Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coombesgate Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, for the first week and a half, it’s a tough go. We’re looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak, and mostly messy conditions. From the 10th through the 23rd, the swell is barely a ripple, with heights mostly under 2.6 ft and combined energy readings that are weak, often in the single digits to low thirties. The wind is all over the place, but rarely doing us any favors. There’s a few glassy moments on the morning of the 16th, but with only 1 ft on offer, it’s barely a paddle. It’s a solid two-week wait for anything worth getting properly wet for.
The real story, the one that’s got my heart thumping, kicks off on Friday the 24th of July. That’s when we finally get a proper pulse of groundswell. Coombesgate Beach (beach and reef) is our only spot on the menu, and it’s looking like a late-month hero.
Friday the 24th of July is the standout. Early morning we’ve got a solid 11.5 ft swell from the W, with a period of 10 seconds and a clean, moderate offshore wind from the ESE. The water is pumping with a combined energy of 2457 – that’s serious power. This is strictly for the experienced crew, as it’s way over the 8 ft mark. The afternoon sees the swell bump up to 13.1 ft with a longer period of 11 seconds, but the wind swings more cross-off, and the rating drops a little.
Saturday the 25th of July is the follow-up. The morning is still excellent for experienced surfers, with a 7.9 ft W swell, an 11-second period, and a light cross-off breeze from the S. The energy is still strong at 2337. The afternoon, however, gets a bit choppy with a cross-on wind.
So, your one true standout is the morning of Friday the 24th. It’s a long way off, so keep an eye on the charts, but that’s the window to circle on the calendar. Be aware, the water temperature is a notable 63.1°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might not need the thickest rubber.
