The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's be honest about the surf outlook for the next couple of weeks. We've got one spot on the radar, and it's a tough one.
The Dunes Hotel (Miami) is our only option, and it's a sheltered, inconsistent beginner wave. The water is running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, at 87°F. But the news is mostly grim for the foreseeable future.
The whole 16-day window is a flat spell. There's no real swell to speak of. We're looking at a long, dry gap from the start right through to the end of July. The combined wave energy barely cracks double digits, with the highest reading being a weak 42 (moderate) on the 29th of July, but that's still with lousy winds.
We get a tiny peak of energy on the 25th and 26th of July, with combined swell energy hitting 21 (weak) and some tiny 2ft swell from the SSE. The wind is cross-onshore, though, so it's going to be a choppy, messy 2ft. If you're a beginner on a foamie and just want to get wet, the 28th and 29th of July have the highest swell heights at 3ft and 3ft from the SSE, but the period is a short, weak 4-5 seconds, and the cross-onshore winds will make it a bumpy mess. The combined energy on the 29th is 42 (moderate), but with poor conditions, it's a pass.
The only real standout, if you can call it that, is the morning of the 16th of July. It's only 0.7ft, but it's glassy. That's the cleanest the water will be, but there's no power to ride. For the rest of the window, it's a constant battle of small, weak swell and choppy, onshore wind. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, as the consistent cross-onshore breeze and small, weak swell are a better fit for a kite.
Don't hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but for now, it's a long, flat wait.
Rusty.
