Alright folks, Rusty here, checking in with the local scoop for the next couple of weeks. To be honest, it's a tough one for us. We're staring down a long stretch of pretty flat, messy conditions, so don't get your hopes up too high.

Looking at the whole 16-day window, the pattern is clear: small, weak swell and persistent cross-onshore winds. There's no real standout session, nothing that gets the heart racing. The first real chance to even consider paddling out doesn't show up until Monday, July 13th, and even then it's a struggle.

Let's walk through it. For the first few days, from Saturday the 11th right through Sunday the 12th, we've got tiny 2 ft SSW swell with a 15-second period. That's a long-period groundswell, but it's so small and the wind is on it or cross-on, so it's just a waste. The combined energy is weak, sitting around 150 (151-164). The water is a touch warmer than normal at 64°.

Monday morning, July 13th, is the first glimpse of something. We get a brief window of glassy conditions. The swell is still only 2 ft from the SSW, period 13 seconds, and the energy is weak (107). The wave comment calls it "surfable but very ordinary," and that's being generous. It's the only real moment of clean conditions in the first week, but with that tiny swell, it's more of a longboard cruise than a proper surf. The wind goes back to cross-on by the afternoon, so that window closes fast.

After that, it's a desert. From Tuesday the 14th through to Friday the 18th of July, the swell stays pitiful – mostly under 3 ft, with periods all over the place from a short 6 seconds up to a long 17 seconds. The wind is consistently cross-on or cross-shore, and the combined energy is weak, only breaking into the triple digits a couple of times. The wave comments are all "poor surf conditions." There's a six-day stretch from Tuesday to Saturday where there's literally nothing worth recommending.

We finally get a slight pulse of energy on Saturday the 18th afternoon, with the combined energy jumping to 373 and the swell picking up to 2 ft from the SSE. But it's still light cross-on and the comment is only "marginal." The same goes for Sunday the 19th – energy up to 313, same 2 ft swell, but it's onshore. It's a tease, not a treat.

The second week looks a little more active on the energy scale, but the quality doesn't follow. Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st are back to poor, with energy around 133 and 246. Wednesday the 22nd is the same story. The last real chance is on Saturday the 26th, where the combined energy hits 279 with a 2 ft SSW swell, 18-second period, and the comment says "marginal." But again, the wind is cross-on.

Fernald Point is a point break that rarely breaks anyway, and it's living up to that reputation. It's a beginner spot, but for the entire 16-day run, the swell is simply too small and the wind is almost always wrong. The optimal swell direction is SW, and we get some of that, but it's just not enough to overcome the constant cross-onshore breeze. The crowds are possible here, but honestly, I doubt anyone will be out.

This is one of those stretches where the forecast can change, but right now, it's a solid blank run. The setup looks far more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, given the persistent cross-shore winds and small, weak waves. Keep your gear waxed and wait for the next system.

Rusty.
