Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coombesgate Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s happening at Coombesgate Beach.
Honestly, it’s a pretty grim run for the next couple of weeks. The forecast just doesn’t want to line up for us. For the first ten days or so, from now through to late July, the surf is almost non-existent. We’re looking at tiny little dribbles of swell—mostly under 2ft—and while the wind is often off or cross-off, keeping things clean, the combined wave energy is pitiful, stuck below 100. It’s just not enough to push a decent wave. There’s a huge gap here where you’re better off doing something else. The water is sitting at 63°, which is much warmer than normal for the time of year—over three and a half degrees above average—so at least a dip won’t sting.
The only real glimmer of hope comes right at the tail end of the outlook. On Wednesday, the 22nd of July, things get interesting briefly. We’ve got a 3ft swell rolling in from the west with a period of 6 seconds. The energy picks up just a touch (91), so it’s weak overall, but the real kicker is the wind. It goes glassy—zero wind on the afternoon, just calm and clean. Even though the surf is only "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions" that day, the total lack of wind makes it a rare window. For a spot like this, a morning and afternoon of glassy conditions on a knee-high wave is about as good as it gets in this stretch. It’s a beach and reef setup, so it breaks pretty consistently, but it’s a beginner-level wave, and the crowd factor says "sometimes" so you might have a few others with the same idea.
After that, it fades again. The following Saturday, the 25th, shows a slightly bigger swell—5ft from the west with 9-second period and wave energy up at 290—but the wind is onshore and moderate, so it won’t be clean. That’s more for the experts if they’re desperate, but not a standout by any means.
So, here’s the call: if you’ve got patience, the 22nd of July is your best bet. Glassy conditions on a small, clean wave. Everything else is a write-off. The forecast can always change, but right now it’s a long wait for a small reward.
Rusty.
