The Lowdown
Right then, let's get into it. Ol' Rusty here, and I've been staring at the charts for Aracaju. Gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch of forecast for us right now. The whole sixteen-day window is a bit of a write-off for any proper surfing, I'm afraid. There's simply nothing that comes together cleanly.
For the entire period, we're looking at a run of days where the wind is just never your mate. The swell is mostly coming in from the southeast, but it's almost always accompanied by an onshore or cross-onshore breeze. This combo just churns up the ocean, leaving us with poor surf conditions day after day. On the 18th of August, for example, it starts with rain showers and a moderate breeze from the southeast making things a mess, and that kind of vibe just sticks around.
We do see a bit of a pulse around the 26th of August, where a longer period southerly swell rolls in. The combined swell energy jumps right up – we’re talking 1058 (strong energy) on the Wednesday arvo. But that's the cruel joke of it. It's still a short, choppy, onshore scenario, and that kind of power just gets wasted on messy, blown-out faces. It's more of a kite-surfing setup than anything we'd want to paddle into.
The 27th of August has some similar energy, but again, the onshore wind keeps it all lumpy and unrideable. And as we push into the second week, the swell drops right off, the period gets shorter, and the wind stays rubbish. The 29th has a tiny spike with a 4ft easterly but it's a weak 6-second period – useless. The last few days of the forecast just look like small, choppy leftovers.
So, no standout days, no hidden gems. It’s one of those blank runs that just happens. The only good news is that it can't stay this way forever. Forecasts can and do change, and the ocean has a way of surprising us.
For now though, best leave the boards in the bag and find something else to do.
Rusty.
