The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a good hard look at what’s on offer for Dique de Cabedelo over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the first week or so is a bit of a struggle. The surf is small and the wind is mostly cross or cross-off, keeping things from really cleaning up nicely. The best bet looks like Monday, 3rd of August, when the swell pushes up to 6 ft from the ESE and the combined energy hits 546 (moderate wave energy). Morning is the call, with a moderate breeze from the SE keeping it cross-off and clean. The period is short at 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit of a short-period, wind swell affair, but there’s enough juice in the water to get a few punchy ones. It’s considered a marginal call, so you’ll need to pick your tide right. This break is a beginner-friendly breakwater, so that 6 ft swell might be pushing it for the absolute beginners, but it’s still manageable.
The water temperature here is about average for the time of year, so no need to worry about a wetsuit or a rashie.
Beyond that, the surf drops back down. Thursday afternoon, 6th of August, offers a glimmer with 3 ft from the E and a gentle breeze making it clean, but the energy is low (130) and the conditions are described as very ordinary. You’ll get a few waves, but it’s not going to set the world on fire.
The rest of the second week is a flat, uneventful run. Swell heights stay under 4 ft, periods are short, and the energy is weak. There’s nothing here that gets the heart racing. It’s a frustrating stretch, but it won’t stay this way forever – forecasts can change. For now, Monday morning, 3rd of August, is the only real standout, and even that’s a bit of a gamble.
