The Lowdown
G'day, it's Rusty here. Well, I've taken a good hard look at what's on the table for our stretch of coast, and I gotta be straight with you—it's a tough one. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a write-off, to be honest. There's not a single standout session in the lot, and every single time slot is flagged as "poor surf conditions." That's a long, dry spell, and it starts right now and runs all the way through to the 4th of September.
The water temp at Aracaju is sitting at 80°, which is a good degree warmer than the long-term average for this time of year, so that's a nice little bonus for a paddle, but it's not going to help the waves.
We're looking at a real mix of conditions, but none of them come together. Early on, from the 20th through the 24th, we've got tiny swell, mostly under 3ft, with a short, choppy period of 7 to 8 seconds. The wind is onshore or cross-onshore pretty much the whole time, with a moderate breeze at 12 to 13 mph, keeping things messy. The combined swell energy is weak, barely cracking 100 (351 on Thursday morning, dropping to 47 by Monday morning), so there's just nothing in the water.
There's a glimmer of something a bit different around the 26th and 27th of August, where the swell direction swings south and the period jumps up to 14–18 seconds—that's a proper groundswell. The energy ramps up to moderate levels, hitting 437 and 502. But, and it's a big but, the wind is still onshore or cross-onshore at 13 mph, and the wave comment is still "poor surf conditions." The swell height is only 2ft to 3ft, so it's just not enough to make anything of that long period.
Then, from the 30th of August through to the 4th of September, we're back to that short-period, cross-onshore chop. Swell bumps up a bit to 5ft and 6ft on the 2nd and 3rd, with energy jumping to 489, but it's all wind-affected and sloppy. The wind is a fresh breeze at 19 mph on the 1st, making it lumpy.
Honestly, for a beginner-friendly spot like Aracaju, and with the difficulty being beginner, this swell is too weak and the conditions are too poor for any kind of fun surf. The setup is more interesting for a kite session if you're into that, because the onshore winds and small, choppy waves are not for a paddle board.
So, I'd say save the petrol and the wax. There's nothing worth chasing here. The forecasts can always change, but right now, this is a blank run. Rusty.
