Alright folks, Rusty here.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window for Aracaju is a pretty flat run. The first real chance of a wave doesn't show up until Friday the 3rd, and even then it’s a bit of a false hope. Honestly, there are no standout days here. The finder is coming up empty-handed, so we’re looking at a long patch of poor surf conditions for the area.
The water is sitting at 80° – about average for this time of year, so the only thing you’ll be feeling is the warm air, not much push in the water.
Let’s run through the numbers. Friday morning the 3rd has the most energy in the whole 16 days with a combined swell energy of (448), with a 5ft swell coming from the ESE at a 9 second period. But the wind is blowing straight onshore from the E at 12 mph, ruining any chance of a clean wave. It drops off from there.
Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th see smaller 4ft to 5ft swell, but it’s still messy with cross-onshore or onshore winds, keeping the “poor surf conditions” tag going. The period stays short, around 8-9 seconds, so no real power behind it.
From Monday the 6th onward, we’re in the doldrums. Swell heights drop below 3ft consistently, with the combined energy mostly in the double digits, under (200) – that’s weak, friends. There’s a little blip around Wednesday the 8th where a long-period 17 second swell shows up, but it’s only 1ft from the SSE, so that’s more of a ripple than a wave. The wind stays a problem for the most part – onshore or cross-onshore – keeping everything chopped up.
The middle of the second week, around Tuesday the 14th, tries to kick up a small 4ft ENE windswell, but the period is a weak 7 seconds and it’s cross-onshore. No good. The last slight pulse comes Thursday the 16th with 3ft SSE swell and a combined energy of (423), but it’s still hammered by an onshore breeze at 16 mph.
It’s just one of those stretches, folks. There’s nothing here worth paddling out for. A blank run like this isn't totally unusual for the area, and forecasts can always change. But for now, save your wax.
Rusty.
