’s gonna leave it choppy and messy. The water temp is sitting at 80°F right now, which is bang on average for this time of year, so at least you won’t be freezing while you’re staring at the bump.
The first real chance to get wet doesn’t really come with a recommendation. The entire period from the 9th through to the 24th is marked as poor surf conditions. Every single slot. That’s a solid two-week blank. The swell height does pop up a bit around the 11th, with 5 ft from the ESE, but the wind is ruining it. The combined energy hits a strong 798 on the 12th morning, but it’s still cross-on and choppy. A couple of afternoons, like the 13th and 14th, have the wind flipping onshore, but with a short 8-second period, it’s not going to have any shape. The energy is unremarkable.
Of all the days, the one that might offer a tiny glimmer is the 18th. We’ve got 6 ft swell from the ESE on Friday morning, with the wind reported as “on,” so it might be a bit cleaner. But the period is a short 7 seconds, and the energy is moderate at 524. If you’re desperate, you could look, but for a beginner spot like Forjos, 6 ft is pushing it, and without a proper offshore wind, it’s just gonna be a washing machine. The 18th afternoon is much the same – 6 ft, still onshore, still messy.
Honestly, for nearly two weeks, the wind is the enemy. It’s a beach break setup, so with these cross-onshore breezes and that short-period swell, it’s looking more like a kite surfer’s playground than a paddle surfer’s paradise. The long-period 16-second swell that shows up on the 12th is a tease – it’s a groundswell, which would be quality if it had a clean wind, but it’s just a bump under a chop. On the bright side, with this run of consistency in the poor conditions, it’s normal for the area to have a blank spell. The forecast can change, but for now, leave the boards in the car.
