The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down Embare in feet and Fahrenheit.
The water’s about 67°F, which is right on the money for this time of year. Nothing weird going on there.
The first week is a tough one. We’re starting on Sunday, July 19th, with a tiny 2ft swell from the ESE at a short 8 seconds. The combined energy is a weak 72. It’s just not enough. The wind is cross-offshore, but it’s like trying to surf a lake. Monday through the rest of the week it’s the same story: tiny waves, mostly 2ft to 2ft, and the wind is either onshore or cross-onshore, making it choppy and ugly. A lot of “poor surf conditions” in the forecast.
There’s a small bump on the 24th and 25th of July, with the swell pushing 4ft to 5ft from the SSE, and the energy climbs into the 300s, but the wind is still cross-onshore. It’s not clean.
The only real standout is the first weekend of August. Saturday, August 1st, is the day. The morning is tiny and glassy, but the afternoon is on. A 4ft swell from the SSE, but with a very long 15-second period. That’s proper groundswell. The energy is a strong 638. And the wind? Glassy. Zero wind. It’s going to be clean. Expect good surf. Sunday morning, August 2nd, is a direct copy with a 4ft swell, 14-second period, and glassy conditions again (energy 556). That’s your window.
The break is listed as “sheltered” and crowds are “sometimes,” so you won’t be alone, but it’s not a zoo. The long period means it’ll be better if it’s a point or reef. For the beach, it might be a bit straight.
So here’s the plan: deal with the first week and a half of tiny, crappy surf. The best bet is the afternoon of Saturday, August 1st, and the morning of Sunday, August 2nd. That’s the gold.
Rusty.
