The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for Aracaju over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, it's a tough stretch. The data shows a long run of poor surf conditions, with cross-onshore winds and lumpy, choppy surf making it hard to find anything clean. The combined wave energy is moderate at best, staying in the 100-300 range for most of the first week, and the swell direction is from the SSE to SE, which is cross-on for the break. For the first few days, Wednesday the 15th through Sunday the 19th, there's honestly nothing to get excited about. The wind is up, the surf is messy, and the scores are all zero. It's a real blank run.
The water temperature is 80°F, which is about average for the time of year, so no need to worry about a wetsuit.
Things look a little more promising later in the second week. Starting around Monday the 27th, the wind starts to drop and swing more onshore, which is a good sign. By Wednesday the 29th, we see a clean shift. The wind is offshore from the SE, the swell picks up to 5ft from the SSE, with a period of 8 seconds and a moderate combined energy of 549. The forecast says "poor surf conditions" but the morning winds are clean and offshore. This could be a rare window of clean, rideable waves for the more experienced crew. The swell is moderate, so it's not for beginners, but it's a standout in an otherwise bleak outlook.
After that, the last few days of the month show a mix of onshore and offshore winds, with smaller swell around 3ft to 5ft. The energy stays low, and the conditions are still not great. There's no real standout session to recommend, but Wednesday the 29th morning is the only time I'd even consider paddling out.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a write-off. The second week offers a brief glimmer on Wednesday the 29th with clean-ish offshore winds and a moderate swell, but it's a short window and not for the faint-hearted. Otherwise, it's a long wait for decent surf.
Rusty.
