The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get straight into it. Look, I've been staring at the charts for Aracaju, and I gotta be honest with you – it's a tough stretch coming up. The next 16 days are looking pretty grim for a proper paddle. We've got a long run ahead with very little to get excited about.
The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 80°F. That's a small comfort, 'cause that's about all the good news there is.
We start off Wednesday the 19th and it’s just messy. Swell from the southeast around 4ft, but it's that short period windswell of 8 seconds and the cross-onshore breeze chopping it all up. The wave energy is moderate at best (318) but the conditions are just poor. This theme carries right through the first week. Thursday the 20th, Friday the 21st, Saturday the 22nd... it's all much the same. Onshore winds, short period swell, and the reports are all saying poor surf. The best we see is a few spots with 5ft swell on Thursday morning, but with onshore winds, it's just a bumpy mess. The energy stays mostly weak to moderate, with readings hopping between 100 and 400.
There is a notable shift on Wednesday the 26th. We get a jump in period to 14 seconds from the south, a real groundswell, but the wave height is tiny at 2ft. The combined energy is moderate (337), but with zero size, it's not going to break with any punch. That south swell sticks around for a few days, but it's the same story – small and unrideable in these conditions.
We hit a real low point around the end of the month. Monday the 31st has energy values dropping to 87 and 90, and the swell is barely 3ft of short period junk. That's about as weak as it gets.
Even as we roll into September, the first few days of the month are the same song and dance. A bit of cross-onshore wind, short period swell, and the energy levels just sitting in the weak zone around 111 to 118. By Thursday, September 3rd, the wind picks up to a fresh 22 mph breeze. At a beach break like this, with all that wind and small, short-period swell, it’s looking way more interesting for the kite surfers than anyone on a paddle board.
Honestly, looking at the whole 16-day run, there's not a single standout session. Not one day where the wind, swell, and tide all line up. It’s a real flat and choppy spell for Aracaju. Just one of those periods where you leave the boards in the bag and wait for the next system to roll through. Forecasts can always change, but right now? It's a big fat zero.
Rusty.
