The Lowdown

G'day, Rusty here, and I gotta be straight with you – looking at this 16-day window for our local waters, it's a pretty grim run. The forecast is a long stretch of poor surf with no real standouts, so we're in for a quiet period. There's a whole lot of nothing on offer, and it's going to take a while for things to change.

The first recommendation is for Dique de Cabedelo. The water temp is sitting at 80°, which is a normal 0.9° above average for this time of year, so nothing wild there.

We start off on Thursday, July 30th, with a tiny 3 ft swell from the ESE, but it's a short period of 6 seconds and the energy is weak (71). The wind is a cross-off, but it's clean. Still, the surf is just too poor to get excited about. Friday the 31st is even smaller, with 1 ft of swell from the NE and ESE, period around 8-9 seconds, and energy is very low (36-45). Saturday, August 1st, sees a bump in size to 6 ft from the ESE, but the period is short at 8 seconds and the wind is a fresh 22 mph cross-off. The energy is moderate (334), but the conditions are still poor. Sunday and Monday are similar, with waves around 3 ft to 4 ft, short periods, and moderate cross-off winds. The energy stays in the low to moderate range (103-216).

The middle of the week doesn't get better. Tuesday, August 4th, we have 5 ft from the E, but the wind switches to a cross-shore and there's a cross-chop, making it messy. The energy is moderate (349). Wednesday, August 5th, is the only day that gets a marginal rating, with a 5 ft swell from the E, a cross-off wind, and clean conditions. The energy is moderate (272-286). After that, it's back to tiny surf from Thursday, August 6th, right through to the end of the forecast on Friday, August 14th. The swell drops to 2 ft to 5 ft, with periods mostly between 6 and 8 seconds. The winds are a mix of cross-off, cross, and cross-on, and the energy is mostly weak to moderate (46-203). The surf quality is consistently poor.

Honestly, there's no standout session here. The only day that even sniffs a recommendation is Wednesday, August 5th, but even that's marginal. For a break like Dique de Cabedelo, which is fairly consistent, this blank run is a bit of a bummer, but forecasts can change. For now, you're better off keeping the board in the car and waiting for a better window.

Stay patient, and I'll catch you next time.
