Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's be straight with you about the surf situation in Miami. Looking at the full run, I gotta be honest – it's a flat spell and it ain't pretty. There's not a single day in the next 16 days that I'd recommend paddling out. This is a blank run, and for a spot like Dunes Hotel (Miami) which is already sheltered and inconsistent, this is pretty normal when the swell window shuts down.

We're starting off Friday, July 3rd. The ocean's got tiny, weak 1 ft swell coming from the NNE with a short period of just 7 seconds. The combined swell energy is a measly 21 – that's weak. The wind is a light cross-onshore breeze at 6 mph from the SSE, but it's not helping. The water's sitting at 87°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but you won't care 'cause there's nothing to ride. Conditions are described as poor surf with small wind ripples.

Saturday the 4th is even worse. Swell drops to 0.7 ft on the morning with a period of just 6 seconds and only 7 combined energy. Light cross-shore wind from the SSE at 6 mph. There's a risk of thunderstorms too. The afternoon picks up a bit to 1 ft, but the period falls to a pathetic 4 seconds and the wind gets stronger at 12 mph from the SE, making it a moderate cross-onshore chop. No good.

Sunday the 5th stays tiny. 1 ft swell, 4-second period, weak energy of just 5. Light cross-onshore breeze in the morning, moderate breeze in the afternoon. You're looking at rippled and choppy water. Monday the 6th is more of the same – 1 ft swell, 4-second period, and risk of thunderstorms in the morning. The wind picks up to 9 mph from the SSE, keeping it choppy.

Tuesday the 7th sees a slight bump in swell to 2 ft in the afternoon, but the period is still only 4 seconds and the energy is just 11. It's a gentle cross-onshore breeze, but the surf is described as poor. Through Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th we get tiny improvements – 2 ft to 3 ft swell on Thursday morning with a 5-second period and a combined energy of 32. That's still weak and poor. By Thursday afternoon, we get a 0.3 ft swell from the NE with a longer 10-second period, but it's hardly surfable.

Friday the 10th brings the highest swell of the run: 4 ft in the morning from the SE with a 6-second period and combined energy of 96. That's the best energy we see, but it's still moderate at best, and the wind is a moderate cross-onshore at 12 mph from the SE, making it choppy and poor. The afternoon drops back to 1.0 ft.

Saturday the 11th is a 2 ft swell with a 5-second period and 27 energy. Light cross-shore wind from the S at 6 mph keeps it a bit cleaner, but it's still poor. Sunday the 12th morning we actually get glassy conditions with an ESE breeze at just 3 mph, but the swell is only 0.3 ft from the NE with a 10-second period. The combined energy is 9 – basically flat. Afternoon brings 2 ft swell but a moderate cross-onshore.

The second week doesn't get any better. Monday the 13th morning has glassy conditions with 2 ft swell from the SE and a 4-second period, energy at 17. It's tiny and weak. Tuesday the 14th morning is similar – glassy, 2 ft swell, 4-second period, 12 energy. But it's still poor surf. Wednesday the 15th brings a bit of onshore wind from the E, 1 ft swell, period of 4 seconds. Thursday the 16th has a 0.3 ft swell from the E with an 8-second period but only 1 energy – it's dead.

From there to the end, Friday the 17th through Saturday the 18th, we're looking at 0.3 ft to 1.0 ft swells with periods between 4 and 9 seconds and energy from 1 to 4. The wind turns onshore from the E and ESE, and conditions are unknown but likely messy.

Honestly, if you're looking to paddle, there's nothing here. The whole 16-day window is a write-off. The setup is so weak and poorly aligned that it looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Don't hold your breath, but these things can change. I'll be watching.

Rusty.
