Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a good look at what’s on the table for Aracaju over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a lean stretch. There’s a big dry patch right at the start, and we’re waiting a few days before we see anything worthwhile.
Right now and through the first few days, the surf is basically a no-show. Swell is tiny, wind is messy, and the conditions are just not there. You’re looking at a gap from Monday afternoon all the way until we hit Wednesday morning on the 8th of July.
That Wednesday morning is where things finally perk up. We’ve got a little 2ft swell rolling in from the south with a nice long 12 second period. The wind is glassy, dead calm, so the ocean will be clean as a whistle. The combined wave energy is moderate, sitting at 216. This is a beginner-friendly wave given the size, and the water temp is 80°, which is dead average for this time of year – nothing weird there. The wind stays light and glassy in that morning window, so if you’ve got a soft top or a foamie, this is your moment. The break is fairly consistent, so you won’t be waiting around forever between sets. Just know that crowds are possible here sometimes, so get out early if you want a peak to yourself.
After that Wednesday morning high point, things go downhill quickly. By the afternoon the wind swings onshore and chops things up. From Thursday the 9th onward, it’s a long grind of poor surf. The swell does pick up – we see it hit around 4ft to 5ft with moderate to strong energy readings in the 300s and 500s, especially on Saturday the 11th. But the wind is either cross-on or straight onshore, and the period drops off, so it’s just lumpy, uninviting conditions. Even when we get a 5ft swell on Thursday the 16th with a 370 energy reading, it’s onshore wind and poor quality. Not worth paddling out.
Further out in the second week, the story doesn’t improve. Swell sticks around in the 3ft to 4ft range, but it’s all short-period junk (7 to 9 seconds) with onshore winds. The energy numbers drop into the low 100s and 200s by the 20th and 21st. It’s a write-off for paddle surfing. Honestly, with the onshore wind and that kind of choppy texture, the setup might be more interesting for kite surfing than a traditional paddle session.
So, the standout, and really the only one worth marking on your calendar, is Wednesday morning, July 8th at Aracaju. Glassy conditions, a clean 2ft south swell, and moderate energy. That’s your window. Everything else? Leave it.
Rusty.
