Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coombesgate Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get this straight. I’ve had a good look at the charts for Coombesgate Beach, and honestly, it’s a bit of a tough stretch. The swell is tiny and the winds are mostly messy. The water is sitting at 64°F, which is a solid 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a real standout, feeling more like a bath than a typical North Sea dip.
Now, for the rest of the outlook. This run kicks off with a real dud. Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are just flat with strong cross-off winds, nothing to even bother paddling out for. The combined energy is barely a whisper, around 11 to 12, so you’re looking at glassy water but no waves to ride.
The pattern drags on through Tuesday and Wednesday the 16th. There’s a tiny 0.3ft swell from the west, but it’s short period, between 8 and 9 seconds. The wind does turn light offshore on Wednesday the 15th afternoon and Thursday the 16th morning, which would make the surface glassy clean, but the swell is just too weak to push anything worthwhile. The energy is still pathetic, sitting in the 20s and 30s.
We see a bit of a bump from Saturday the 18th through to Monday the 20th, with swell up to 3ft, but it’s all short-period, onshore wind garbage. The wind is straight on from the west or cross-on, making it choppy and blown out. The energy climbs to 74, but it’s all windswell with no shape. This is a write-off for surfing.
Now, the only window that gets a mention peeks through on Wednesday the 22nd of July. The swell jumps to 8ft from the west, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy spikes to 687 (moderate), but the wind is straight onshore from the west-northwest at 6 mph. That’s a big, messy, close-out shorebreak. The guidance gives it a score of 1 out of 10, calling it “marginal” due to tide issues. This is expert-only territory, and it’s not going to be pretty. The swell is too big and the wind is on it, so it’s more of a washing machine than a wave face.
After that, it drops off again. The last week of the forecast shows the swell fading back to 1ft to 3ft with onshore winds, and the energy draining back to single digits. The 27th of July is barely a ripple.
So, to be honest, there’s really nothing to recommend here. The whole 16-day window is a blank run for decent surf. The only faint pulse is the 22nd, but it’s a messy, expert-only close-out with onshore wind. For a beginner or even an intermediate, it’s a complete washout. The area is just not delivering this time. Keep an eye on the longer-range, but right now, leave the board at home.
Rusty.
