The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be real – this 16-day stretch at Milionarios is mostly a bust. There’s a long gap of nothing at the start, then a couple of fleeting moments of hope, and right at the end a morning that actually looks like it could be a treat. The first surfable day doesn't roll in until Tuesday, August 11th, and even that’s nothing special. After that, another quiet patch before two mornings that are worth setting the alarm for.

The only break we’ve got is Milionarios, a beginner-friendly, inconsistent spot that needs that ESE direction to fire. The water is sitting at around 79°F – pretty average for this time of year.

On Wednesday, August 5th, the morning is clean with a 4ft ESE swell, glassy cross-offshore wind from the SSW at 3 mph. The energy is moderate at 264, and the waves are shaping up nicely. But the afternoon turns into a choppy mess. Then we hit a real dead zone from Thursday through to Monday, August 10th – tiny, weak, short-period junk with onshore winds. Not worth a second look.

Tuesday, August 11th morning finally gives us something: a 3ft E swell, 8-second period, glassy conditions with a S wind at 3 mph. It’s just surfable – moderate energy at 136 – but after days of nothing, it’s a welcome paddle. Afternoon turns onshore again, so make it a dawn patrol.

Then another gap until Saturday, August 15th morning. That’s a micro 1ft SSE groundswell with a very long 15-second period and a light N cross-shore. Energy is moderate at 262, but the swell is tiny – not even a proper knee-high.

Now the real standout: Sunday, August 16th morning. Dead calm wind from the NW – glassy as glass. A 2ft ESE swell with a long 12-second period. Energy is moderate at 235. The long period will give those waves some real shape and big lulls, making paddling out easy. This is the session to circle on the calendar. Clean, fun, beginner-friendly.

Monday, August 17th morning, you get a 2ft SSE groundswell (14-second period) with light cross-on wind – clean but tiny, moderate energy at 209. Tuesday, August 18th morning, sees a 7ft ESE swell roll in with moderate energy at 498, but the period is a short 7 seconds and the wind is cross-on. That’s a messy, lumpy wall – expert-only and not great quality.

So the two bright spots are the Tuesday August 11th morning glass-off and the Sunday August 16th morning glass-off. The 16th is the clear winner: smaller swell but perfect conditions. The rest of the forecast is a long, dry stretch. It won’t stay this quiet forever – forecasts can change – but for now, pick your windows carefully.

Rusty.
