Hey, it's Rusty. Let's size up what's headed for Corals over the next couple of weeks. The early part of the window is pretty quiet – small, weak swells and ordinary winds. But there are a couple of mornings that'll fire if you time it right.
Tuesday July 7 starts with a tiny 2.3ft easterly swell, period 8 seconds, and cross-off wind. The energy is weak (114) – not worth paddling out. Wednesday July 8 morning goes glassy but the swell drops to 1.6ft from the SSE, period 11 seconds, energy 146 – still too small to get excited about. Thursday July 9 morning is the first real hint of life: 3.3ft SSE groundswell, period 12 seconds, glassy conditions, and moderate energy (303). That's a clean little session, but the swell is still modest.
Friday July 10 morning sees the swell building to 3.9ft from the SE, period 12 seconds, but cross-shore wind spoils it a bit. Energy is up to 410 – moderate. Not the best.
Now, Saturday July 11 morning – that's the standout. Glassy conditions, 4.3ft SE swell with a lovely 13-second period, and energy of 576. This is proper groundswell, clean and lined up. The reef should handle the direction well. Just a heads-up, crowds are possible here. This is the best session of the first week, no doubt.
Sunday July 12 morning is also glassy with 3.6ft SE swell, 12 seconds, energy 328 – good, but not as punchy as Saturday. The wind stays clean through the morning. After that, the surf drops back Monday and Tuesday, with tiny 2.0ft on July 14 morning glassy but weak.
Then the second week shows some promise. Wednesday July 16 morning brings 5.2ft SSE swell, period only 6 seconds (short-period windswell), but clean cross-off wind and energy 219 – surfable, but not the quality you'd want. Friday July 17 morning is the other standout: 4.9ft SSE swell, period
