Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coombesgate Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the 16-day window for Coombesgate Beach is looking like a tough stretch. We’ve got a long, quiet gap before anything even sniffs rideable, and then when it does finally arrive, the conditions are going to be a mess.
From now through most of the first week, it’s flat. The swell is barely a ripple, with heights stuck at 0.3ft to 1.0ft and combined swell energy bouncing between 2 and 28 (weak). You’ll see some glassy mornings on the 17th and 18th, but there’s simply no water moving to do anything with it. It’s a total write-off for a paddle.
We then drift through a long period of nothing. Late July, from the 20th to the 25th, it’s the same story – knee-high slop at best, with energy levels barely cracking double digits. A few cleaner moments with cross-off winds, but the swell is too small to even push a foamie. This is a real desert.
Then, around the 26th, we start to see a pulse. The 26th afternoon brings a tiny lift to 3ft from the WSW, with a short period of 6 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 77 (still weak), but the wind is a fresh cross-onshore, making it lumpy and messy. Not worth a wetsuit.
The real change comes on the 27th and 28th. The swell ramps up, hitting 6ft to 7ft from the W with a period of 8 seconds on the 27th. The combined energy jumps into the moderate range (403 to 545). But here’s the kicker – it’s accompanied by strong cross-onshore winds from the SW at 25 mph, creating strong cross-onshore and messy surf. By the 28th, we’ve got 6ft of swell at 10 seconds, with a hefty 674 combined energy, but the wind is still onshore from the W at 16 mph. The water’s going to be a washing machine.
This is a classic case of too much, too messy. For a beach and reef setup like Coombesgate, this is more suited for a kite surfer than a traditional surfer. The waves will be big, but the quality will be poor. If you’re an expert, you might find something on the 28th, but it’s going to be a battle. Honestly, the best advice is to wait for the next forecast cycle. This one is a dud.
Rusty.
