The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this 16-day stretch for the region is a tough one to call as a surfer. We’re looking at a long, long gap before anything even worth paddling out for, and even then, it's a real mission.
The first sign of a proper swell window doesn't arrive until Monday, August 3rd, and even then it's a real struggle. For over a week, from the 30th of July right through to the 3rd of August, conditions are blown out by cross-off and onshore winds, with short-period, weak swell making for nothing but choppy, poor surf. The combined energy is weak, sitting in the low two-digit to high two-digit range (98 to 383), which is a major red flag.
The best (and honestly, only) real chance to get a wave is at Forjos. This spot is a beginner-friendly, very consistent break that’s exposed to the south. The water temperature is around 80°, which is about 2° warmer than average for this time of year – nothing unusual, just a touch on the mild side.
Now, the standout moment comes on Monday morning, August 3rd. The swell hits 6 ft from the ESE with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy climbs to 383 (moderate). But the real key is the wind: a light cross-shore from the ENE at 6 mph. This is the only window where the surf looks like it might be clean and rideable, with light wind ripples. It’s still rated as marginal, so don't expect perfection, but it’s the only moment in the entire forecast that’s worth a look. The rest of the period is a write-off, with onshore winds, rain showers, and choppy conditions.
The following week from August 8th onward just gets worse. The swell energy is weak, the wind is cross-on or onshore, and the combined energy values are all moderate to weak (180 to 286). There’s a glimmer of a long-period (14 seconds) swell on the 12th of August, but it’s hammered by onshore winds and the energy is moderate (464). The period is too long for a beach break anyway, so it’s a pass.
Honestly, if you’re not a beginner and you’re not fixing to surf on that Monday morning, you’re better off staying home. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for most of this run.
Rusty.
