Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coombesgate Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's cut through it. We've got one spot on the radar for this 16-day stretch, and honestly, it's a tough one. The overall pattern is a real bummer, with a long gap of nothing worthwhile right at the start, and then pretty much nothing worthwhile for the whole run.
The first surf recommendation doesn't pop up until Wednesday the 8th of July, and even then, it's a sad story. We're looking at Coombesgate Beach, a beach and reef setup. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won't be freezing.
The first few days are a total write-off. From Wednesday the 8th right through to the end of the first week, we've got tiny, weak swell. The combined energy is flirting with numbers in the 40s and 30s, which is weak energy. The 8th has a 2ft swell from the W with a 9-second period, but the wave comment says "poor surf conditions" and the score is a zero. Thursday the 9th morning has glassy conditions with a 3 mph NNW wind, but the swell is still only 2ft – it's clean but there's nothing to ride. Friday the 10th has a bit more size at 2ft, but the wind is a cross-off or cross-on, and the quality is still poor. The weekend and into the next week are even worse, with swell dropping to 0.3ft and 0.7ft. The combined energy dips to single digits, like 11 and 8. That's barely a ripple. The 12th of July has a 21-second period on a 0.3ft swell, which is silly – that long period energy is just a ghost with no height.
There's a big gap of no recommendations in the middle of the fortnight. Truly, the whole 16-day window is a desert. The only flicker of a change comes right at the end. On Sunday the 20th of July, we see the swell bump up to 3ft from the NNW, but the period is a shocking 4 seconds. That's pure wind chop. The combined energy gets up to 35, but the wind is a near gale on the 20th afternoon, blowing 31 mph from the WSW cross-on. It's a blown-out mess. The 21st isn't any better, with more strong cross-onshore winds and lumpy conditions. The last few days, the 22nd and 23rd, are back to tiny, onshore slop.
There is no standout. There is nothing to get excited about. The setup is a beach and reef, but with this kind of onshore wind and tiny swell, honestly, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on those windy days, but even then, the conditions are messy.
Rusty, signing off.
