Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening in your local waters. I’ll be straight up – this is a tough outlook. We’re looking at a near-empty forecast for the next 16 days. The only spot on the map is Dunes Hotel (Miami), and honestly, it’s a quiet one.
Right off the bat, we have a long stretch of nothing. The first recommendation doesn’t really kick in until Tuesday morning, July 7th, and even then, it’s barely a whisper. The water temp here is sitting about average for this time of year, nothing weird.
July 7th (Tuesday) through July 22nd (Wednesday) – This whole period is a write-off for serious surfing. The dominant story is tiny, weak swell. Most days the combined swell energy is barely a blip, often single digits. For example, the highest energy we see is 56 on Friday the 10th, but even that comes with a 3 ft swell from the SE, a short period of 5 seconds, and choppy cross-onshore winds. That’s a messy, gutless combo. The swell direction is mostly SE or NE, and the spot is sheltered with an optimum from the NE, so it’s not even lining up right.
Most mornings and afterdays are plagued by cross-onshore or onshore winds. There are a couple of clean moments – like Monday morning, July 13th, with a light offshore from the NW, but the swell is just 0.3 ft. You could paddle out on a log and not catch a thing. The same goes for Tuesday morning, July 14th, with clean conditions but still flat. The consistent pattern here is poor surf conditions across the board.
Because the swell is tiny and the quality is so poor, this setup looks way more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. There’s just no power in the water for us. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s pretty normal when the wind and swell don’t align. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, leave the boards in the car.
Rusty.
